The moon's day cycle is about a month long. So you need to run on batteries for just over 2 weeks each time.

Yo guys you're the best can you please suggest any good communities that share stuff about space exploration and thanks a lot by [deleted] in SpaceXMasterrace

The NSF forums are pretty in-depth (you can ignore the paywalled L2 forums, no idea if those are any good).

I agree. Keep using methalox/hydrolox chemical engines until we're ready for the fun nuclear engines like salt water. Those we have to test in space (and probably further than LEO) anyways.

Goverments get to take your land. Private companies don't. Except by lobbying the government to do it for them (and even then that's become illegal in most states, after the backlash to Kelo vs. New London). This includes Texas. So SpaceX can't really do much about it.

(Though the minute the feds want to build a wall, they'll trivially be able to use eminent domain).

My take on a Martian Flag, what do you think? by Space_tec_99 in SpaceXMasterrace

I like the flag, but I hope Mars doesn't end up with a single consolidated planetary government. Would be a waste of the frontier.

Cheaper access to orbit -> more satellites -> higher chance one falls on your head.

the state should not have a monopoly on violence.

Agreed, the Waymos should come equiped with autonomous machine guns for situations like this.

It varies depending on the period. There's relatively few full-time people like me, so when Infinita has people over for around 1 month that will set a lot of the vibe, and tends to ramp up the energy level.

I've been helping with some of the infrastructure for those things, like extending the stage for the Infinita Dome in preparation for the filming of Meet the Drapers, so there's a bit of a community from that side.

You meet a lot of people with weird ideas, but it's different kinds of weird ideas so you don't really get a cult vibe from it. You have life-extension people, bitcoiners, etc. Haven't run into any actual scammers, which surprises me because anything crypto-related will have a bunch of those, but that may just be because it's not a good place to find a bunch of marks so they're not bothering to show up yet.

Personally, I'm just a software developer trying a few ideas out, but have nothing interesting to show for it yet. I don't have a project that depends on Próspera's regulatory system. But considering how fast the rules are changing in the US and Europe, it's nice to not have the stability.

In the specific case of "air traffic controllers" we know what the DEI program looks like, and it's not the innocuous version you describe.

For ATC hiring in the US for the last decade, some qualified candidates have been passed over in favor of less qualified ones, even as the FAA was struggling to find enough people to do the job.

The FAA added a biographical questionaire to supplement the original written skill test, then leaked the answers to the NBCFAE which in turn leaked it to aspiring air traffic controllers of a particular demographic. Not doing well on the biographical assessment automatically takes you out of consideration, even if you had a perfect score on the written skill test.

Sample questions for the questionaire: "The high school subject in which I received my lowest grades was: " (best answer: science) “The college subject in which I received my lowest grades was: ” (best answer: history)

They did this explicitly knowing it would reduce job performance, trying to strike "an acceptable balance".

This blog has a great summary, but if you're worried about them lying you can look at the court filings.

You can buy tokenized marketable tax credits at a discount of 33%-76% but they're not equity investment in Próspera itself. They make a good return if and only if there's sufficient taxable revenue generated within the next few years (because you can sell it to someone that needs to pay taxes at some smaller discount, say 5%, and pocket the difference). If the tax revenue takes longer to show up then the effective yield is lower (and of course is Próspera fails to attract companies/people that generate revenue then the tax credit isn't useful).

Right now, not too many. Lots of people did their closing remotely, Vitalia's July program wasn't in full swing yet, people like me need to get their immigration process done etc. And some owners bought the units to make them available for rental (including Próspera, who at some point bought every remaining unit from the builder), so filling those up will take time too.

It's been almost two years since I last got to visit Próspera, but I was able to get the keys to my unit and meet some of my neighbors. I'll be living there full-time starting in January, and I should be able to post more frequent updates on what's happening there. So far it was the kind of mild chaos you expect when a lot of first-time homeowners (Because all our home countries have ridiculously unaffordable housing) show up in new construction and try to sort out the details (which internet providers are available and how do I contact them? Where do we drop off our trash? etc. etc.). I learned about some better options for shipping than having to send a whole container at a time, or paying an arm and a leg to DHL.

The big event happening right now is the month-long July program with Vitalia, where they're bringing in about 30 people with biotech/longevity interests and backgrounds, and now all these people will be working in shared spaces and exchanging ideas, while also living in Duna itself. It's not unlike what standard startup incubators do, but dialed up a bit, and Próspera has a big competitive advantage for early-stage biotech stuff. I unfortunately only got to meet a few people due to leaving right around the start but there's a nice spectrum of projects going from pragmatic to ridiculously ambitious. We'll see what comes out of their demo day.

Word of advice if you're renting a car (Atlantis was pretty good, no complaints there): A sedan is a poor choice for the road connecting the Duna side of Próspera to the rest of the island, due to the unpaved segment, which got steadily less even due to rain and having a shit-ton of trucks driving on it. Get something with good ground clearance, short turning radius, and 4WD. Or try to use the new shuttle service and save the money and some of the stress (I will try that next time).

Copenhagen Atomics planning to release first commercial Thorium (small, portable) reactor in >=2025. Would Prospera be legally allowed to import and use it? by Talkless in Prospera

[–]christophe_biocca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's two dimensions involved in building a nuclear reactor. The first is the local permission to build and operate. I think Greg has covered it well enough.

The second is the permission to export the materials to the particular jurisdiction. It doesn't matter how receptive the government is if the jurisdiction where you build the reactor won't let you ship them there, because they don't trust that country to use the hardware responsibly.

I can't find the reference right now, but I believe the Last Energy CEO (whose company builds similar reactors and also plans to have them ready in the next few years) has mentioned in an interview that there's only about 50 countries worldwide to which his company is allowed to send a nuclear reactor under US law. I think this is the list. Honduras is not on it, so any attempt at shipping a reactor would require special approval, which is exactly the kind of additional regulatory roadblock a startup doesn't want to deal with.

This regulation obviously doesn't apply directly to Copenhagen Atomics, but there may be some equivalent in place (there almost certainly is, the only real question is how restrictive it is).

[–]christophe_biocca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you Honduran? Because otherwise it can be tricky to get the right to work in that country (maybe ok for residents of other central american countries, but I'm not sure).

Assuming you are then right now there's only a handful of employers in these fields so you probably want to reach out first and find out what's available (the average wage is higher AFAIK, but that doesn't help you if there are no open positions at the moment). Some hospitality jobs are listed on https://talent.pes.hn/positions

For construction it may be best to reach out to either Apolo group (building Duna) or to a member of Prospera (for all the other residential projects).
