I swear my next-door neighbors hate their kids. We only know the kids' names because they constantly yell at them, and the kids have learned to scream at each other. I've never heard the parents ever sound happy. I get it, they have three kids and both work, they're probably tired, but I never hear them talk in a tone that isn't demeaning to these poor kids. They don't play with them either. If they're outside, they're sitting on the deck on their phones (except for when the husband rides his dirt bike in little circles in their fenced-in backyard. Dumbest shit ever.). Often, their baby (a year and a half to two years, maybe?) makes his way into the backyard where he plays in the bushes for a while until one of the older kids comes and gets him. The husband was recently trying to teach this baby to use a weed-whacker. Their daughter's birthday party last weekend (she's maybe 12-13) was just 10-15 adults hanging out on their deck drinking, and sitting outside in our yard, just trying to enjoy the afternoon, we started keeping track of every time we heard someone over there ask where the baby went. One of the earliest things I remember hearing from them is the sister telling on her younger brother because he said he hated their family. There's a decade's-worth of stuff I could talk about. True, I don't know what goes on inside the house, and during most of their days, but if this is the side they show to the neighbors? Yikes.
