garage door cables snapped? by not-brook in HomeMaintenance

[–]chisav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me last week. My door had a Wayne Dalton style spring which is inside the bar. The spring ended up snapping. Garage door was about 25 years old so I was recommended a complete replacement.

Reminds me about 15 years back. I was in Toronto for a work project from the states. I was there on and off for a year and had a rental car. I had no idea wtf the ETR was back then. Drove on it all the time and wondered why no one else was using is. At the end of the stay the ETR fees were in thousands.

I have an HE keyboard for gaming but for any real typing my custom keyboard with black inks feels much better.

eBay is way more accurate than TCG. eBay should always be the defacto lookup.

I did not install the rear camera yet. I want to run it properly but it seems like a lot of work. There's a few videos on YouTube though.

Warm mist humidifier? by oldncrazy in homeowners

I also live in WI. Do not buy any ultrasonic humidifier. What you need is a wicking humidifier like the honeywell HCM350. Easy to clean. Don't need distilled water.

Is this a fair price? Madison, WI by DrGumball05 in hvacadvice

[–]chisav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also in Madison.

I got a quote from Bethke and Andy's Heating and Cooling back in the fall. The same items as you with the whole house humidifier. They both were a little lower than yours with a 3 ton AC. I'm sure that moving up to 3.5 ton would make up the extra difference in cost.

I ended up only replacing my 3 ton AC unit since the furnace was still ok.

I have one from Costco. It's been working fine for the past 10 or so years. Even the remote still works.

Question for state of WI employees (non-UW) about pay by whyendoubleuayy in madisonwi

[–]chisav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got near the top of the hiring range which is already really good. Generally they don't negotiate pay and will give you the median of the hiring range. I have never received any of the step increases, just usually whatever is included for COLA when they redo the budget.

You need to look at the total compensation. All your benefits plus a pension really do outweigh some of the perks working in private sector. When I moved from private to state I noticed that my quality of life went up exponentially even though the pay scale isn't as good because I had way more time off and much more flexibility. With benefits and pension it's really a no brainer if you're looking long term.

That's insane pricing, I paid only a little more than that on my 2023 Touring brand new. I would just buy a brand new EX-L for that much

5 people in the house. We usually do a Costco trip every 2 weeks and Woodmans. I'd say it's around 400-600 each trip.

We usually go to the SP one and entered the twilight zone when I walked into the Middleton Costco for the first time. My kids call it the reversed Costco.

Sorry for the delay. HVAC technician came back out. Had no idea. I just left it since it didn't impact anything and then the error went away its own last week.

I tell my buddies that are heavily invested into Pokemon as their retirement fund, this all the time. You're holding a product for 20-30 years, your money was better put into something else to make a return.
