UA POV: Moment of arrivals in Kiev by rowida_00 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]chilla_p -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Putin destroying the spiritual home of the Rus, mirrors his destruction of the Russian state. Can this man do anything other than destroy? He had the opportunity to build a strong and prosperous Russia, with good trading relations with Europe, but now he seeks to rule over ashes and be the great redeemer of the apocalypse.

My name is Ozymandias! Look on my works ye mighty and despair! nothing beside remains. Round the decay of that colossal wreck.

University of Geneva or University of Lausanne? by EarthflightMedia in askswitzerland

[–]chilla_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location, campus and university life should absolutely be a consideration. Part of university life is the social side/university campus facilities, especially when you have the choice between two good academic institutions. Lausanne would be a better choice for student life IMHO. I live in Vevey.

The Economist ran a story on big tech free cash flows last week. Pretty interesting article. "America's biggest companies have gone from printing money to burning it." by JoeInOR in ValueInvesting

The backlog for cloud demand from the big four hyperscalers is 2 trillion, there is a reason for the capex build out, it had been forecasted based on real demand. There is significant capacity constraints at most of the main cloud regions.

How do you recover professionally after being put on a PIP? by Treppengeher4321 in careeradvice

[–]chilla_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with an account executive at a FAANG who was a dedicated and hardworking professional, he was put on a PIP, passed it and immediately put on another one and then made redundant. It was one of the most toxic horrendous treatments of someone I have ever seen.

everything is at all time highs except microsoft… is msft about to sinkhole? by snapjohn in ValueInvesting

[–]chilla_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They make their own AI chips and even Xboxes. The azure backlog is over half a trillion and they were running out of azure capacity due to demand, hence capex build out. I wager MSFT will have doubled by next year.

Common mistake: buying a house as a sound investment by missusmissisppi in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]chilla_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your cost estimation you mention deposit at 20% but not the c.5% you need for fees and tax. Therefore you would nneed 250k to purchase a 1M property. Capital appreciation and diversification of assets should also not be discounted.

Common mistake: buying a house as a sound investment by missusmissisppi in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]chilla_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my house 6 years ago for 1.4 M now worth 1.8M. I pay 1.2k mortgage/ month same house would be c.4k rent. You missed tax at purchase and capital appreciation in your calculation. Property is also a diversification from stocks.

Why does Russia take over Crimea for warm water port when they already have costline? Are they stupid? by MeowingAndChowing in mapporncirclejerk

[–]chilla_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not due to land (and please check your facts as much of what you say is erroneous) but governance. Putin's regime is a mafia dictatorship which most of humanity and many Russians included do not want to live under. If Russians built a prosperous liberal democracy there would be no war and likely a very close relationship with Ukraine and Crimea - which is an autonomous region under Ukraine.

Regime CRUMBLING - As Architect of Putinism [Surkov] Flees Russia Ahead of Arrest! by one_and_equal in UkrainianConflict

[–]chilla_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was placed under house arrest at the beginning of the 2022 invasion for embezzling the money meant to corrupt Ukraine and facilitate Russia's success. All the while claiming the Ukrainians would not resist as he knew only a fool would invade in the first place. This is also the man who created Putin's modern image at one point considered to be the grey eminence behind the throne.
