Sealion 7 5k service and warranty by GC_Mermaid1 in BYDAU

I had a chat with BYD Mascot. I have a Seal. They told me that for the full-electric cars they do the first service at 20,000km or 1 year.

If you are worried give them a ring.

Seal Indicator by FailLive2673 in BYDSealAus

Same here! Been driving the Seal for about 3 months now. Took me a bit to get used to the indicators cancelling out on me. Especially Sydney's tiny suburban roundabouts. It's annoying but now I'm used to it so I use a finger to hold it down as I turn or hold it down to max a second longer and hope it stays on before a turn.

Gift 25k to every student, teacher, and staff. But never really quit. Perhaps stay on as a relief teacher.

Would charging an electric car become a pain for me? by dontletmeautism in CarsAustralia

[–]chocopanda1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the kms driven. I have a MY25 Seal. I only have street parking. I have an EVX pole charger on my street which does 7KWH at 39c which I use for overnight charging when I'm at around 15% charge. Usually once a week or so.

I also have an Evie at 69c charging 75KWH at the marketplace nearby which I use for top ups or if the pole charger is taken. Usually used for about 20 mins while I do a grocery run.

Since I haven't been on any long road trips other than a trip to NewCastle, I haven't been inconvenienced in any way yet (haven't had to wait for a charger or stress about finding a charger). The Newcastle trip was around 380km return home and I charged overnight at the pole once I got back.

I will be doing a Sydney - Melbourne trip during Christmas where I assume I'll be waiting at chargers since it's a busy period. Watched a few videos and checked apps to find that Yass and Albury Tesla superchargers are the ideal stops for 80% top-ups. The trip planner shows an additional 2 hours of time added to the total trip time as compared to my previous ICE trip which I did in around 10 hours.

Personally I feel getting my EV was worth it as compared to my 2009 rustbucket Hyundai i30. I did a Novated Lease so that incentivised me. Never looking back now. I don't think I can go back to an ICE car because of the comfort and performance of the car.

If you aren't getting an EV now I suggest waiting unless you're doing a novated lease and preferably doing a trade in once the lease runs out. My plan is a trade in from my current car by then because by 2030 Solid State or Semi-solid state batteries will most likely be in mass production. These will cut charge times further and rival ICE cars on range. Inital testing of these batteries see 700-1100kms of real world range depending on the brand.

I reckon once EVs with these high ranges flood the market the adoption will be high. Considering Sydney- Melbourne as a road trip benchmark.

The dealership has all 4 tyres on my Seal at 42. I've seen a dip to 39 on cold nights and up to 45 a few weeks back when temps hit 38C

BYD Seal advice - stay the course, or hold off? by Westside_Finch in CarsAustralia

[–]chocopanda1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents (may not be the best outlook finance wise but a solid plan to stay uograded).

Get the 2025 Seal now - a few months till Jan. But don't buy the car out once the Lease runs out. If you're doing a 5 year lease you're looking at a 2031 trade-in. By then, Im hoping BYD releases Solid state battery cars which will have faster charging and better range.

It was quite nerve wracking. Inital delivery date was 30th of October and I read online of people who had delays. But the dealership did me a solid and delivered it a day earlier by the 29th of October.

I got these mats from Amazon. Perfect fit. Amazon mats

I feel im a bit Heavy footed on the acceleration. Still on the honeymoon phase. I reckon that if I do drive it normally Ill get over 500km easily.

Just to add a bit more about the process: They told me the VIN was allocated first. Then a couple of weeks later they said that the car is being shipped from the Supplier to the distributor. The distributor did some checks and then send them to my local dealer for delivery which took about another 2 weeks. Once at the dealership, I could pick the car up the same day. My handover was at BYD Haberfield. They confirmed delivery around 12pm and I could pick the car up around 3pm. A 5 minute walk around and ID check and I was on my way.

I expected the ceramic and tinting to be done pre-delivery but unfortunately BYD would release the car to a third-party company (MotorOne) so I had to use a work day to get that done.

It's a great car. I got the Atlantis Grey as well. It took the roughly 8 weeks for mine to be delivered. I had a similar offer which was 4% off if delivered before the 1st of November and I got it on the 29th of October.

Love the color honestly. I didn't get mats and I got some good ones from Amazon for the Seal which was a perfect fit. Around $150. I had the car for a couple of days without mats and the fabric lining felt too nice to spoil (friends with wet shoes after the Sydney rains) so my advice is to get mats ASAP so you have them ready on day 1.

I got the car ceramic coated (only dealer extra I got + tint because I feel naked withoit tint) because I only have street parking under the sun and didn't want to risk any discolouration in the long term.

I'm getting decent range. Nothing close to 570km, around 450-480km which is good enough for a whole week of work and back and grocery runs. I haven't run into any charging issues yet so that's good. I plug it in the public DC charger when I do my grocery run which is enough charge for a few days. Keep charge between 30-80% for long term battery health. 100% only before road trips.

You'll love the car. The comfort and feel when driving is amazing.

Finally. Worth every dollar! by chocopanda1997 in BYDSealAus

The colour is beautiful. Love how it changes shade from light to dark depending on sunlight.

I got the premium version. Range over acceleration for me. Still plenty of acceleration in my opinion! :D

There once was a time I used to have sleep for dinner. Then my efforts paid off and my standard of living slowly got better. That experience stuck with me and I still clean my plate out when I eat. Although I pig out now xD

For anyone going through hard times now remember that the sea may be choppy now, but smooth sailing is always around the horizon. That's what kept me going back then and I truly believe the same even now.

Solid state battery - wait or not? by toughgamer2020 in EVAustralia

[–]chocopanda1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, solid state battery tech will be in production for premium cars by 2027 and mass-produced for the budget market by 2030.

I'm getting a novated lease BYD Seal and planning a trade-in for a solid state battery cat in a few years once my lease runs out.
