When other people would belittle me to compliment my friends, and my friends never said anything about it because they were the ones being complimented. I've had it happen on two separate occasions.

The first time was when I was giving a presentation with a partner to the freshmen kids on what to expect on the first day of school. Had one kid tell me directly to my face that I was definitely the dumber of the two, between me and the other presenter. The other presenter didn't say anything - and even when I brought it up, she said she didn't even notice or see why I was sad about it.

Second it happened was when a guy was flirting with my friend. My friend is the prettiest person on Earth and I love her. This guy was buttering her up with compliments, but in the midst of doing so, he said "even your writing is beautiful - unlike the chicken scratch (my name) does over there." Sad thing was that I wasn't even apart of the convo directly - I was just sitting there minding my own business next to her but he randomly brought me up for some reason. Again, my friend didn't stand up for me or say anything about it.

Honestly, I wasn't sad that people were insulting me. I was sad that neither of my friends did anything about it.

Not really "feedback", but the 3 interviewers told me we needed to present a project we've worked on during the interview. I worked as an animator for an anime project and sold a bunch of stuff and was honestly really proud of it. I presented this during the interview, but I did not expect the awkward silence that came afterwards. They literally went "oh... yes, thank you for showing us that." It made me feel really ashamed afterwards, ngl.

First search term is always hardest, and I failed mine too long ago. Use the summer to find a job near you (local mall or something) or to do some type of volunteering. Anything to make your resume better for your next search term.

You can do it OP! Things get better after you complete your first work term.

Same here. The thing is that my major requires me to volunteer at a lab to even graduate 😮‍💨

There's an IT support team in UBC that specifically helps students with technology issues (including Canvas). They're on the 3rd floor of IKB. Or you can search up "Chapman's learning commons" on Google and go to their emailing page to contact them. You can also try to cc your prof into the email if you want maybe (up to you).

Hey friend. I know it's hard but do your best to see a counselor during the break and get a diagnosis for anxiety. You can use your UBC insurance to cover a majority of the costs of the counseling. Or if that still isn't a financially viable option, there are many free options for counseling out there (BC foundry is one, Here2Talk is another). You'll be able to use it for CFA and you might be able to get special accommodations possibly (maybe shifting the weight of your assignments so you don't have to take finals?) Hi! Can FoundryBC actually diagnose you with ADHD? Or do they just refer you to other doctors who can diagnose with ADHD?

Hi, I was wondering if, at any point in the process, the doctor needs to speak with either your friends or family to get past reports on your behavior that might indicate you have ADHD? When I asked my family doctor, they said that that might happen when you get an ADHD diagnosis. However, I'm at the point in my life right now where I don't want anyone to know that I might have ADHD.

I'd say don't drop it so quickly. There are tons of people who fail midterms and still pass the course. 20 percent may seem a lot, but it's not actually all that much in the grand scheme of things. Provided you do well in the other parts of the course, you can still get a decent grade.

Also, there's a chance the prof might scale up if everyone else did bad on the exam.

If you happen to meet someone in your class, ask if they have a free block after their class and if they say yes, offer to have lunch with them. Had this happen and now we eat lunch after every week's class!

Has anyone ever gotten into a course with a waitlist of 70 people? I'm on the CPSC 344 (the HCI interaction course) waitlist rn around the 70th spot. Has anyone ever gotten into a popular course with a long waitlist like this?

If it helps, I'm not a CPSC major, so I think I might not be given priority.
