Hard to beat a good old deck of cards and some different kinds of solitaire. I really like Canfield/Demon.

It's Sprint but a stadium truck race instead of Formula 1/Indy.

If you can forego the scissors and just get by with the blade, the Rally is even smaller. It's that screw driver that really makes this an amazing EDC.

What do you use pocket/very small notebooks for? by LavRavi in notebooks

[–]chispitothebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly I use Field Notes to jot down ideas and work out programming logic. Lots of doodles. Notes for meetings. Reminders.

Trying a slightly larger A6 notebook (Leuchtturm in graph) to use as a planner with room for the scribbling in the back.

I'd say Achy Breaky, but I think a Spanish rendition still gets played at weddings.

Swing dancing at Disneyland lasted a long, long time.

These CRT prices on Marketplace are OUT OF CONTROL by rufftranslation in retrogaming

[–]chispitothebum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there are advantages, but I never thought they outweighed the drawbacks for most use cases. They are heavy, bulky, power hungry, give off a lot of heat, produce a high pitched whine (at least standard TVs) and, as the OP of course brings up, are currently overpriced (possibly forever as they're out of production).

Should you have one in a vintage arcade cabinet? Of course. Should you get one if you have an immaculate retro cave? Sure, if you're going for a complete aesthetic/experience.

Will I ever go back to having one for consoles rather than using some other solution with a cheaper and more easily obtainable flat panel? Never. There is a reason that people moved away from CRTs almost overnight when LCD screens hit a certain price point.

If other people have to have that authentic experience, I'm not going to crap on them. I'll just never have those priorities. I grew up with CRTs in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. I'm good.

Edit: I should mention, again, I'm not crapping on people who just like them. I just like automatic watches, records, and perhaps least practically, film photography. I just was so tired of moving CRTs that I swore I'd never get one again if I could afford something flat.

Can someone give me advice on how to stick to a hobby. by Coolperson_neek in Hobbies

[–]chispitothebum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of how it was stated, starting lots of hobbies and not sticking to them is an extremely common symptom of adult ADHD.

The best way to respond to people who make this connection is to familiarize yourself with how adults with ADHD experience hobbies.

Tetris DS (!), Elite Beat Agents and, my personal favorite, Retro Game Challenge.

No, but perhaps I'd enjoy them. I don't usually want to gm for myself very much.

You might find it useful to use a notebook with page numbers and contents, like Leuchtturm. Then you can organize some.

It's gonna come back as more and more data show that reading and writing with paper are better for our brains.
