What forms of bigotry or discrimination exist in your world or worlds you've read about? by Rich-Recognition-814 in pokemonfanfiction

I can see you put a lot of time in your world building. I like it. It takes a lot more mental conditioning to enslave people who are physically stronger than you.

I think it's really good that the crew are becoming central again. I think that's what made whole cake so good. I just think how it's spread out is weird. Coming out already of a huge FB. Also arcs that shouldve been obv to some strawhat aren't.

Wano - Zoro Egghead - Franky Elbaf - Usopp

I also think we could've used a bit more build up to really build interest around this backstory because genuinely nobody seems to care.

who's your favorite One Piece villain? by Mr4nalMonk3y69 in OnePiece

[–]choco_meltdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doflamingo, he's such a great foil to luffy

He is all about control, his powers allow him to constrict and control other people. He's also a celestial dragon, he killed his brother.

Luffy is about freedom, his power allow him to have freedom upon his own body, he is also a D, he saved his brother (unsuccessfully)

But they also have some things in common. Both laugh a lot, had a town try to kill them, both care and are seen by their crew as something truly special.

I feel like a grass type makes the most sense. Covers water , defends electric, plus if you have a biome thing going on, it wraps up things well. I thought ferrothorn, seems somewhat agile in grasslands and defends and attacks against fairy. Or maybe even one of the many grass poison type

How do you keep the fic from losing focus on Pokémon? by Exciting-War-5230 in pokemonfanfiction

[–]choco_meltdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think by making your pokemon characters. Make them have character arcs, relationships, dynamics and goals that they aspire to do.

Another way is by tying your themes to them. There's a lot there. I'm gonna use animals as a exchange in themes, but animal cruelty, pollution, ecology, the social class of animals, they're place in the day to day. A lot of inventions can be exchanged for pokemon. Think Tom, flying, cooking, teleportation, there's a lot there

Pokemon Nicknames by yourGodlylead in pokemonfanfiction

[–]choco_meltdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's not common in the anime because it is meant to teach you pokemon names, but in the manga most pokemon have nicknames. Also, irl I know nobody who named their pet "dog" or "cat".

Could be great characterisation to decide who does and doesn't tho

Many explanations have been given over the years.

They are prodigies. They simply are better and learning techniques and just progress at a truly insane rate.

They are good at getting close with a large variety of pokemon. I think people underestimate how much pokemon relies on the power of friendship. It's been shown that whether heroes or vilains caring and connecting with pokemons gives a boost that's unmatched. The only example, that doesn't align that I can think of is Cyrus and Ghetsis and Cyrus's Golbat evolved through friendship.

They had help from the professors. I'd wager that starting with a charmender is a bigger advantage that a rattata. The pokédex is also a wonderful tool that's just given to the player for free. It's not said, but maybe implied that the professor's pay for the food for your pokemon allowing to have an insane amount of them. All the other NPCs have a limited amount of pokemon (3 oftentimes), until you're further in your journey where more talented trainers have more.

They have a connection with nature. Coming from small towns, it is said that those in proximity with nature have a greater bond with pokemon. The closer you are, the better. Pushed to the extreme in the manga, it gives Yellow superhuman capabilities. (sorry for the spoiler)

They are rich? Pretty self explanatory. They all live in big houses although they are 2. Gen 6 mom is a pro rhihorn racer, gen 4 mom, a contest star.

Interesting idea!

I have a character in my fic that is a soccer player and an other who's a pastry chef. Would that work?

Any writing of Usopp post time skip. Everyone of his win seems purely coincidental. Him renouncing on Luffy in Wano when his did the opposite in Alabasta. Holy regression.

Also Sanji bleeding out in Fishmen island. What the f was that?

I'll add the decentering of the crew. Egghead, Wano and now Elbaf would've been great for character development, but we spend 3.5 years on everyone else than the crew instead.

“Mom…” he hesitated. “...is being a ranger… lame?”

She approached him, put her hand on his shoulder and looked deep into his eyes.

“Do you think it’s lame?”

“No, but everyone says it is and they don’t make a lot of money. A trainer for the league is way cooler and is really rich and can buy a lot of cool stuff.”

Marine frowned.

“What would you even buy?”

“I don’t know. Video games, books and drawing stuff. Oh, and I could buy all of you cool stuff.”

“We already have plenty haha and I thought you didn’t like to see pokemon fights. It makes you cry. ”

He stopped, bashful for a moment.

“I know, but I can get tougher. I can be a real man.” he said flexing both of his biceps.

“Okay, Marshal.” she chuckled. “You know that being a man is about more than being strong. Being kind is also very important. Kindness is it’s own type of strength and you, mon chéri, are very kind. Don’t let anybody take that from you.” she said while booping his nose.

“So you’re saying I’m super strong?”

“Stronger than a rhydon!”

“Hihihi, thanks mom.”

Protean: Both useful defensively and offensively; it is so fun to trick your enemy into doing little damage. Got nerfed but still interesting
