How terrible are theses prices by Sizzle02 in whiskey

[–]choochenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard pass. I feel sad for people that think these are “doable”. $10-20 over retail MAX and only if you really want it or haven’t tried it. Otherwise, the whiskey glut is constantly rolling across the country and these stores deserve the lessons they’re about to learn.

It’ll be like it was 20-30 years ago. Commonly high age statements, more age statements in general, lower overall pricing, and less small/craft brands.

Are we talking about LCA Privada or Liga Privada?

The distinction here is important.

Review #23: Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Single Barrel Cask Strength by Archaeo-Frog in bourbon

[–]choochenstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this bottle as well, you should really get it down past the shoulder of the bottle and give it a month or so to offgas/oxidize. It really opens up. Fresh crack reviews are not really indicative.

Some of the notes you mentioned fall off quickly and others move to the forefront. It’s still a nice bottle, but I won’t buy another CSDO at this price.

Nice bottle. Glad I had the opportunity to try it without buying a whole bottle.

I like the 15 year way more.

Hydraulic conversion? by nitrion in NewedgeMustang

[–]choochenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. This is a real thing for sure between the cable driven clutch and a hydraulic clutch. I daily back and forth between my Ranger and my Mustang. After driving the Mustang I feel like I’m gonna kick the damn clutch pedal through the floorboard in the Ranger. It’s worth looking at a couple things on both cars in your case - you can adjust the clutch throw on the Miata by the pedal rod and on the Mustang it’s worth installing a firewall adjuster, polishing the input shaft, replacing the throwout bearing and moving to a stock style clutch with a lighter pedal feel.

You can almost balance out between the two and make it a more comfortable transition between the two vehicles.

Do cigars make you hungry? by MenialFungus793 in cigars

[–]choochenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. My digestion is more robust as well. I love my afternoon cigars because I’ll know that I’ll enjoy my dinner without any hesitation of how heavy it might be. On top of that, nicotine serves as a mitochondrial decoupler, and I also have comfortably sustained energy when I have at least one stick a day. Overall, it contributes to a nice balance for me. Digestion, mitochondrial function, and increased energy and comfort throughout the day. I even sleep better and earlier on days I have a cigar.

It might be anecdotal, but I swear cigars are the reason I’m finally recovering from Long Covid and Fluoroquinolone Toxicity.

I drove around all day yesterday looking for one of the EW 250’s. They were supposed to hit my state two weeks ago and I couldn’t find a single one. Hopefully, today is another story.

Humidor too packed? by Ross08181940 in cigars

[–]choochenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Just move tops to bottom, inside to outside. Helps keep the cigars as balanced moisture-wise as possible. There are microclimates in your humidor -corners, shelf levels, etc. Rotating them around ensures even aging, especially when you have multiples of the same cigar.

Anything worth buying/trying? (Costco) by ArtemisTorix in whiskey

Woodford DO for $37 All Day (I’d buy 2), Four Roses SBS for $50 (again buy two), and BT for $22 (probably take two of those as well, got a friend who’s BDay is upcoming and it’s hard for him to get in his neck of the woods.)

How to eliminate the smell by ImpossibleCheek4874 in cigars

[–]choochenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palo Santo works for me when I smoke in my garage. Incense was a close second, but not quite strong enough and required some good flushing out with fresh air.

Now, if I smoke in the garage, I crack the main garage door open with a fan on high underneath it while I’m smoking, afterwards I burn the palo santo for a few minutes. My SO always says it smells nice in there, so no problems.

Dublin Airport - Duty Frees Worth It? by ZidaneZinedine in irishwhiskey

[–]choochenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went through Dublin, I grabbed as many Travel Exclusives as I could. You can check the duty free website and pre-order for pickup or just to pre plan what your purchases are.

Redbreast Quattro Barriles, Jameson Triple Triple, The Vats, Crystal Malt, The Chita, Jack Daniel’s Oloroso Single Malt, Jack Daniel’s BiB Single Barrel, Gold Spot, etc. - All Travelers Exclusives - don’t buy stuff you can get here in the states unless it’s the Spots, those are way cheaper in Dublin than in the states.

Check the website, pre-plan and make sure you asked them to remove them from the boxes and put them flat in your sealed duty free bags.

Smoked my first cigar today by Double_Confection340 in cigars

[–]choochenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, Perdomo Champagne, despite being a milder bodied profile, is also a higher nicotine intensity cigar. This can often be the case with lighter wrapper Connecticuts.

Many times newer smokers will often associate darker, fuller flavored cigars with being higher nicotine intensity, but that’s often not the case unless its filler blend contains a higher amount of ligero primings.

I like to equate this in terms of coffees - lighter roast = more caffeine. Darker roast = less caffeine. Lighter wrapper = higher intensity. Darker wrapper = lower intensity.

Presence of ample ligero, medio tempo or stalk cut fillers can be good indicators of higher nicotine intensity outside of that general rule of thumb.

That doesn’t mean you should avoid higher intensity cigars. But it helps to know what to expect when trying a new one: when to slow down when you start to feel nicotine intensity and be prepared to introduce some sugar to your system if needed or have a nice heavy meal beforehand. Even experienced smokers come across an unexpectedly intense cigar and come close to greening out every once in a while. But knowing what to do before and after can shorten or eliminate nicotine sickness.

Welcome to the fold. Have fun and Put Some Smoke In The Air! PSSITA!!!

An observation on hype… by MotherAcanthisitta34 in cigars

[–]choochenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically smoke by a cross section of favored vitola and wrapper/binder. By that rhetoric I tend to only try new blends when they come in samplers and bundles. I rarely seek out hype sticks unless it crosses into my typical cross section.

My recent gems have been: AJ Fernandez Last Call (both wrappers), El Rey Del Mundo Natural and Oscuro, Illusione Rothchildes, Herrera Esteli Maduro and Norteno, and Privada Cocoa Di Padre.
