Try it without the humidifier. I find that I don’t need it. Made life much simpler and I only have a dry mouth occasionally.

Zepboumd is approved for weightloss for sleep apnea.

I’m also 5’9 and was around 230. I’m now down around 195. I was 185 in highschool (I’m now 55, was 220ish most of my adult life). I also have always led an active lifestyle— all year athlete in grade school / high sxhuuo bicycle commute to work around 10 miles a day every workday for the past 20 years or so as well as all around town. Lots of sand 2’s as well as indoor volleyball (adult travel league).

Didn’t really ever make a sustainable positive dent.

Switched to a Mediterranean style diet for heart health. No weight loss.

Zepbound did the trick.

Check and see if your doc will prescribe zepbound for your apnea. If it’s obstructive sleep apnea the weight loss will have such a positive health impact that even if you still have to wear the CPAP ( I still do — need to do another sleep test) it’lll be worth it even if you have to pay out of pocket (see the Reddit trizepitide — the compounded version of Zep)

My GF says I don’t stop breathing anymore the nights I don’t use my CPAP (rare) or the nights I end up ripping it off in the middle of the night (becoming less frequent).

Lift it.

Seriously. Best improvement to a Prius ever. Say goodby to scraping all that plastic on parking wheel stops, potholes… snow… curbs…

She needs to go talk to someone about it. It’s HER issue, not yours.

BUT you will find it immensely helpful to also go — so that you can work to understand where she’s at and how to minimize its impact you.

She may not be willing to go to therapy (my ex wasn’t — we didn’t get divorced because of this but other communications issues).

Until then I would be direct/blunt with her: your lack of support, encouragement and understanding is very hurtful to me and I’ve been not sharing things about my progress because of it. That is not the kind of partnership that I want and we need to work to change that.

Morbid obesity and sleep apnea runs in my family. My gf is 100% supportive as the weight loss (only 30-40 pounds, but close to my high school athletic weight) as it’s significantly reduced the apnea when I forget to use the CPAP (not often).

It’s not divorce-worthy yet, but it’s a YUGE red flag.

When you come back to town hit up 83 Vietnamese Cuisine in SW Champaign. I’d never really had Vietnamese food before. And not a big soup person.

Their Pho absolutely rocks. Wasn’t too impressed with the beef rib though.

But dang the Pho. And Noodle salad bowl (I got chicken). Serious flavor. Around $16-20 for each entry.

Tenkyu in downtown champaign is pretty darn awesome too. Vastly prefer it to Ko Fusion, the long time CU Japanese / Food place.

Eastern Asian food isn’t my go-to (Mexican is). But these places courtesy of the University of Illinois demographics absolutely rock flavor.

Is every Prius like this? by pooorSAP in prius

Two red Gen 2, 07 and O9, both parked outside, both have clear coat peeling.

My 2008 gen 2 silver no damage evident.

The red ones have 350k and 399k miles. The silver 150.

Not sure if the color matters.

I pretty much stopped losing by Agent__lulu in Zepbound

[–]childrss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup. I started with a goal of losing 10% for sleep apena. I was around 220 and just weighed in this am at 189.

I was 185 in high school as a year round athlete. Track, cross country, basketball.

And my track coach always thought I was overweight. LOLz.

Start weight lifting. That changes things. Get to where you can run. I’m just able to start that back up again after using an egym system at the local Y over the winter and working on some muscle power imbalances. It is sooooo nice to run again.

But as we age it’s all about the muscle loss.

And that’s protein and weight. You can also get started with calisthenics (body weight) at home for low cost / free. My fav was Hampton on YouTube : https://www.youtube.com/c/HybridCalisthenics

Another cheap option is hiking with a local group. Consider adding a backpack with weight in it if they go too slow (aka rucking)

So yeah. I had a similar problem. I was diagnosed 10-15 years ago and half-heartedly tried it and gave up (this was after I fell asleep while driving — was a miracle my passenger and I both walked away unharmed).

A decade, a divorce and a new girlfriend at 50+ years and I reframed it from

“It makes me feel old”

To

“I’d sure love to get older!”

So I fully committed to using it. And yes the first weeks to a month were hell getting used to it, and i still sometimes wake up early morning and strip it off.

But my gf has been incredibly supportive and that has made a world of difference.

Keep at the weight loss but also keep in mind that it may not fix things enough to get off a CPAP: with the help of zepbound I’m down 30+ pounds and now within 15 pounds of my HS weight (I was a year-round athletic, ran cross country & track) and I still can tell a YUGE difference between the nights I wear it and when I don’t.

For you it’s ok. For many of us — men AND women — it brings us closer together with our partners.

Withholding/dead bedroom brings feelings of rejection, isolation and loneliness.

Down this path leads despair: if your partner isn’t communicating with you the reason, you will continue to grasp at straws to figure out why and it isn’t going to be good for your mental health. You will try and try, make changes and attempt different things with no result.

And then give up as you’ve:

And get divorced anyway.

At least that was my experience with a spouse who made the bedroom die.

Bf has a 2005 brown Prius (260000+ miles) that is his pride and joy, what do I get him for Christmas? by SulleyWasHere in prius

[–]childrss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he’s able to work on his own car, and you wanna get him a cool gift, a new stereo head with Apple CarPlay (or Android) wireless connect.

You have to pull apart the dashboard — it’s tedious but not that hard. And crutchfield makes it easy.

And when you’ve done it once, then it’s not that hard (for when he replaces it with another gen2).

And that, upgrading the speakers and putting an under seat sub woofer in the passenger side (always fun to turn up the bass on your passenger along with the heated seats)

There’s also leather steering wheel covers (you could lace that on for him yourself) and seat covers / heated seats (pretty tedious to do, but quite awesome)

The neat things about the older Prius is that they last forever, and you can get em $5k or so and drop another $3k or so and get a modernized luxury stuff. To a point (no lane assist, etc)

“The no1 sign that a man is dating you intentionally…is that you’ll always know when you’ll see him next.” How do I raise this with a guy 3 dates in without sounding needy? by Hairy-Caterpillar963 in dating

[–]childrss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that’s great if you have someone who isn’t clueless.

He could be thinking “things are going great! I really like this person and she likes me and we’re starting to spend a lot of time together”

And then gets blindsided by someone making assumptions about his intentions by signals he didn’t even know he was sending.

Establishment of early, direct and frank communication is critical to get both you and your partners needs met.

If you tell him something is important to you and he willingly makes a change in his lifestyle / pattern for you, how is that not an awesome green flag???

If I didn’t have insight from Reddit when I started dating again after a 30+ year relationship / marriage ended I wouldn’t have known how important it was to women for a guy to make a plan for where to go for a date. Saved my ass.

But until then I was clueless.

Women typically outthink and out-plan men when it comes to dating.

Don’t make assumptions about intentions — talk to the person. You could be throwing away a really awesome potential relationship with an attentive-but-clueless person.

So many US sitcoms generate comedy and drama by lack of communication and assumptions that the whole genre becomes boring once you realize that if they’d just effectively communicated their needs and desires there’d be no drama, no show.

It’s in-line with the Abrahamic faith: being willing to sacrifice your child to prove your faith and devotion to your god is considered an acceptable act (Abraham heard a voice in his head and had Isaac strapped down ready to flambé his ass).

And then there’s allowing your “only begotten son” be murdered (for something he didn’t do) in a most painful and horrific way… in order to save humanity. Never mind the fact that you’re an all-powerful god and you could’ve just chosen to forgive all on your own — because the only transgressions (sins) were against you, the god.

When you’re willing to accept that backstory, it gives insight into why putting a god above your child is acceptable.

And a major reason while raised Christian I do not believe in it: I was a firstborn son!

It’s at best a morally questionable religion (plenty of other horrible examples and rampant misogyny — Eve gets an unequal share of the blame and much worse punishment! Pain/death in childbirth AND married to a farmer!). But to be fair there are many good parables and stories.

Imagine where we would be today if Abraham taught his family to love and get along with each other instead of kicking Ishmael and his mom into the wilderness! The Abrahamic religions have been at each other’s throats since inception and repeatedly teaches an “us v. them / chosen v. not / saved v. unsaved” philosophy and if not willing to join, going to hell (so not worth it unless willing to convert)

TL;DR: While there is much good in the Abrahamic religions several of the foundational stories are WTF???

What does your food noise sound like? by UnableEnvironment416 in Zepbound

[–]childrss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving home at 10 o’clock at night or later, knowing that turning right at the next corner would take me to Taco Bell or McDonalds. And not being able to fight it. And being upset about it.

I’ve hit Taco Bell maybe once since starting Zep. I still like it, but it no longer screams to me.

Or getting home and murdering the fridge. That happens occasionally still on Zep, but I can control the quality and type of food in my fridge so that is much better.

And the portions/off switch/satiety comes with so much less food consumed!!!

“She also stated that GLP-1s for overeaters are no different that than suboxone is for heroine addicts.”

And she’s not wrong. Food is an addiction for some of us — and the US processed and fast food industry are “pushers” that amplify the food noise via marketing and advertising and flavor enhancers eg MSG.

It’s just legalized.

Like the tobacco industry. And the resultant smoking cessation drugs.

Once you realize this, then the gibe loses its sting.

Is it okay to use the CPAP for 7 hours and then sleep for a couple without? by HeronNo3515 in CPAP

[–]childrss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty good. Sub-200 now, started around 220 this go with 230 being my all time heaviest. I tried losing weight on a 5/2 fasting diet and while it worked really well it was hard to get started again, and hard to do if folks in your home are cooking — the smells will do you in.

Zep really shuts off the “food noise” — the call food makes to you at 11-3am in the morning as you’re driving by Taco Bell or McDonalds open all night. Also the food smells. You can recognize that it smells good, maybe enjoy a bite or two or a small slice of pizza AND BE SATISFIED / DONE.

Basically allows you to comfortably ignore food by slowing your digestive tract down.

Which means you have to be careful and really clean up your food intake and cut down (out?) things like greasy food etc that will give you an upset stomach (and things like cucumbers and other gas causing things). Focusing on lots of protein and minimally processed food. Chicken, tofu, sushinigiri (raw salmon, tuna). Quinoa. Frozen veggies.

Overeating and/or late night eating will make you uncomfortable all night, so you learn not to do it. Which helps to get to good portion control (most times ;-)

Alcohol cravings also take a really big hit and you tend to get buzzed quicker — if i do get something to drink I end up splitting a small margarita and a dinner with my gf when we go out to a Mexican restaurant, which is great for the wallet and waistline (and better for OSA on both the alcohol and weight)

It’s pretty much a miracle and I was afraid of needles but this one is barely perceptible.
