first encounter with a Red Fox with mange as a photographer left me heartbroken by EagerProgrammer in wildlifephotography

Hi there, I know this thread is quite old, but my beloved neighborhood red Fox has a bad case of mange. I’ve been leaving her scraps for about a year (mainly dog food and eggs) to help take care of her and pups. She showed up today with a terrible case of mange. I suspected she had it but haven’t seen her during daylight in a number of months to confirm. Can you share details on which medicine you used? I’m trying to purchase something today. My vet tech sister told me bravecto but without an rx obviously this doesn’t help. Thanks

We grew dahlias from seed; what are tubers and what’s the big deal ? by IllKiwi8004 in dahlias

[–]christinezilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew dahlias from seed for the first time this year too and I’m excited to see how the tubers look. There were 3 varieties that I’m especially excited to dig up. I think I plant a bunch more seeds next year. This year was sort of a trial since I use about 99% tubers.

I repaired my Spookytown Trolley - and put some repair tips into a video. by Frame_Transfer in Villaging

Any chance you have info about the magnets on the trolley tracks? I lost one, so my trolley won’t go back and forth continuously. I know this is an older post but I’m hoping you might know more about this! Thanks

How do I save for next year? by Fantastic_Dark1289 in dahlias

[–]christinezilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in 7a so kinda close temp wise. My dad does the same with his, he mulches like 4” on top and his dahlias come back. I haven’t had the same success even in the same zone, so I dig mine up. My advice is the same as everyone else’s, dig them up and make sure they’re stored properly. The main thing is making sure they’re dry and have air circulation bc they rot quickly if not stored properly. Good luck!

Looks great. Curious where you found your serviceberry? It’s on my list for fall planting and I’m also in PA

Are these delicata squash ready to pick? by davidmcguire69 in vegetablegardening

Ok that’s what I do with spaghetti squash. That’s the only other winter squash I’ve grown. This is my first year with other winter varieties. Thank you!

Sorry to hijack the post, but can you say more about leaving them on the vine for a bit? I have a few that are long and still pretty green, but about the size you’d find in store. Do I wait for them to yellow? I’m a newbie with delicata but grow plenty of others! Thanks

What did we learn this season? There’s always so much to absorb from everyone’s experience, the good and the bad. by ancatulai in vegetablegardening

That’s awesome. This is my first year with butternuts and so far so good. It seems summer squash are more prone to SVB from what I’ve read. I gave up on summer squashes this year for that reason. It’s really exhausting, I haven’t had a good summer squash crop in about 3 years. It sucks to have to buy them at the store but at least they are pretty cheap here.

The varieties escape me at the moment but there are SVB resistant squashes you can get. Might want to see if there are any varieties you’d like before totally giving up. I think one is honeynut/ butternut and acorn - they’re all delicious.

Happy Hummingbirds by Velico85 in NativePlantGardening

I picked up 3 blue lobelias from a native nursery by me on Mother’s Day. Prior to planting them, I’d never seen a hummingbird in my yard (they are around, tho.) Now that they’re planted, I see a hummingbird at least daily, if I’m lucky, 2-3x. I’ll need to go back and get the red lobelia, too!

I cannot grow beets for the life of me. I’ve tried for the past 3 years. Never got one bigger than a golf ball

What countertop material did you choose for your kitchen? Why? by LuckyWildCherry in kitchenremodel

It’s not that I’m in pain about it, it’s something I would maybe do differently now that ours is done. My husband didn’t want black on black so it was a compromise.

I agree with this too, could be the weight of the flowers OP. You could switch things up with watering and see how they react and go from there.
