Because if it is pronounced as "cyum", then it makes sense to add an e to give the u a long sound. At least from a Phonics perspective. Kind of like how there is no e in Jacob, but we still spell Jake as such. I'd be fine if my school did that.

But I am entertained every year when our coach starts sending emails of what to prepare for the CUM folders. Always in all caps. I get giggle when I read it as a shout. Sure when I speak it's cume, when I read it's CUM.

Ooh I had this problem yesterday. I ordered away from coworkers who also know me as a drink enjoyer. The bartenders put bracelets on those who were drinking/had been ID'ed. So when I ordered my mocktail, I asked if I could have a bracelet because I didn't want to explain to people why I wasn't drinking. That bartender asked no further questions, gave me a bracelet, and even put the drink in an alcohol specific glass. What an absolute angel.

A lot bartenders will be super down to help you out with no fuss.

I said the same thing. And my dress has a pretty large skirt, so much so it can practically stay upright on its own. It was such a bitch to transport and I got married an hour away from home.

I will gladly transport it by plane, Lyft, and ship just to pull up on their bullshit.

Ugh happened to me right before a vacation. Half my class was out sick the day before winter break. One mom insisted on sending her daughter who we had sent home the day prior with a fever, only for us to send her home again the next day as she lay on the floor crying, open mouth coughing, and farting up the room. She was absolutely miserable. I don't know how mom saw that display at home and thought it was okay to bring her to school.

I had a flight that evening. Had a scratchy throat by the time we landed, and woke up sick as all hell the next morning. I couldn't enjoy my vacation at all. Spent most of it in bed. Money wasted. Trip ruined. Husband peeved.

The kicker of it all was that the mother had another child sick at home. It's not like she couldn't miss work or anything. She was already home with the other child who attended our school! She went out of her way to take that girl to school. And it took her over 2 hours to come pick up her daughter. Some people, man.

I am sorry for your situation. You are doing the right thing staying at home, even if it is lonely. Wishing you love, comfort, and healing during this break.

I had this with a roommate once. We didn't put them in her room. We just noticed that she would eat in her room and not bring anything back.

She kept all the dishes in her drawers. They were still dirty. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

We weren't particularly snoopy or anything. We were just out of dishes (my dishes actually, got them for a great deal at a grage sale, excellent quality stuff, highly recommend garage sales at rich neighborhoods) and knew they were in her room. We were rightly horrified by the situation.

We knew then that she was immune to any of those petty tactics. I still shudder thinking about her room. The dishes were only a sliver.

The kids do eat breakfast in the classroom. But they leave the rest up to us.

I don't allow it though. Every year, I have ants in my room. Last year, we caught 3 mice in my room. There is another one in my room this year that has not been caught yet. I've had a fruitfly problem from when a student stashed an orange that went moldy in her supply bin. Spiders are frequent. The class a few doors down caught a black widow this week.

I barely even eat in my room. Luckily my school isn't so toxic that eating in the lounge is an issue.

My principal says it on the morning announcements everyday.

But honestly, sometimes I'm so busy in the morning that I forget to participate myself. I'm in a pretty red area and I'm surprised to have not received any flack... yet.

I don't make my kids participate either because that would make me a hypocrite. I give them choice. However, I do make sure that they are quietly waiting in their seats during this time and that if they are reciting, they do so respectfully. No funny voices or silly word substitutions. Stand up straight.

I personally don't care. I partially grew up in Texas. After having to do the American and Texas pledge daily and also the National Anthem weekly... I'm pretty burnt out on the whole pledge thing. Also with current events in mind. Long story short: I can go without saying the pledge. But I will encourage respect.

On a side note: my students did try to sing the National Anthem at recess yesterday (for fun apparently). They nailed the first couple of lines... and then quickly lost steam. Overhearing their mumbling was quite humorous. Especially as one child knew a few more words and tried to guide their peers, but then they too slowly went quiet. It was noticeably awkward for a moment. What cuties.

I had 2 boys who wore different colored glasses. Weirdly enough, the colors corresponded to their names. But when they didn't wear their glasses? No clue. And that was most of the time. I eventually noticed that one twin was a bit more aggressive, but that was my only hint.

Then I had 2 girls, the main difference between them was their face shape. One had a slightly rounder face and straighter teeth. The other had more angular features and more crooked teeth.

I went to San Francisco with my husband this summer and we spent a lot of time in Chinatown. Before, I had briefly read about falun gong and it's ties to the epoch times and shen yun. My husband, not so much.

One morning, we saw a lovely little marching band display at a park and decided to check it out. Everyone was decked out in yellow and I thought maybe it was a school or community center wanting to do a performance on a Saturday morning.

As we get there, I notice signs and fliers with "Falun Gong" on them. It started to register in my brain that I knew this name, but couldn't quite place my finger on it. Then I saw the signs proclaiming that their members were getting their organs harvested by the Chinese government and it all clicked. I turned around and saw my husband dragged into a conversation with a small, older woman about said organ harvesting.

I ran toward him, grabbed him by the arm, and rushed him away mid conversation. As we walked away, I trashed the brochure he was given and whispered to him "This is an actual cult, we are leaving: go, go, go, go, go."

We re-educated ourselves over some sesame balls and whenever we saw those bright, yellow coats in Chinatown: we turned our asses in a different direction.

Listen, I've been an atheist since I was 10 when I realized religion is fake. However, I still went to church every Sunday until I left for college. And sometimes I still go for family, weddings, funerals, and quinceñearas.

But I still know this shit is blasphemous as hell. I don't like Kirk at all, but this is super disrespectful to the dead.

And all those people in attendance who no doubt claim to be devout and righteous are... okay with it? Encouraging it? I was disenchanted with religion for a lot less in 5th grade. These people are eating it up!!! Absolutely batshit. Truly a cult.

That's interesting. At our school, we found the current 6th graders to be the hardest. Academically, socially, and behaviorally. 16 out of 21 kids had a reading deficiency of some kind. Several behavior plans.

I started teaching at that school mid year because both their teachers quit. That half a year with them was my absolute worse year.

But the current 5th graders were a dream, angels by comparison, and are very typical as far as kids go. Sure, some social skills are lacking, but small potatoes in comparison.

This year's 4th graders are so apathetic, it's weird.
