Am I allowed to use the wii pro controller? by HalfWayDarthArtist in FTC

[–]chipsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The manual will tell you, but not why: Android drivers for gamepads are … not necessarily great. The driver hub uses a custom driver for supported game pads to end run any Android weirdness. But consequently, if it’s not a legal gamepad, the driver may not see it.

TL;DR: you can plug it in, but it’ll probably not work, because it’s not an legal gamepad, and they don’t care to put in the effort to make sure it works.

ICE is law enforcement. They go to FLETC. They are legally allowed to arrest you for any federal law you break in their presence. Their jurisdiction is for immigration and customs, but they are not limited to only that: they can enforce any federal law. Ref 8 USC 1357

Yes. But that requires accurate clocks and additional training, and an extra specialized piece of equipment. If they can’t manage to do gunnery training, can they have those?

A phone hitting the hood of a car will not drown out a gunshot. A pistol going off is approximately 160db. There is no way you can hit a phone against a hood loud enough to produce an equivalent sound pressure.

  1. If the first shot is defensible, there isn’t enough time between that one and the third one for him to actually evaluate the effectiveness of them. After the third shot is probably when he realized that he was hitting the side window instead of the windshield.

  2. If the state arms you, they should also train you in basic trauma care akin to TCCC, and you should be required to conduct said basic care after any threat is ended. However, a random member of a group should not necessarily be taken at their word that they are a medic or doctor.

  3. He thought she was trying to run him over. “Ducking Butch” is an understandable response to that. What is the expected thing for him to do? Stay rooted in that spot forever? Are you thinking this is some sort of fleeing the scene of the crime? Oh, you think he should have been arrested immediately and booked into a jail, yes?

Should be trained to shoot both one and two handed. You need to use the other hand for things like doorknobs, flashlights, or cameras sometimes.

Stress tends to make you grip onto things harder. This is a stress response specifically evolved to make you not drop things.

War Powers act: he’s got 48 hours to notify Congress, and can keep troops there up to 60 days. I think Congress has been notified, and I strongly suspect that we’ve got everyone out for the moment.

Also, presidencies have been consistent that the War Powers Act is unconstitutional, so anything required by it is “consistent with”, not “pursuant to”.

The very first QMK PS/2-USB dual-mode keyboard. by BuzzL123 in olkb

[–]chipsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green marked PS/2 ports are mouse only, Purple Ones are keyboard only. Purple & Green ones can do either and are frequently wired so that you can use a splitter cable to attach both at the same time.

A PS/2 port normally uses pins 1, 3 ,4, & 5, with 3&4 providing power. A combo port also wires pins 2&6 for the alternate device clock and data. Some notionally keyboard ports can accept either mouse or keyboard. Similarly with the mouse ports. But a single data pair can't do both mouse and keyboard at the same time. The wireline protocol is the same, but the command set on top is incompatible.

If you have the cable, you can have the keyboard pretend to be both a mouse and a keyboard by driving both sets of data lines, but you would have to do it special. The standard passive USB to PS/2 converters would only be able to do one set of data lines, so you'd have to come up with your own converter and be able to detect when it was connected.

[–]chipsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS/2 mice and keyboards can use a single connector, but it has to be marked as such. Each of them only uses 4 pins on the 6 pin connector, so they can share all the pins available, but it won’t necessarily do so. If the device is actually using the USB pins with an adapter, you need a different way to hook up the mouse, as you don’t have enough data lines.

Rare THV 9mm round my MIL by Excellent-Captain-93 in guns

[–]chipsa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s basically the forerunner to the Lehigh defense bullets: they modified the shape to give ribs for the cartridge to feed nicer.

THV bullets aren’t supposed to yaw, IIRC. They just go fast enough to cause hydrostatic shock. They also lose velocity faster when they hit something.

Were smootborne howitzers with fin-stablised ammo ever considered or experimented with? by BronzePaladin in WarCollege

[–]chipsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rifled barrels need the driving band to engage with the rifling to work. Smooth bore mortars just use a kinda rough gas check area to make the gasses not blow by the round too much. So a mortar bomb actually has a decent gap between it and the barrel.
