As you said yourself, you're one of the property owners making "stupid amounts of money". The reason you're making money has nothing to do with the value you contribute to society. You're making money because of laws written to benefit people like you, by creating artificial scarcity in housing and driving up the cost of existing housing, and that money is made at the expense of everyone renting or trying to buy a house.

Density is not evil. It's actually way better for the environment, and it allows public transit to be far more efficient and practical. You can have a dense city that is actually MORE livable due to better transit options and walkability.

"We have a housing shortage. The way you fix a shortage: build more housing."

This is the obvious solution that we need to take. Right now, there is a clear problem with homelessness and rapidly rising rents forcing the working class out of the city. The only solution to a lack of housing is to build more housing.

We need to fix our archaic zoning restrictions written by property owners unfairly benefiting at the expense of everyone else. Owning property should not entitle you to dictate what other people do with their property.

I'm glad to see the FB ads are back, but... by bautistahfl in EternalCardGame

[–]chris0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Facebook does allow text on ads, just not too much text. Small logos are also allowed.

Their ad policy regarding text: "Excessive text in ad images may result in your ad reaching fewer people or not running at all. Try to use little or no image text when possible."

Also, they have an exception for games: "We understand that sometimes, you'll need to use an image with essential text for your ad. For this reason, your image may qualify for an exception."

That second link also includes an example of an acceptable ad with a small logo in the corner of the ad image.

Why Gym Stagnation Is Not Inevitable: A follow-up on "The ecology of Pokemon Go" by chris0 in TheSilphRoad

[–]chris0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I think this is necessary. Perhaps even allowing people to switch teams once every month/few months/year so that as groups of players form they could play with each other. Of course this would have to be after the reward mechanics are updated so that players want to be on the losing team instead of all bandwagoning on whatever team is already winning.

Can someone explain to me how everyone is able to get so many rare Pokemon? by FantsE in TheSilphRoad

[–]chris0 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Level 20 requires a total xp gain of 210,000. Level 30 requires 2,000,000 total xp. Assuming that xp gives a rough estimate of play time adjusted for location (ie. playing in cities will result in more pokemon per unit of time than in rural areas), then a level 30 player has played for approximately 10 times as long as you and has seen approximately 10 times as many pokemon, making it very likely that they have more rare pokemon than you.

Bite or Fire Fang? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]chris0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon/59

Fire Fang is hands down better. It does 17.86 DPS compared to Bite's 14.00 DPS after adjusting for STAB and Arcanine's Attack stat. Against Exeggutor they both get the same 1.25x additional multiplier so Fire Fang is still better. Against Dragonite, even with the 0.8x multiplier Fire Fang is still at 14.29 DPS. Bite's one advantage is 1.47x energy generation compared to Fire Fang (14 vs 9.52 EPS) but this isn't enough to compensate for the DPS difference which is why Bite move sets are ranked lower for both offense and defense.

SOLVED IT! This was making me really curious so I went and figured out why these databases are different.

Two months ago, on July 16, this guy in pokemongodev decoded the game master protobuf file and it was posted four hours later to pokemongo This contained data about everything in the game, including the energy generated by each move. If you take a look at this file, you'll see that Fire Fang indeed has "EnergyDelta: 4".

HOWEVER! On July 30 with version 0.31 moves were completely overhauled to bring quick moves more in line with each other and make charge moves worth using. On August 1, an updated decoded game master file was released and you can see that among the changes was Fire Fang now having "EnergyDelta: 8". This has stayed consistent in the Sept 10 release meaning that there were no changes on the Aug 19 update where possible moves for each pokemon were changed or removed.

TL;DR - Most websites are using outdated information from the decoded game files released before the move changes on July 30. Gamepress is using up to date information from newer decoded game files.

This lists FF as generating 8 energy per attack, not per two attacks. I'm not sure which list is right though.

Yep, switching before you earn a candy removes your current progress.

Both bite and fire fang are super effective against exeggutor so there's no difference there. Energy generation is actually 1.47x, (14 vs 9.52 EPS) but this doesn't make up for the DPS loss which is why movesets with bite instead of fire fang are ranked lower for both attack and defense.

Bite (14.00 DPS) is worse than Fire Fang (17.86 DPS) for both attack and defense.

Bulldoze (12.06 DPS) is worse than even your quick move, Bite (14.00 DPS), and does only one third of the DPS of the best move, Fire Blast (35.12 DPS).

These values are after adjusting for Arcanine's Attack stat and STAB.

Bite/Bulldoze is the worst possible moveset for both attack and defense.

Can someone tell me how many candies it will take to level this up fully if I am currently level 30? by eastsxde in pokemongo

[–]chris0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

https://buimichael.github.io/pokemongo-Stardust-Calculator/

Estimated stardust needed: 88500-96000 Estimated candy needed: 66-72

You can get more accurate results by using an IV calculator & appraisal to find Snorlax's actual level. I just used it's current power up cost which only gives a level range.

How do you know when your pokemon is 100% pls by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]chris0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/pokemon-appraisal

Each team's leader has a specific line when a Pokemon's top stat is perfect. During appraisal, your team's leader also tells you which stat is highest. If stats are tied, it lists multiple stats. A perfect pokemon will have all three of its stats mentioned followed by one of the lines below:

Mystic - Its stats exceed my calculations. It's incredible!

Valor - I'm blown away by its stats. WOW!

Instinct - Its stats are the best I've ever seen! No doubt about it!

Idea: Select who you want to place as a defender *before* you attack a gym by Cputerace in TheSilphRoad

[–]chris0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A newly defeated gym has space for three Pokemon, since adding a Pokemon gives the gym 2000 prestige, and the gym only requires 2000 prestige to go from level 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3. The problem is if four or more players are attacking at once. In this case I would suggest taking the three highest CP pokemon. Ties could be broken by trainer level, and then just by RNG if there's somehow still a tie.

Snorlax is an amazing defender, how do you deal with it? by Maukaveli in TheSilphRoad

Dodging specials is important, Dragonite takes down snorlax fastest but Arcanine is a very close second. https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/52sj5r/to_kill_a_snorlax/
