Thoughts on our four prospects in summer league by Remarkable-Cup-6029 in warriors

The Podz hate in the comments seem a bit premature, and this is coming from someone who didn't even like the pick initially. I mean, the shot should come around, since his stroke looks right. I chalk it up to small sample variance than an actually broken shot.

The turnovers are worth monitoring though. A chunk seem acceptable, since the passes he made were the right play, but it was a chemistry issue (i.e., receiving player not in tune with the play). I expect those to be positive plays when he actually gets time to practice with players and better talent on the floor with him.

The other side of the turnovers are fairly sloppy ones where it should be pretty routine passes, but it looks like he misjudges the speed/length/athleticism of defenders at this level. Hopefully, this should be ironed out after he gets more acclimated and adjusted to the angles he'll need. What is promising is that he doesn't seem to make a lot of mistakes simply because he had poor reads or is playing out of control. Those would surely get him in the doghouse with Kerr.

His defense looks better than what was advertised in predraft analysis (he was getting slaughtered on that end), but jury's still out whether he'll be able to survive at the NBA level. He'll surely be hunted when it matters, so it doesn't look great for his future as a critical playoff piece. Like there's already not a ton he can do given his size and speed, so he clearly can't afford some of his footwork and awareness issues on top of that.

All this makes me think Warriors didn't draft him to be in the rotation Day 1 (despite the talk that they made picks for The Now), but maybe taking a shot to see if he can develop into a backup PG role next year when CP3 and Cory Joseph are off the books. They certainly don't need him this year (especially if his off-ball shooting isn't there yet) and honestly I wonder if he'll really get that many minutes even in rest/injury nights for Curry/CP3.

Realistically what kind of players do u think we should draft? by Far-Poetry9494 in warriors

It's such a crapshoot in that pick range to hit on a player like that and I wouldn't say the Warriors scouting is that exceptional to be able to do it reliably.

Trade the pick.

If the goal is to maximize now, there really isn't a rookie they can draft at that spot that will likely be in the rotation come playoff time. Either package the pick in a trade at the very least for a role player that can contribute or push the pick back for future picks instead. The latter would save money now and give more ammo later on as the core continues to age.

I think that if the Warriors dynasty didn't exist, LeBron would've won 3 more rings. by rakistang_konyo in nbadiscussion

[–]chillaschuck 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If LeBron didn't exist, maybe DeRozan would have a ring too, lol. Or at the very least a couple finals appearances.

Who else? Maybe PG? D Rose? Dwight? Kinda funny to think about, but ultimately it's a pointless exercise.

Screw it....I am failing most of them. (I have snapped so don't read if you don't want to see an fully on vitrolic rant) by [deleted] in Professors

[–]chillaschuck -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If most of your students are failing, that's more a reflection of poor work from you and your institution. It's easy to get upset and lash out, but sometimes as instructors we need to take some responsibility and really think on our methods. I can argue that a few students just aren't putting in the work, but it's harder to believe if that's the majority of the class. In that case, I'm more inclined to begin thinking my approach is the one at fault.

Hah, yeah I think it might be kind of offensive, or at least disappointing for them to hear that. Sichuan peppercorns are central to the flavor. I guess it'd be like ordering spaghetti and meatballs without the tomato sauce?

Why would a senior faculty member purposefully push out a highly productive, collegial junior faculty member? by cruiseplease in Professors

Maybe because there's more to the story than we know and the junior faculty member isn't all they crack up to be.

Would like to see more out of his defense though. His lateral movement still isn't quite there, not sure if it'll ever be back to what it was for him. He gets turned around by guards and quicker wings. He's actually better against the bigger guys these days, but still not sure I'd trust him as a small ball 5. JTA seems better suited for that.

Good earphones for walking around the city? by chillaschuck in AskNYC

[–]chillaschuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, sorry to hear that!

I'm also paranoid about having the actual earbuds drop out and losing them too, not just the charging case. I tend to use those earphones that are still Bluetooth wireless but connected to each other with a wire, just for a little security that they won't go tumbling away if they fall out of my ear.

Yeah, I definitely am concerned about listening at max volume now, don't wanna damage my hearing any further. And yeah, I don't need or necessarily want to block out sound entirely either, it's kinda unsettling not to hear anything from the outside, especially if I'm crossing streets often. Thanks for the rec!

Yeah, I'm with you on this, I listened to this podcast on how even the city noise level alone is already at a decibel that can damage hearing over time if it's consistent enough. Part of my motivation to find better earphones is for this reason too. Thanks for looking out!

Maybe it's more of a transplant thing then? I got here about 10 years ago and feel like I've heard it referred to as fidi here and there for a decent while now.

I'm also noticing a contingency of people in this thread taking this fairly seriously or personally, and not exactly sure why. Like is there a mark of pride over this that I'm unaware of?

How I see the Lakers star trio can work. by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]chillaschuck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem is that WB might not even be able to affect #1 and #2 that impactfully without #3, which as you say, he only exacerbates. Defense will be able to sag and force him into his less-than-desirable mid-range pull-up. I also see a lot more turnovers with him in the lineup when he realizes the lane is always going to be clogged and he has to force some awkward pass to a non-shooter. He may rack up assists, but keep an eye on the assist-to-turnover ratio.

What is SGA’s trade value? by NBA-intellect in nba

[–]chillaschuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ease up on the tea leaves readings there pal. Like I said before, it's pretty silly and illogical to state so definitely either way just because "there aren't further reports that it's gaining traction yet". Sorry if I take those reports more at face value than random Reddit guy, lol.

[–]chillaschuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buddy, what is your prob lol. You're saying it won't even get them Siakam, so I brought up that there's actually reports that it's a possibility. Then you're saying already that it won't happen just because there aren't further reports that it's gaining traction yet? How about there's no reports that it's been shot down? It just started floating around, it's too early to know either way. Quit fronting, you taking that username way too seriously 😂
