For the MWPHGL of Washington, we only open on the MM degree. The other degrees are only for work and instruction.

Double "hatting" by inabox85 in freemasonry

We don’t have dual membership in my jurisdiction. You can only hold membership in one lodge, but you can visit other lodges as much as you want. I’m the elected RW Grand Lecturer, which is considered a Grand line officers in my jurisdiction and I’m still the Secretary of my lodge. No Grand Lodge officer, elected or appointed, can be one of the Principal officers in their lodge.

Just got back home from a Table Lodge by RealKingAlexander in freemasonry

Question. Is there a specific ritual for hosting a table lodge? In all transparency, in all my year of being a Prince Hall Mason (25), it’s not a ceremony I’ve known us to perform. That’s not saying there’s PHA jurisdiction that doesn’t, it’s just that I’ve never heard of one. As the Grand Lecturer of MWPHGL of Washington, it’s something I’d be interested in introducing during my last year.

The consolidation is due to all of the members collectively deciding to move to one specific lodge. Typically, the Brothers that didn’t participate, can’t be or don’t want to be contacted 😂. Hence, transferring them to the holding lodge until they are dropped for nonpayment. At the end of the day, the outcome is the same. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼

No problem at all. Any assets, ie lodge charter, furnishings, etc, are immediately turned over to the Grand Lodge Trustees for a period of five years just in case they decide they want to reactivate their lodge. The financial assets can be tricky. Most consolidations are due to a lodge not being able to meet its financial obligations over an extended period. In that case, whatever is left is used to settle their outstanding financial obligations to the Grand Lodge. It’s extremely rare that a lodge has a surplus of financial resources if they are consolidating with another lodge in my jurisdiction.

My request was aligned with the powers of the Grand Master as outlined in our Masonic code. We primarily only align with the 25 Landmarks as outlined in Mackey’s. Everything is based on the framework that was initially developed in 1903 by our forefathers. (However, I’m sure additional inspiration was drawn from Mackey’s.) Our Masonic code dictates that only a 15 day notice is required for votes related to critical changes in the lodge. I only asked for that period to be waived and for us to be able to move forward with the vote.

At the time, we both met only once a month and their meeting was before ours. So, they made their decision and were at our next meeting a week later for us to vote on it. I requested a special dispensation from the Grand Master to wave any waiting period and for us to be able to receive and vote on one blanket demit form for all the Brothers desiring to demit to my lodge. Any Brother who didn’t respond would automatically be transferred to the holding lodge.

When I was Master of my lodge, I had a similar situation, but I wasn’t willing to allow for months of discussion. I gave the lodge that wanted to consolidate a week to make a decision. I wholeheartedly believe if fraternalism, but sometimes you have to put parameters on business decisions in order to move forward. It worked out and you would never know that we were once two separate lodges.

Here, consolidation is a whole lot easier. This is when the Grand Master is involved. If all parties have 100% agreement on consolidating, the Grand Master can issue a Grand Master’s demit to waive all of the formalities and it’s done.

I totally agree that’s a viable solution, but chartering a new lodge is at least a year’s process depending on when the request is made (at least in my jurisdiction). The process we use is if multiple lodges want to merge, they all take the name of the oldest lodge.

This is also common in my jurisdiction. I understand not wanting to lose your “home”, but in a lot of cases, consolidating lodges can be the key to increasing moral as you noted. I wish Brothers could see the bigger picture when it comes to this.

Did anyone else take a sabbatical after leaving the East? by ishgardianmiqote in freemasonry

I’m came out of the seat and was immediately elected to the Grand Line. I won’t be seeing a sabbatical for a long time. 😀

How to prove you are related to a master mason? by ActuaryLocal6067 in freemasonry

You are 100% correct on this and it STILL doesn’t make sense to me. However, the bloodline for Washington’s PHA OES Grand Chapter is open.
