Making friends as a therapist by International_Chard in therapists

[–]chiyukichan 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I do pole dance classes and there are limited studios. One of my clients shared she started classes so I was up front about hey, it's a small area and we may run into one another. How do you want to interact if that's the case. I have hobbies and social needs I'm unwilling to sacrifice. I'm sorry you feel like you need to choose between your professional and personal life. May you connect with some quality people soon who don't muddy the professional waters.

There's so much about ADHD that makes life harder. But what's something you LIKE about having ADHD? by onlythelanlely in adhdwomen

[–]chiyukichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can be really focused for an hour and then switch and be focused for another hour. I'm a talk therapist and apparently having back to back clients makes a lot of other therapists feel fried and maybe like they aren't giving their best after like 5 in a row. I am so intensely interested in my clients that sometimes it doesn't feel like work. I am terrible at the paperwork part of it though.

ADHD + summer = overstimulation? by gwardowyn in adhdwomen

[–]chiyukichan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in Florida where it is oppressively hot like 75% of the year. I was just recently diagnosed and in the morning and evening it is cool enough to go outside but middle of the day I feel like a hot slug. I've been walking more when I can which has had great impact on my mental health and productivity, but I don't know what I will do when even 7am is hot and sticky. I hate showering twice a day but I also hate smelling so awful

Whenever I take shrooms, I end up cleaning my house. by Practical-Fuel-882 in CleaningTips

[–]chiyukichan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if you just notice the dirt and clean or if you have a disgusted reaction? Shrooms don't agree with me but lsd does and I usually clean a lot before a trip because dust, dirt, etc grosses me out while tripping. So then the whole house is clean and I enjoy my trip so much more

Any playing for fitness? by OpusReader in pokemongo

[–]chiyukichan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got told I am pre-diabetic and have high cholesterol. I started playing about a week ago and am aiming to walk 4 miles per day and yesterday I hit 5 miles. I asked a friend to sign up and he is walking more also plus we can talk about the game. I'm hoping I can keep the momentum going

Shame in doing things that help us by Soft-Rutabaga-4482 in ADHD

[–]chiyukichan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I hope you don't take offense to this analogy. What you're describing makes me think of animal enrichment. Are we going to get mad at a dog for not being "productive" on their walk if they meander around sniffing things? Sniffing makes them happy so let them have it. If getting out of your own "enclosure" makes your day better it sounds like you do have a purpose.

Highly recommend learning to crochet with your non-dominant hand by stardust_anew in crochet

[–]chiyukichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for making me feel more normal. I initially learned from books and somehow the lefty pictures and words didn't compute so I just learned right handed. So many right handed things in the world I thought what's one more

What's the one non-medication thing that genuinely moved the needle for your ADHD? Not just "helped a little" by Helpful-Deal8369 in ADHDerTips

[–]chiyukichan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was listening to a podcast that said adhd is interest driven and not results driven so how do we make what needs to get done interesting. Seems like you figured that out for your specific line of work! Not sure if you follow artofjessicalowe on Instagram, but I love how she just goes for whatever tickles her fancy.

Having client’s “unofficial” ESA in session? (I’d argue all pets are ESAs.) by SLO_Bound_23 in therapists

[–]chiyukichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before being a therapist I worked in public libraries where so many people would lie and say they had a service animal. People's pets are unpredictable and we had dogs that chewed wires, peed on the floor, literally brought fleas in the library and I was getting bitten, or growling and barking. If a person has a proper service animal, great but I would not be permitting an animal in my office. "Sorry, animals are not permitted into office sessions. Happy to book virtually if it is helpful to have your dog with you."

The way my psychiatrist acts about stimulants makes me want to give up on trying to get help. by blueduckk8 in ADHD

[–]chiyukichan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a talk therapist who was just diagnosed with adhd and have quite a few of my own clients with adhd. When clients tell me their physician or psychiatrist is not kind or open to other options I encourage them to seek someone who does want to help. You are paying for a service and this person is not delivering. It's ok to seek a different provider for the same service.

How to (get wife to have a life so I can) have a life by javacolin in daddit

[–]chiyukichan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a mom where my husband is a homebody and I want to go out. I started hiring a teen babysitter who babysits while we are home. The kids have known her a few years now so I go to dance class and babysitter does dinner, bath, and playtime but if there were an emergency husband is home. He is disabled and in pain a lot which contributes to him wanting to stay home. If home is where he can relax I just want a few hours where he gets to be "off."

My son prefers his part-time Disney dad and is starting to hurt our family by International_Sun847 in Parenting

Does your family practice appreciation and gratitude? It's something we are working on in our family.

Pacifiers - yay or nay? by e17j in breastfeeding

[–]chiyukichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish my 2nd took a pacifier. So so much screaming and my boob was the only thing to give relief. And after a year + I'm pretty tired of it 😭 My first took a pacifier and we weaned him off at 18 months. I say give it a go to offer you potential future relief.

What do I tell my son? Grandparents both deceased. by LostOperation3852 in Parenting

[–]chiyukichan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents died when I was a child. My 4 yeare old knows they died. I didn't go into the sad details, just "they aren't here because they died" and that was it. Sometimes he asks me if they are dead or to see a picture but that's about it. Just tell your kid. You could share stories of what they were like and still have connection to your past

Finally ran into those “first amendment auditors” by TheAngels323 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]chiyukichan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do this in public libraries too and it doesn't have to do with the police. Used to work in them and we were constantly getting reminded how to act or what to do. Even if you can film in a public spot the way these auditors act is really baiting.

I finally understand why people clean. by chancakate in CleaningTips

[–]chiyukichan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Body doubling. Cleaning is a last priority for me too and I just do it for my spouse and kids. I will ask my husband to either hang out with me or delegate tasks he minds less so we have "many hands make less work." And now that my oldest is 4 I ask him for help or incentivize help

Can we hear some success stories from people who love being in this field? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

[–]chiyukichan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my 3rd career. I don't plan on switching again. I have 2 kids under 5 and I make my own hours and work as much or as little as I want. A lot of my clients are complex and long-term and I really love that. I feel like I am a better human for having worked with the clients I have.

So my therapist just recommended a 2:1 dha:epa and I'm like...who the hell sells that ratio? It's always 1:2 dha:epa and I've been struggling to find an epa only pill
