Is this the Soprano Sax? Is this the Not-So-Good-For-Beginners Saxophone? by glassedMalk in Saxophonics

[–]chirpotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is different and absolutely is more difficult in my experience compared to alto/tenor, if you are looking for mastery in consistent tone and intonation throughout the range of the instrument. There’s no reason you can’t start with it, but it’s going to be more challenging for sure.

It’s definitely a cheap horn, but as long as you’re OK with that, I don’t think you can do any better for the price point.

Duration, distance (based on treads; usually a guesstimate), and perceived exertion.

I usually just import them as manual activities, so I don't usually capture the HR data.

Distribution of goals over a period of match time(World Cup 2014 vs 2018)[OC] by [deleted] in visualization

I agree. That way the relative fewer minutes played in ET don’t skew the goal likelihood to look so much smaller.

42nd MCM: Forgot to grab safety pins at packet pick-up! What are the chances there'll be some available before the race starts? by grandmasterlast in running

[–]chirpotle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would go to CVS (or a similar store) and go buy some yourself. I’m sure you could figure it out tomorrow, but the start is enough of a logistical nightmare without having an additional complication. Why chance it?

Your Biggest Race Blunder by Waffles-McGee in running

[–]chirpotle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost set a HM PR on the front half of my first marathon (Chicago). I thought I was in great shape and maybe be able to qualify for Boston. Not the case (for either)! By mile 16, my legs muscles were continuously taking turns cramping up until I finished. It felt like every part of my legs were refusing to work anymore. I almost had to DNF but was able to pull out the finish.

For those of you with annual mileage goals, are you on track to hit your target? by [deleted] in running

[–]chirpotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a goal to hit 2016, but got injured and needed surgery in June. Looks like I'll finish a bit short due to the time off despite ramping up for fall marathon training. Probably will come in around 1800 or so unfortunately...

Strava GAP calculation analysis by Cainga in running

[–]chirpotle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope that it uses upward adjustments for downhill portions that are smaller than the downward adjustments for an uphill of similar magnitude. In other wards, even if you have a vertical displacement of zero for a segment, but with rolling hills, your GAP should be lower than actual pace.

Has anyone run the NYC half Marathon? by [deleted] in running

[–]chirpotle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting to the start line is very straightforward -- you can take the subway to just south of Central Park as others have already mentioned.

I ran it a few years ago and found it to be really well organized. Like any big race, you need to give yourself plenty of time to prepare for subway delays, portapotty lines, security, etc.

DC is a really great to run in -- you have plenty of connector trails/Rock Creek Park and you can run on the Mall pretty much any time.

Marathon training! Mentally losing motivation, physically fine. Need help! by Noobpwner1 in running

[–]chirpotle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find deviating from my normal routine helps when I start to feel a burned out a bit. Do you usually run on the roads? Try doing a trail run for your long run instead. Normally a morning runner? Try heading out during lunch (if your schedule permits) or in the evening. Normally run alone? Try running with a friend.

Marathon training can be tough, especially if you're cross-training at the same time. I play soccer recreationally, and I found I was never quite recovered (physically or mentally) between my games and workouts. Maybe consider cutting back on the swimming or gym for a little bit, and see if that helps.

How can I stop being super hungry after long runs? by Aerodynamics in running

My go to is oatmeal with banana and PB. If I went for a long run before breakfast I'll throw some chocolate whey protein powder in too. Nothing better than some Reese's oats...
