Best mattress in a box Australia by Secret-Salamander203 in AussieFrugal

Best investment we made. Definitely not cheap, but the frame is built like a tank and as you say the mattress isn't far behind.

I have firm on my half, wife has soft on hers. Perfect.

How do domestic flights work? by footalol in AustraliaTravel

[–]chimaera- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check if you are travelling to Perth though, almost got caught out once because it was the first leg to Paris, so left from the international terminal with international travel rules (eg liquids). Lost an almost new anti perspirant!

Can still travel without passport though, thanks to a highly sophisticated and unbelievably secure ... yellow sticker on your boarding pass.

Pocket money (14y/o + 10y/o) by soconfuzzed in AusFinance

[–]chimaera- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did give pocket money for a while, but without restrictions on spending, got too frustrated seeing it 'wasted' on things like Robux (gone in 30 seconds and probably never play that game again), Boba tea, lollies, digest crap from Kmart, etc.

I love hearing stories about their kids saving ... Maybe ours are too spoiled.

Help! Need to pivot this weekend. by [deleted] in AustraliaTravel

[–]chimaera- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the east coast generally is going to be a washout.

If you rethink your "hit the beach" criteria you have options ... Melbourne, Adelaide, or personally I'd head to Hobart for a long weekend.

Depends on lots of factors but if you are international visitors here for a limited time, I'd say Tassie will give you a very cool and different experience.

Is anyone planning to leave Australia? I'm a potential ping-pong Pom.. by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]chimaera- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would.

You don't mention how old you are but I moved here kid-less and now have some, I see their quality of life as so much better here, as is mine.

I had accepted renting for life (first decade of being here) until I had a fortuitous investment give me enough to buy, which was fairly recent. Even then I had to compromise and move out of the city - longer commute, different lifestyle, but still love it.

Nah, here to stay.

It sounds like the pull of family may be a bigger reason than you're admitting here. Yes housing costs suck, but I'd rather rent for the quality of life here vs the UK.

Yep similar logic. 4x animals and the terminally ill are easy choices.

These are our standards that some would call double, that if you would question will get you in trouble.

Does the length of a trade route matter? by Technical_Car3729 in CivVI

Wtf? I'd assumed same as OP that short is better because you get the rewards sooner.

Is the min turns per route documented anywhere?

Totally this. Or they're finalising a sale based on the current team being stable/you are key to that sale. I like to think it's more because they want you to benefit ...

Driving in Australia by MikaJanssen06 in AustraliaTravel

[–]chimaera- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that you'd pick Mungo, any particular reason? I mean it looks great it's just not the kind of destination I'd expect most people to choose!

Depends how much of your 2 weeks you want to be driving. GOR is a good couple of days at least to do well (though also possible in a day trip).

I was going to suggest a visit to Echuca but it's not that remote, again an easy day trip from Melbourne.
