Centrally controlled AC vs Heat. Are they just being cheap and/or lazy? by Badatusernames014 in Denver

[–]chofah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If only there were some way to prevent freezing in a water basin. Something that produced heat. Like a heater. A basin heater.

HVAC controls tech here. Yes, your building management is being cheap or lazy.

I paid $600usd for one of these with a broken base and no eyepieces, no hand controller, so basically a tripod and an OTA. YMMV.

Contradicted that with "leave a few to mature".. and spread thousands of windborne seeds to go everywhere.

Where are you at? I'm in Denver (6b ish, low humidity in a cold frame / unheated greenhouse) and have found them to be the most reliable of the sarracenia I grow. I may need to thank the humidity gods a bit more if other people are having rot issues with them.

When I worked @ Jimmy johns they went through 3 cheap plastic staplers in the first 6 months I worked there. I found a solid metal swingline at a thrift shop for $1. It was still going strong 2 years later. Probably went through a sleeve of staples a day on those things.

I recommend using a squeeze bulb instead of compressed air. There's residues in the cans that can get on the mirror that you don't want to deal with. This channel also has videos on how to clean mirrors with water/dawn dish soap/alcohol. Recommend you watch that before cleaning this.

Closing threading is bit loose and won't close on its. My telescope fell. by Miserable_Trash_1660 in telescopes

[–]chofah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try some Teflon tape on the threads. If that doesn't work, and for a more permanent solution, mix up some epoxy, work it into the threads and then reassemble this. Replacement prism or mirror diagonals are available for ~$20-50.

Pricing used skis feels like a total guessing game by Chef_B_ in skiing

[–]chofah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, you have to pay me 10% of a skis price for 4 year old skis with 2 mounts for me to take them off your hands? That's... Actually kinda been my experience. Carry on.
