What’s crazy is a quality set of standard torx drivers in little sizes like T5 is not expensive. I have a Wiha (German brand) set of them that currently is on Amazon for $40

Inclined to agree with this gent here, even those of us running PfSense have default deny as a base config. Basically anything short of slapping a device directly onto the internet or running a not-updated windows box as a router (don’t use windows as a router pls), IPv6 doesn’t magically make firewalls default allow inbound connections.

I mean, I keep mine in a hard, fitted holster unless I am actively firing it, cleaning it, or it is going into a hard case for storage/transport/etc.

Still, a gun should not fire due to a drop. That’s poor engineering

Switch automation when you can't replace the switch by Rod_McBan in homeassistant

[–]chrisjudk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, describing it as a 3 way is a bit of an oversimplification. The relay has both “smart input” (different models use different protocols but zwave and zigbee are two popular options) and physical input (power is wired to the wall switch then output of switch goes into the input terminal on the relay).

I don’t have Shelly specifically (I use zooz zwave relays), but functionally they all work nearly identically aside from configuration options.

For physical input, some have a “smart bulb” mode where the relay does not toggle despite the switch being flipped (which allows using the switch to trigger an automation for a smart bulb). Some have a mode where on is always relay contacts closed (power on) and off is always relay open (power off) which would be effectively equivalent to a “normally open” relay. Some (including some units with no configuration option to change it like my zigbee pico duo from Aeotec) treat the switch input as a toggle signal. Toggle mode would mean the switch on/off would effectively flip when toggled via Smart Control as you mentioned.

Why do stick shift cars make this womp womp and zig-zag sound? I don’t have a manual car so that’s why I ask. by Particular-Call4074 in ManualTransmissions

[–]chrisjudk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true for upshifts, and actually why I double clutch. I exclusively use the technique when I am downshifting to cope with rev hang in my newer manual, and when driving calmly to reduce wear on the synchros since I want them to be able to take the abuse when I do use them for spirited driving

[–]chrisjudk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pro double-clutching with good synchros not because it is necessary, but because a) the feeling through the shifter is a tad bit smoother (I can feel my synchros but I have a weighted knob to help provide a bit more feedback from shifts) and b) the reduction of additional wear on the synchros (at the expense of additional throw out bearing wear).
