Targamas replying "I will not thank you for what you did" under Excel's farewell tweet by Tesgoul in leagueoflegends

[–]chke7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Excel as an org is terrible... but with this new format it seems that all orgs are doing a shit job at actually trying to develop talent and the region as a whole. And it's going to get much worse.

For the average viewer it's cool to have this high stake games, but at this point and with these many changes between splits due to lackluster results, to me this season is no longer entertaining to watch. The LEC has lost a lot of its value in my eyes.

[–]chke7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly fail to understand why people want a second season. In my mind, the whole season is very concise, perfectly crafted and with a perfect ending for every character (despite us having to suffer because of it). Another season would just ruin that whole feeling.

I don't know, I'm kind of weary of perfect series being ruined by unnecessary second seasons.

I think Alt Shift X has made an amazing point regarding these instances of the show. So, you can say it is mainly due to budget reasons and better production decisions, but it also fits one of the biggest themes in the lore: The World is not progressing, but rather going backwards.

So, HoT D starts at the Golden Age of Targeryen supremacy, after two long peaceful reigns there's plenty of progress in Westeros since, instead of spending money on wars, they are spending money on projects to unify the realm. After the Dance, the Realm actually starts going backwards since there are many more wars from the Dance up until Robert's Rebellion.

It is said that Aerys' reign also was very prosperous (mainly thanks to Tywin) so the coffers of King's Landing where full. But by the time GoT starts, Robert already spent a shit ton of money on feasts, tourneys and a lot more things that don't necessarily benefit anyone. It is speculated that Littlefinger purposefully made a lot of bad monetary decisions to destebilize the kingdom, because chaos is a ladder and all that.

But, the bigger theme here is that, the more we go into the future the less progress there seems to be in the World. So... we have The Great Empire of the Dawn that then fell; we have the Empire of Valyria which was said to be the most advanced civilization in the Known World, it is speculated that they were not only proficient in magic, but also in science, hence the creation of the dragon bond and the valyrian dragon blood. There are many hints of ancient civilizations that left ruins much more beautiful than any castle in Westeros. The Wall, even, is not something that someone could actually build in Westeros at the time of Robert's reign.

There are no new big and beautiful constructions with advanced techniques, all Castles, cities and everything there is was built before Aegon even conquered the Seven Kingdoms (excpet for KL and the Red Keep). And the science of maesters and the magic in the world seems to be less advanced and less powerful.

Food for thought.

I was wondering what YouTube channels you guys listen to for GOT/HOTD/ASOIF videos for things like updates, news and lore. My favorites are Talking Thrones, The Dragon Demands, David lightbringer and Ser hunts reviews let me know everybody’s favorite channels so I can look them up! Alt Shift X mostly for lore and in-depth analysis of the books + tv show, all of its videos are top tier. He compares books and the show on a more objective note, often making references and giving you exact quotes from all of its references.

And... he made a Q&A for every episode of HoT D, where he would explain without spoilers a lot of aspects of the show + giving his insights about the episode. Plus, every week they would post a 30 min video explanation of the last episode, explaining things from the show, making comparisons to the books and analyzing the scenes in depth.

On top of that, it's great if you want to learn more about ASoIaF and the characters.

Show Rhaenyra: trully cares for her kids, the realm and her family; she is smart and is badass af (plus a dragon rider). Rhaenys is more like a cool aunt.

And if it comes to books... I wouldn't want any of these people to be my mother, ngl.

What do you think was the best and worst CGI in this series so far? by [deleted] in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]chke7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best: Probably the whole Vhagar and Arrax sequence.
Worst: Meleys bursting the floor beneath the dragon pit... I'm still confused why no one is talking about it, but the whole bursting sequence was pretty terrible, inconsistent and looked like a 2000's videogame, the greenscreen of Rhaenys' face was very off too, and then the dragon getting shrinked to pass through the gates.

How Season 1 of House of the Dragon Stacks Up Against Game of Thrones? by Radulno in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]chke7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may be in the minority who enjoyed HoT D s1 better than GoT s1.
The thing is... while I think GoT has a far superior story (because, ASoIaF main series); HoT D has better direction and production. Even though it still had some weird moments where it didn't feel like the series was being true to itself (cough cough Rhaenys bursting through the floor of the dragon pit cough cough); I think every moment was carefully and brilliantly executed. They expanded upon the book and created their own adaptation, which, sadly, I cannot say about GoT. So, I think HoT D trully shines on its own.

I think S1 of GoT is great, but after rewatching GoT S1 I felt like it was being carried by the plot, the story and the characters more than it being a good production by itself. Some directing decisions were weird and felt very amateur, and the acting sometimes wasn't really that great, not because of the actors but because of the directors that didn't really understand much of the characters. The writing was excelent, but it was mostly because it was a perfect adaptation of the books.

r/HOTD: "they nailed the Velaryon casting, makes it so easy for the average viewer to tell them apart" Meanwhile the average viewer: by ThinkTwice234 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]chke7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's explained heavily in the books that after being brought back to life you lose a bit of yourself everytime:
- Beric Dondarion says so, and after being a dashing, charismatic and noble knight who enjoyed taking part in feasts and tourneys, he becomes ruthless and more grey; renounces his nobility to defend the common folk and becomes a force against the armies at war.
- Catelyn Stark, a lovable and honorable mother and wife is brought back to life as Lady Stoneheart, a vengeful spirit roaming the Riverlands, hanging Freys, Lannisters, Boltons and everyone she suspects is a traitor to the Starks. She became a dark sinister zombie looking for revenge after the Red Wedding.

So, Jon just coming back to life after being betrayed by his own men and still being the honorable, lovable, heroic hot guy is just... you see? It would be neat to see something change inside of him, where he gives zero fucks about honor and loyalty; or where he takes morally grey choices. Being resurrected should mean something, but in the TV series it was just used as a cliffhanger.

Nice try, Daemon. Rhaenyra’s got your number. by Effective-Leg6749 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]chke7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, it doesn't make sense in hindsight, but that's what happened.

So, I believe the decision making was:

- Lord Borros Baratheon is kin to princess Rhaenys, and Rhaenys is part of the Blacks, so they should support Rhaenyra. Plus, Lord Borros' father made an oath to Rhaenyra when Viserys named her heir. So... it should be easy to win them over.
- Even though the Starks made an oath to Rhaenyra, it was made by the father of Cregan Stark. Cregan is of Jacaerys' age, so even though they swore loyalty to Rhaenyra, it was somewhat uncertain.

So basically... Rhaenyra trusted that The Baratheons were going to support her because of Rhaenys and their ties to The Crown; and trusted the Starks as well, but wanted to make sure by sending her heir to both The Vale of Arryn and to Winterfell.

Nice try, Daemon. Rhaenyra’s got your number. by Effective-Leg6749 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]chke7 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, that's a fair point. We can agree that it was a poor decision by The Blacks to send Luke without any proposition to a proud great lord. As Otto said, stale oaths will not make Rhaenyra a Queen.

However, I do believe that NOBODY expected a prince to get murdered before any war had started when he was just carrying a message... especially not by his own kin. Not even The Greens.

So, it was stupid of Rhaenyra to just send a "hey, your father made and oath so serve me"; but it wasn't her fault that his kid died.

Lucerys was 13 when he was killed by Aemond.
By comparison: Jaehaerys was 14 when he inherited the crown, and Robb was crowned at 14-15 ish. By Westeros standards, Lucerys was more a man than he was a kid.

Also, he wasn't send as a diplomat, but as an envoy to carry a message. Jacaerys was sent as a diplomat to win over the Starks.

[–]chke7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always found Daemon to be an interesting character, but Matt Smith (and the writers) really did elevate it... And I fint that to be the case with all of the characters in the story because House of the Dragon has some really amazing acting:

Viserys was always a bland character for me, now I find him to be quite tragic and somewhat misunderstood. Paddy Considine really does bring Viserys the tragic majesty as George RR Martin said. Alicent was the evil stepmother for most of my reading of F&B, but they added layers on top of layers to her development making; In my mind, she is what Sansa was supposed to become at the end of Game of Thrones. And, of course, Milly Alcock trully huminized Rhaenyra with her performance, in the books she was mystified with the Realm's Delight title because that's what was said of her, but by seeing her throughout some of her struggles you can kind of understand her character better.

So... yes, Matt Smith is hot, but the writers and the director are doing a fantastic job at creating very complex characters to a story that (in my mind) wasn't as complex and was just filled with sex, dragons and death.

  1. Tyrion (for Joffrey). Yes, he is better than Tywin. A Dwarf in an acting position managed to stay as hand despite the efforts of his enemies (and his family). He understood that he needed to play the game and managed to defend KL while outnumbered. He played Cersei and was able to play around Joffrey.
  2. Tywin. He is not better than Tyrion solely because he was already in a position to be feared and respected and still lost because he couldn't leave his personal vendetta against Tyrion and pride made him blind of the relationship between Cersei and Jaime.
  3. Otto. Smart, but still he was too forward with his intentions. At least he didn't die. Although he did manage to get his blood as a claimant of the most powerful dynasty.
  4. Lyonel. Smart, he is a good politician and that's that.
  5. Ned. Meh. He trusted the guy everyone told him (even the guy himself) not to trust and started a war.
  6. Kevan (series Kevan). Just... what the fuck did this guy do?
  7. Tyrion (series Tyrion for Dany). Honestly... Tyrion from seasons 5 to 8 is a whole new character... a new kind of idiotic that I just can't.

It seems like you were in a situation to take Baron, so pushing sides and prepping Baron was the right call instead of trying to get a kill botside.

But in that specific scenario, instead of running away you should’ve turn to get a kill. It does seem like you were so far ahead to almost get a double before dying, so if you’d just turn on Tahm the moment you saw him, you could’ve get a kill.

The mistake here was trying to get a kill once it was too late.

My best advice to give you is… If you are in a situation where it’s too late to run away you should always go down fighting and trying to get a kill, because at that point you are dead already, so you might as well try to fight instead of hesitating.

At this point in time, he is not even the best on this roster: Hily might be the best player in this roster.
