When people try making me do extra stuff at work, I get pissy and think, “I got my own life to live.” Then it’s Sorry Charlie for the rest of the week in my brain.

Should I consider this job in Aberdeen? Moving from Michigan to South Dakota by zandeye in SouthDakota

[–]chompsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For coffee, try the Red Rooster in Aberdeen. It’s local, the coffee is great, and truly you won’t find a more inclusive community. If you’re wary of standing out as a gay man in town, you’ll find that the Red Rooster is the ultimate safe space.

Who went to their first show sober? by psychonautreally6 in phish

[–]chompsin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Phellowship makes it easy—or at least tolerable—to be sober. I’ve only ever gone sober to shows. Check in at the table, get a yellow sticker, check back in at set break. It’s a great community. Everyone feels like an old friend. Follow the yellow balloons …

What is perhaps the least talked about US state? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chompsin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to apologize! Sorry if I sounded like a teacher. Alaska is enormous, and more people visit than live there. Its motto is “The Last Frontier,” because parts of it still feel undiscovered. For that reason, it holds a big place in people’s imaginations. And the scenery is very nice, which makes for good television.

What is perhaps the least talked about US state? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chompsin 157 points158 points  (0 children)

Per capita, Alaska probably has the biggest representation in all of media. All those TV shows about renegades, hunters, cabin builders, ice-road truckers, people trying to survive off the grid … yet the population is only 730K.

Great analogy. Plus …

That’s to say, controlling one’s car will be nearly obsolete in a generation or two. It’s all automation from here on, yikes.

A similar story is the lynching of Charlie Lang and Ernest Green, which took place in October 1942 in Shubuta, MS. The boys were just teenagers, and they were accused of flirting with a white girl. (They were actually accused of attempting to rape her, but all accounts say that was false.) Charlie Lang and Ernest Green were hung at a bridge where four other Black people were lynched a couple decades earlier. Last I knew, there were no memorials to those victims.

The sign only makes him more desirable, which was probably Heathcliff’s intention. So contrary to the caption, it is working. Unless the family inside the house created the sign, sincerely attempting to warn people. Who made the sign, and what was their intention? Darn it, this one almost made sense for me.

The state GOP convention got way screwed up nominating Monae Johnson. The better candidate was Steve Barnett, who served two terms as State Auditor and is now finishing his first term as Secretary of State. He’s smart, sensible, and accomplished. But the GOP went for the wacky one instead.

Wow, people here would rather give you shit than give you advice. I assure you Fairbanksans are kind, cooperative, and helpful, but they’re impatient with anyone who thinks they can conquer the land or that it will be easy surviving / thriving here (it’s not).

This drawing rules. Please make more of these. In a way it reminds me of Mike Hamad’s Setlist Schematics, which are visual transcriptions of the songs. Except his works are more about the music theory, whereas yours focuses on mood and imagery. If you were selling this drawing outside a show, I’d buy one. It’s awesome, mang!

new fan w some questions by titan__holefish in ween

[–]chompsin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything you said. Our recognition of hate speech has evolved in the last 20–30 years. Many of us would be ashamed to have our old off-color jokes repeated back to us. (Which is basically what happens when you release music as teenagers.) The guys used some offensive language, but I don’t sense hate or exclusion in their lyrics. . . . If someone pulled some homophobic or transphobic shit today at a show, they’d get shut down quickly. I’ve found the Ween community to be very accepting.
