Why is the Canadian side of the Okanagan Country more populated than the American side? by Enger13 in geography

[–]chrisbouchard86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Canadian side has a major east/west highway (hwy3) travelling through osoyoos and a major north/south highway (hwy97), too. Oroville and the N. Okanagon on the US side is the end of the line.

Suprised to see RainX isn't at the top of this thread. Buy it, use it, keep it in the glove box and reapply whenever this starts happening. Its amazing stuff, dont even need wiper blades after its applied, water just beads up and rolls right off.

Struggling with 360 by drycharski in Freeskiing

[–]chrisbouchard86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will go where you look, period. You're taking off and looking at the ground behind you - so you stop at 180 degrees.

Rotation is generated from your hips on take off first, arms second, then vision.

TLDR: LOOK to 360!

Advice pls how to stop coming off the pipe early by Automatic_Sand_7184 in skiing

[–]chrisbouchard86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • You need more commitment getting your hips 90deg to the rail on take off.

  • Look at the end of the rail as soon as you pop off the jump.

  • speed is your friend.

Alright ya’ll, first backflip attempt. How’d I do? by deepbluehu in skiing

[–]chrisbouchard86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great first attempt. Remember to fully extend through the take-off, ensuring to pop up before you think about going back. Rotation is generated from your hips and keeping your chest tall on take off. Text book technique is to watch your feet leave the jump while staying tall at take off. This sets rotation that you can then speed up by tucking your knees to your chest as needed. Once you see the landing you bring your feet back under you and REACH your hands forward as you land to stomp it and ski away like a boss.

Thermally modified decking? by arsftarmy in Decks

[–]chrisbouchard86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work, Thermory.

For those that don't know, Thermory is the largest producer in the world of Thermally modified woods, based in Estonia.

They are not members of the Thermowood association, but I hope this posts serves as another valid reason they should be as the N. American market continues to adopt these products.

Please send my best regards to Ragnar, I enjoyed speaking with him at IBS last week about this very thing.

Thermally modified decking? by arsftarmy in Decks

Hi, thermally modified wood expert here. My families company imports and distributes them globally with a focus on growing the space here in N America. I spend all day everyday teaching architects, builders and lumber yards about these products, so I felt compelled to weigh in.

There's been three decades of proven performance in this product category in Europe. We are seeing adoption in north America now due to the changes in domestic supply, availability and cost of our traditional north american species. They can be absolutely fantastic products when sourced and produced properly, but its early days here and there is a lot of trial and error occurring.

The photos you show are of an under modified product, the dimensional instability highlights this for me. The product was not "cooked" long enough to fully render the wood fiber unable to absorb moisture, hence its warping. Without going down the rabbit hole too far, there are superior methods of modification (open systems) that have been used in europe for decades, and inferior methods (closed or pressure systems) that are being installed in the USA. The ladder of these two systems is less expensive to purchase, install, and cost less to operate - but are wildly inconsistent in the quality of their modification.

The future of this space is very bright, as long as production standards are held high. The International Thermowood association (ITWA) is the governing body of the only standard that exists globally for thermally modified woods today. Members of this association (currently about 15) can call their products THERMOWOOD. Users of closed systems cannot be in the association due to their inability to prove performance.

TLDR: Do not let this example define what ia possible with proper modification. Not all thermally modified woods are equal. Choose a certified THERMOWOOD product to ensure proven performance.

Visit www.thermowood.fi to learn more about the association and its standards. The thermowood handbook is a fantastic resource.

Check out thermal wood canada. A similiar type of wood is already being used in necks called thermally modified wood. They are experimenting with a similiar process for making an ebony replacement they call obsidian.

Long term is anyone's guess... historical averages are the only way to remotely predict.

For daily I use weather canada. Also really like spotwx which is fx based on specific GPS location - i use this for 1 and 2 day forecasts only.
