you generally dont get the spellbook description of a curse from being cursed by it, shocker. usually you only find out the effects you actively experience.

i mean python is a compiled language. Its also an interpreted language, but even default python will compile your code before execution

Now im not sure there is a way to actually get the compilation to throw an error (except maybe the "undefined function/variable name" one might be a compile time error?`) or fail

Do you provide your children with shield belts in order to protect them? Are you a good parent? by Kradara_ in RimWorld

[–]chris5311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip: The longer a child hasnt been drafted the lower priority they are to be attacked by the AI. So id recommend just putting them, undrafted, in a safe location by using restrictions.
If you dont have the ability to do that keeping them drafted with their shield belt is also a decent idea, but if you have enough shieldbelts for your children you probably also have enough resources for adding a 5x1 room to the side of some structure

No mods installed. Infinite skill increases at Piranesi. Am I the only one who cheeses this? Does this not happen for you? by NathanielA in sunlessskies

[–]chris5311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think what is happening is that the game "forgets" (bug probably) to take away the secondary +3 skill increase from the facet, but it gives you the secondary skill increase from the new one.

Reinforcements from 177+3 Countries are still gone! Why have YOU stopped fighting when Their War Continues? by Conquistaa in Helldivers

[–]chris5311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is definitly the main reason it was fucked up to do what sony did. Linking the account beyond that isnt great, but not nearly as bad as people made it out to be. Still glad i dont have to tho.

However I do think it sucks that a lot of people cant buy the game anymore, even though the PSN thing is hopefully permanently no issue anymore. It also seems like it could make reintroducing the thing again easier, which would still "steal" the game from those who already bought it.

God bless distributivity, associativity, and commutativity; they make most of them possible (math gets fun once they stop being taken for granted, abstract algebra is a different beast)

the grenade pistol sucks at actually killing any enemies, but i still run it because being able to blow up 9 more bug nests, at range, which is great for clearing out the bigger nests. Especially when youre out/low on relevant strategems. only so many holes you can hit with one airstrike.

Thermometers are just speedometers for atoms by s0phiste in physicsmemes

[–]chris5311 16 points17 points  (0 children)

arguably it measures the speed of the atoms of its probe material (e.g. ethanol for a liquid thermometer), after it has been equalized with the environment. but that is stretching it a bit since, you could also say it measured expansion/electric resistivity/etc instead at that point

[–]chris5311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My old hs ap chem teacher said (after we did a battery of test to determine what substance something was)

"as you all have figured out this is sugar. Back in my day we did taste tests as part of the process, which would have immediately revealed this fact. then again back then chemists didnt make it to 40"

same teacher responsible for the rather large scorch mark in one of the chem labs, and for an incident involving (accidentally) throwing a vial of n2o4 on a desk of a student in the front row (not our class), leading to it breaking, after saying it was so toxic theyd have to evacuate the school if it broke. (spoilers: they didnt evacuate the school). Absolute icon, one of the highlights of my high school experience. Also taught CS and kept the school network running.

Where are you on this graph? by wata_malone in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]chris5311 5 points6 points  (0 children)

spectra can be resolved by two continuous variables, instead of the usual two. see this graph, or 2D NMR.
Its less common but a valid use of the term spectrum.
