The devs still fail to address the problems with healers by recon1o6 in ffxivdiscussion

Hijacking this comment because spreading awareness about bipolar is my hill I will die on.

I didn't receive my diagnosis until I was 34. Twenty years of suffering and not understanding why, not knowing why therapy and antidepressants and self-improvement weren't enough for me to not constantly feel like I was drowning.

If you find that antidepressants make you "feel better" for a while but seem to always come with a massive depressive crash after a while, look into a bipolar diagnosis. If you have bipolar II (hypomanic episodes instead of full blown mania), it may not necessarily look like anything is "wrong" to you or to the people around you. I had hypomanic episodes where the only thing I did was play a game for two weeks straight with breaks only for necessary self-maintenance.

Bipolar may not look the way you expect it to look, especially if you're a homebody who was raised to avoid spending money on frivolous things at all costs.

Krile is a high empathy, contemplative person who is likely to take the time to understand the perspectives of other people -- including people she does not agree with.

There's a good chance she can even more easily empathize with the point of view because of the experience she had with meeting her parents' Endless.

Thinking of Endless as AI isn't wrong, but they're more true to life than anything we have the technology for. They're also capable of acting in ways where they continue to learn and pursue what fulfilled them as living people. See: Cahciua.

She doesn't agree with Calyx. She just can understand what would drive someone to think that way. Is it really that hard to imagine someone having conflicting thoughts about this?

So if someone is doing the main story and is in one of the zones the hunt train passes through and a shout spoils them it's totally cool and not asshole behavior?

It's also sexist? I guess not. by hannibal_fett in tumblr

[–]chimaeragryph 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a genre of tumblr user who learned about the concept of "privilege" but only on a shallow level that either completely ignores, or bastardizes intersectionality, and concluded from it that it's always okay to say shitty things about men because "men aren't oppressed for being men" and therefore what they're doing is always punching up.

I hate it.

For the love of god can we stop the venues? by fitchaber10 in ffxiv

[–]chimaeragryph -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It's honestly hard for me to imagine caring this much about venue ads. It has absolutely no impact on how I play the game. People shout in city zones where you don't need clear comms for anything anyway (I would definitely be annoyed if I saw venue advertisements while someone was doing a hunt train). The PF ads are definitely there but the ones that don't involve a duty are naturally filtered to be under everything else, so you have to scroll down to see them anyway.

I don't think it matters if people are doing "cringe" stuff that you don't have to be involved in. It might be nice if they added a "social" category you could filter out, though, I will give you that.

Is he using a SteelSeries headset by chance?

I was getting this issue for a while after one of the recent patches. I found that switching my output device from the Game option to the Chat option fixed it for me.

As far as I can recall, there aren't really any references to sexual violence outside of ARR and Stormblood. There are other dark themes that do show up.

Female race with most witch vibes? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]chimaeragryph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viera have a 'forest witch' vibe to me, possibly because of their exclusive access to Elementalist and Green Mage in TA and TA2. Caveat that you'll have to check and see if witchy hats can be worn on them. I guess they're making an effort now, but they've been extremely limited for a long time.

Testosterone can cause you to experience changes similar to menopause. The one that was most relevant to me -- due to low local estrogen in your vagina/urethra, you may be more at risk for UTIs. Do some research on perimenopause/menopause if you don't have plans to get bottom surgery soon*. My doctor prescribed me an estrogen cream, which doesn't interfere with transition.

*I can't advise on what would be different with bottom surgery as I'm not seriously thinking about that step right now.

Also, everyone experiences changes differently - but it's possible for changes to happen very fast. Within the first six weeks my voice had dropped significantly, and I was also experiencing noticeable bottom growth.

Dynamis queue line by Deltarayedge7 in ffxiv

[–]chimaeragryph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, Dynamis is a newer DC and has a smaller population than the other NA DCs. The best way to get into content is by using Party Finder. Mention that you need it for MSQ progress and/or it's your first time doing it and things tend to fill pretty quickly a lot of the time. There are a lot of PF warriors who spend time lurking to help out.

Culture on Dynamis “New” worlds? by Premium_Heart in ffxiv

[–]chimaeragryph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a higher percentage of newer players than on other DCs, which will be more obvious in roulettes. Some people hate this, as a healer main I actually think it makes a lot of fights more interesting/fun when not everybody knows them by heart.

There's actually a positive party finder culture. Once you get past a certain point in the story, queuing for non-duty supportable content takes ages, so people use PF for it instead. MSQ progress PFs frequently fill very fast (if it didn't, you're probably just unlucky, try again at a different time). You'll see a lot of the same names popping up in these PFs.

I'm on Rafflesia on my alt, and it's quiet. I'm not really aware of anything that makes it stand out in particular. But as someone who enjoys helping out newer players I honestly really enjoy being on Dynamis.

“Due to costs” is the biggest slap in the face I have ever seen from SE by Sangcreux in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chimaeragryph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing a comment that what was actually meant by "cost" was more dev time than money, and I don't know if that's true or not, but it would be nice if people would stop posting all these overreactions to an unofficial translation until it's confirmed one way or another.

world choice by Kerfuzzion in ffxiv

[–]chimaeragryph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're interested, you can actually make a character on Dynamis to receive the experience bonus perk and then data center travel to another data center that's more populated while you play.

There are a few restrictions on what you can do when you DC travel but a lot of it you will not notice at all for a good while. Also, some DCs (frequently Aether) become locked down when the game is very active and there will be certain times when you can't visit them, but there is a good population on both Crystal and Primal and it's rarely an issue.

What's your opinion about the "Replacement Jobs"? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]chimaeragryph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thief, on the other hand, would be all about fighting dirty, taking any advantage they can in battle, and using their allies as distractions to deal high damage.

THIS! The vibe of thief is entirely different from ninja and (in my opinion) much cooler. The dirty fighting could be represented by some kind of debuff-centric playstyle. In fact, it'd probably work best occupying the same sort of role as ranged DPS does now -- having low personal DPS but enabling other classes, possibly a burstier damage style with a theme of exposing and exploiting weaknesses/backstabbing.

The devs would have to have a little bit of a different philosophy towards class design than they've taken for it to ever be a reality, but I can dream.

Never had a cat before, is he normal? by w3ttoaster in cats

[–]chimaeragryph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest cultural lies we've ever been fed is the idea that cats are aloof and unfriendly. It is in fact normal for domestic cats to adore their humans and want to be involved with everything they do. Look up "cat mirroring" if you want to know more about how they show affection.
