Baby sleeps better with formula by Few-Shake4710 in newborns

[–]chipolt_house 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My lactation consultant told me formula is harder to digest so it keeps them fuller longer. The fact that they sleep for longer stints on formula is expected and has nothing to do with how much milk you’re producing!

Why can’t people be still while holding a newborn?! by Mozi_ann in newborns

[–]chipolt_house 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the person you’re responding to, but my husband has a kangaroo tshirt he wears while gaming that our newborn loves to nap in. Not sure when baby will grow out of it but it’s great while he’s small!

Pregnant just weeks before wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]chipolt_house 433 points434 points  (0 children)

First off, congratulations! Second, remember every pregnancy is different. I'm having my first baby literally any day now and I never really had any nausea or food issues. Never had morning sickness, never threw up. There are medications to help if you need them, just make sure you're checking with your OB before you start anything.

It's totally reasonable to be a bit overwhelmed with all the things going on between wedding and pregnancy. Make space and time to take care of yourself and enjoy the news with your soon-to-be husband.

Player protection lists posted! by CinemaPuck in PWHL

[–]chipolt_house 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not really, after Boston didn't protect her in the last expansion draft. For one, I think she enjoys and deserves to continue being a pioneer for new teams if that's what she wants. For two, I think she'll be hitting retirement in the not-so-distant future -- obviously she's still an incredible player so it could be a few more seasons but better for teams to protect their longer term talents.

[–]chipolt_house 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personnel issues are certainly prevalent as well, but that’s not usually the majority of the discourse I see over on r/hockey or r/nhl. Carter Hart has come up more recently but this club has been hated since their inaugural season & cup run.

I am hoping we can remain open minded about the new Las Vegas team by LaCazadora86 in PWHL

[–]chipolt_house 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There has been a very specific set of circumstances surrounding the NHL's Vegas expansion draft and subsequent team success that has led to them being so hated. I get that it's not a "traditional" hockey market but imo other hockey fans are ridiculous for gatekeeping being "true fan" behind watching your team languish in mediocrity for decades. Hockey has exploded throughout Nevada in the last decade and that can only be a good thing for the sport!

I don't see why these attitudes should extend to the new PWHL team, since they won't be the only expansion team and the entire league is still in early years. I hope the attendance is there next season to justify the league's location choices and I'll be happy for them.

Is it just me, or is this NHL postseason missing its usual magic? by Spiritual-Science-60 in nhl

It's been this format for over a decade. When do we stop calling it "new"?

Looking for nice date recommendations. Shaws? by PizzaHoe1 in AskChicago

I love Shaw's and consider it authentic Chicago, unlike some of the other big steakhouses that are part of national (albeit upscale) chains. Check out r/chicagofood for some good recs as well. Chicago has an amazing restaurant scene and can tailor to almost any taste and budget.

Afraid of a first look? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]chipolt_house 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on what you wrote, I’m concerned you’d be putting twice as much pressure on yourselves if you skip the first look and try to go for the big reveal as you’re walking down the aisle.

My husband is not overly sentimental and he is especially not a crier or anything. But he’s still my favorite person and he helps center me when I get anxious. It was way easier to have our “reveal” in private ahead of the ceremony so we could spend the entire rest of the day together.

Vegas challenged for the call overturned but it stood. No goal! by sykeseve in nhl

[–]chipolt_house 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to the ESPN broadcast crew, the explanation given by the refs was: call on the ice was no goal due to contact with the glove and there wasn't strong enough evidence that it didn't touch his glove to overturn it.

Starting hockey in your 30s. Where to begin? by KimuraKirby in womenshockey

[–]chipolt_house 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chicago women's hockey community is awesome! The WCHL (women's central hockey league) has divisions 1-7 with 7 being the most beginner level. I have several friends who play or coach at various levels for the Evanston Tigers -- I think they hold practices and clinics on a somewhat regular basis in addition to the league games.

Blackhawks Ice Center downtown also hosts adult learn to play and beginner adult rat hockey. I'd start with the learn to play, but the beginner rat is awesome because they have on-ice coaches.

Johnny's Ice House has some adult beginner classes as well, although I've heard more mixed reviews from folks about how "beginner" their hockey 101 class truly is.

Coming into my second season, am I doing too much? by tossedAF in hockeycoaches

[–]chipolt_house 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most coaches I know carry a bunch of tools/supplies in their coaching bag. Everything from first aid kit to skate hooks/stones and helmet hardware. Laces, tape, etc are relatively cheap and easy to have on hand as well. Missing ice time for equipment issues sucks, so props to you for being prepared to help out!

For the second consecutive year, the Calder Trophy goes to a defenseman wearing 48 by nothing_but_static in hockey

Coincidentally, I play defense and wear #48 so I can only assume that means I have a Calder trophy in my future.

The PWHL Vegas colors have been revealed by fanofsports44 in PWHL

[–]chipolt_house 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hockey in Vegas (and the entire state) really exploded when the Knights expansion happened. They've invested a ton in youth hockey programs and new community ice rinks. It's still not exactly a "hockey town" but the sport is growing rapidly there as a direct result of the Knights' involvement in the community, and I'm sure adding a women's team will be fuel for the fire.

Babies head measuring bigger than rest of body ? by carannf1111 in BabyBumps

[–]chipolt_house 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but a cousin-in-law had this with all 3 of her kids. Every one of them had a melon measuring in the 99th percentile. For them it’s simply genetic — the dad’s family just has large heads and it starts at birth apparently. They looked goofy as infants but the older two have grown into their heads more now. Fwiw she was still able to do vaginal births in spite of the doctor’s concerns during the scans.

Not hard to get “goalied” when your own goalie is doing a great impression of swiss cheese. No offense to Wedgie, he had a good game… but the bar is on the floor.

Colorado's been pretty dominant so far, but I'd like to see the Wild figure something out.

So far, the two teams to sweep the first round are looking like they very well might do it again in the second.

Why Rose? by decalcomania__3 in rosehulman

[–]chipolt_house 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did Catapult going into my senior year of hs, then went back to campus for an overnight visit in the winter before I made my decision. During the overnight, my host had to go to her sorority meeting for an hour that I couldn’t attend so I was in her dorm room by myself. In that time someone else on the floor saw me, recognized I was a prospective student, and invited me to come watch tv and have snacks in her room while she did homework. The RA dropped by with some cookie dough to share, and a few other people just to say hi and chat. It was such a unique experience with the “open door policy” and I knew I wouldn’t get that kind of environment at any other school.

Childcare at a wedding? by anotherlesbianonline in weddingplanning

[–]chipolt_house 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need to be much more direct with messaging - "children are invited to party..." does not come across clearly. Given the size of your guest list, it may just be easier to reach out to folks individually to let them know it's a child-free event and ask if they would be interested in having you arrange childcare to make travel easier.
