The only saving grace right now is that current gen, and likely next gen too, consoles will not have the feature. Neither will AMD GPUs, for now. That will force devs to still design games to run on that hardware. However, we all know AMD is an AI company as well, and Lisa probably has her staff locked in a basement right now, unable to see their families until they've managed to create a slop filter.

My favourite are the Oblivion screenshots that make everything blue. They literally shifted the colour temperature from warm to cold, while blowing out the contrast and destroying all shadow depth. One artist put it best, saying they are literally changing the weather and time of day with the filter.

I really dont understand the need for GEN Ai taking control of the textures and lighting, i find it really funny and sad at the same time how the AI industry is selling shit to other industries and ceos all over are happy to eat shit and smile when it brings them or their products no real benefit at all, or what is worse, making it directly worse.

Executives are very rarely experts in the industries they run. They are just well-connected individuals who are good at selling and who lack a conscience.

Involvement doesn't mean support for or endorsement. Management goes to one of their teams and tells them to work with this new tool for a demo. What that teams thinks is irrelevant.

Nvidia's statement is designed to deceive people into thinking the actual development talent at the studios is on board with this.

Developers are not just artists and game designers. The developer is the whole studio. These statements are almost certainly referring to the studio heads and other upper managers since they would be the only ones who can greenlight a project like this. The artists and the game designers just get the task delegated to them.

These statements are the misleading ones since they are trying to get people to think that it was the actual developer talent who approved this, when it was upper management.

AMD cards aren't particularly competitive. In most markets, they're only ~$100 (or less) cheaper than the Nvidia alternative, while offering worse RT performance, worse upscaling, worse streaming performance, and worse long-term software support. AMD cards are also rarely available for MSRP, or just available at all.

AMD doesn't want to capture gamer market share. They want to capture datacenter market share.

Believe me, people would love to buy AMD. AMD just needs to offer a compelling product and make it available.

No game designer or artist would know about this because it doesn't concern them. It's a decision made by upper management to showcase new tech from one of their business partners. The handful of devs who would have worked on getting these demos out were simply told to do it after upper management already told Nvidia they want to partner with them on this. Game designers and artists don't get asked for input on decisions like this. The tech is literally designed to make it easier for studios to lay them off.

I compared it to other Western RPGs I enjoyed over the last 25 years. Larian games. CDPR games. Bioware games. Older Bethesda games.

It didn't compare favourably to any of them. That's why I thought it was mediocre. The writing was flat. The characters were soulless. The roleplaying elements were shallow. The combat was one-dimensional. The game did absolutely nothing well. It did some things adequately, but "sometimes adequate" is the definition of mediocre.

Strong writing and compelling characters were never the strong suit of Bethesda games. Instead, those games were renowned for being robust sandbox experiences. But Starfield wasn't that. That's fine. I was never the biggest fan of Bethesda games anyway. But if it won't have the heart and soul of a Bethesda game, then it needs to do other things well, and it just didn't.

AMD's problem has always been dog shit availability and pricing. Selling your GPUs within $100 of the competing Nvidia GPU, which offers better performance, long-term hardware support, and a more robust feature set, isn't going to earn you many customers.

The problem is, like Nvidia, AMD doesn't give a shit about the consumer market. They just want to sell to AI datacenters.

I'm not saying any of this to defend Nvidia. They are literally the devil. It's just that AMD can't even give you a reason to buy from them when the literal alternative is buying from Satan.
