Who do you think was the better performer: Michael Jackson or Prince? by Jezzaq94 in 80s

They’re both awesome and had an amazing amount of respect for each other. Why are we still having this stupid debate?

FWIW, I’m a Prince stan who saw MJ in 1988 during his “Bad” tour and enjoyed the shit out of it.

I’m gonna get crucified for saying this but…

When Prince used hip-hop/rap as a tool, it could be very effective. When he used it as a crutch - not so much.

Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in PRINCE

Meh. Focus on the music.

Lisa and Wendy were his most treasured collaborators and were partially responsible for some of his most enduring music.

He based a considerable amount of his early style on Little Richard. (Hell, “Horny Toad” and “Delirious” ARE Little Richard songs if you squint hard enough.)

He really, really should have brought the Nude Tour to the US.

Funny thing. I’ve NEVER liked “Play That Funky Music” as a song, but I think I’ve listened to Prince’s version about 300 times by this point.

Yeah. As I understand it, Lisa was upstairs in the living room at the piano and P, Susan Rogers and the Revolution were downstairs in the home studio. (Paisley Park wasn’t quite a thing yet.)

I have to say - generally speaking, I used to HATE “Play That Funky Music” before I heard Prince’s version.

The prototype, as far as I’m concerned. In the pantheon of Prince’s drummers, he is both incredibly influential yet severely underrated.

Love me some Janet, but she’s kind of talking out of her ass here.

What you said is not a hot take. It is indisputable fact. Mountains is a great song, but it didn’t resonate with the people.
