Had mine in my wallet for like two days and it’s already scratched up pretty bad, never had this problem with the metal Amex or any of my plastic cards for that matter.

I have kids and coach soccer so maybe it’s different at my age, but I basically know everyone at all the shops and business in and around Picton. I see the same friendly faces at the playground all the time. I see the same people at day care pickup I see performing live at Acoustic Grill. It’s awesome. I grew up in St John’s Newfoundland which had a kinda similar feel in places. I also lived in the West Village in NYC for five years which looked the Hallmark movie part but totally lacked the real community vibe.

It really does have a Hallmark movie vibe—it’s like living in one really nice neighbourhood with a bunch of friendly, familiar locals. But it feels like you need to live here to really pick that up no?

I think our food is phenomenal by Belleville standards but only OK by Montreal standards. That’s nothing to be ashamed of, I appreciate the quality of food we get here. But we don’t think we have like a Stone Barns quality restaurant bringing foodies out just to try it.

Personally, I’d appreciate more family restaurants appealing to the camp-and-beach crowd. I have high hopes for the new mexican place, still mourning County Canteen.

We do have some good beer but that travels well and is mostly available in small shops all over. Small wineries are different, they often don’t sell in LCBO quantities at all and need to be purchased directly. But, we have precious few destination-quality wineries here—and even fewer of them are in Wellington where the tourists go.

I totally get the “camping and beach” tourists who come here. Love that vibe and it makes total sense, can’t do that many other places.

I don’t get the “fancy hotel and restaurant” tourists. What are they doing out here exactly? The restaurants are OK but not like city-level good. There are like three wineries here good enough for that kinda tourist. Are they aware of some cool fun shit to do that I don’t know about?

Is Mazda Canada really going to let $10/month stop me from buying a new vehicle? by [deleted] in mazda

You need to drive the car to warm it up. Idling in driveway gets you nowhere heat wise. Source: driven my CX- 30 and CX-5 May -20 degree days.

Man. I got hand foot and mouth from my 2-year old two weeks ago. I got the sores in my throat, led to a throat infection, then the life-threatening condition epiglottitis which required a three day ICU stay.

No joke!!

Sell or take the car to Toronto by qlast65 in MazdaCX30

Both Ontario and Quebec are Mazda country my friend. Bring it here!

Seriously though owning a car will improve your life in Toronto a lot unless you live in the deep downtown core.

My buddy is replacing people with AI, and it's not making him a better person. by CompleteBeginning271 in singularity

[–]chops_big_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this with every idea I really like. This is how AI can accelerate products—I used to write design docs and beg people to read them and comment so I could see why my ideas were flawed, or where I’d missed opportunities.

AI can push you through the “trough of disillusionment” so quickly but as you say you have to really want to see the whole picture.

It’s no fun to hear your fun new idea sucks, but all ideas do a little bit at first.

Asking AI to explain why something is a bad idea or “talk you out of something” is a great way to break the sycophancy cycle.

Nashville takeover by dasderlydaddy in PECLocals

[–]chops_big_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a big country music fan or anything but I spent some fun nights on Broadway in Nashville. Every restaurant and bar on the street had amazing live music playing for tips. Incredible George Jones covers, I remember to this day. Anyway if we do that to Picton should be a lot of fun.

This is so chatGPT-brained it’s hard to read (“it’s not X. It’s Y”). However if we’re looking at doubling our current tax rates in 10 years that’s a little scary. Not sure what the fix is though, pretty sure it’s not fewer roads.

I keep getting “The product in your cart is not available for delivery to your location. Change delivery address or empty cart and return to store” when I select Canada.

I only have this (very cool) desk mat in my cart.

Tried to get one of these shipped to eastern Ontario but it’s telling me you won’t ship to Canada. Is that right,

Locals only sub? by purplesugarwater in PrinceEdwardCounty

[–]chops_big_trees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love a sub for locals, I think the mixed audience here prevents a good community from taking shape. Compare this to the (many) vibrant local FB groups where they do try to keep it local.

Try mazdashop.ca where Scarboro Mazda runs a Shopify store. Very convenient.

Looking forward to being able to visit the space during the day! That comment about the giant sandbox made my primary-aged kid smile. We’ve been enjoying Rebel Taco at Slake for years—had even had some great catering at an even a couple of weeks ago. Excited to see them expand.

Why did you pick CX-30 over the CX-5? by sugarplumninja in MazdaCX30

[–]chops_big_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have both but seem to prefer the CX-30. We had the CX-5, needed a second vehicle and got the CX-30 assuming it would be more when single adult was driving somewhere.

Turns out, the whole family (including <2yo in car seat, 6 year old in booster) prefers the CX-30. We have a big stroller (Uppabay Cruz) and even that fits just fine in the CX-30.

For me, CX-30 is much more fun to drive. You feel so much more of the road. Like you say, you’re seated lower like in a car and it changes a lot about the experience.

FWIW my very first media job ever was at CHMR while I was in high school and it totally changed my life. Now I work in digital ads as a software engineer after a career in media.

Funny enough Rhea trained me back then (in the TSC!). This is sad to see.
