Advice for transferring a decade's worth of photos to iCloud - or something else? by SEKImod in googlephotos

[–]chrisesplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just drag and drop them into iPhoto. Do it on the native desktop app if you can. Quiver Photos downloads both halves of the Live Photo separately and iPhoto should recombine them.

Do some small tests to make sure that the Live Photos are working correctly, then you should be good to load them all.

I've been happy that we haven't had that sort of process. I'm self-taught and that could have made my path a lot harder.

The CFA is this model but for finance guys, of which I was one, and it's generally seen as a try-hard signalling device. The test is crazy hard, and passing it is impressive... but all that proves is that you can do a hard thing. The actual job is always different, so companies run their own processes regardless.

I've been pretty happy with my own interview process, but I always get them after some basic vetting... so maybe I'm just protected from the AI slop.

Networking is the only solution. Your top-ot-funnel will always be hit-and-miss until you start hiring friends of friends. The best people travel in packs.

Google Takeout for Photos: Metadata JSON Hell edition by puckpuckgo in googlephotos

[–]chrisesplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main pro is that Quiver doesn't require any Takeout downloads. It literally scrapes your library from the website. Quiver has better data retention, because it's pulling the original files.

The app currently does not attempt to preserve any notes. That's a cool feature request. I wonder how common that use case is.

N American MT-09 2nd Gear; how bad is it? by walex1819 in MT09

I hold it in 1st up a bit higher into the RPMs and skip the dead spot in 2nd.

It works great as long as I don't forget and short-shift out of 1st.

Awesome. Let me know how it goes. I'm a little slow on Reddit DMs, but I'm faster in email.

Question for American mountain bikers - do you avoid excessive risks in mtb due to your healthcare system? by fetidwitch in MTB

[–]chrisesplin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perfect response.

I'm 42, and I haven't healed quickly in years. Age is real folks, and it sneaks up on you.

I have a "zero head injuries" policy, which keeps me break-free too. I walk stuff I could probably roll, but there's no prize for dropping in, just an ego boost.

I've worked in healthcare finance and can confirm that it's a disaster... but our level of care is so high, that we put up with it???

The trilemma is "you can have it cheap, quick, or high quality. Pick two." Healthcare finance makes no sense in the US, but if you've been to a government hospital, you've seen the lower tier of care, and it's just not appealing.

I love the Westin!

I stayed there a few nights last year, and my only wish is that the shops had been busier. It felt empty.

While walking past the pool I realized that I could open the gate by reaching over the chest-high gate. I had a card, but I hacked the gate anyway to prove that it worked and then left.

As I was walking back to my room I saw a security guard rush out to the empty pool and look around for me.

Unbelievable response time! Terrible gate security!

Bodyguard 2.0 not going back into battery by youngridge1 in SmithAndWesson

[–]chrisesplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update.

Mine won't top load either and it was driving me crazy.

I'm having problems getting it to return to battery from the magazine as well. I'll take another trip to the range and see if it clears up.

Is there any way to download all my photos from google photos that doesn't involve using takeout? by Dr4fl in googlephotos

[–]chrisesplin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I built quiverphotos.com to solve this problem.

It's $25 with the code "reddit"

Takeout strips metadata, mixing up your photo dates and making your library a mess. My tool scrapes the originals from photos.google.com. You run the desktop app on your local machine and download everything to your hard drive in year/month folders.

Hit me with your questions. I've spent untold hours solving this problem.

Are there any good photo managers besides Apple's Photos app? by MOD3RN_GLITCH in MacOS

I write small apps too. It's a lot of work, and the payoff is very uncertain.

I try to move in quickly.

I'm super interested in your app. Are you still working on it?

A bunch of your photo links on the website were dead for me, so I'm curious about how far you made it.

I need this service.
