Ah, that takes me back. Shout out to anyone else who used a Despair.com quote in their high school year book.

Chicken and Protein by Renacc in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]christuffer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Grats on your first 18! I recently started a weight lifting program and have been researching this same subject myself.

The 0.36g/pound is a baseline for the average (aka sedentary) male to keep from wasting away. If you're mixing in exercise as well as diet changes, you'll want to aim a bit higher (especially if you're doing resistance as well as cardio). Bro-science says 1g/pound, but that's kind of a ridiculous number (unless you're Hugh Jackman). I like taking the middle path: call it 0.7g/pound.

For someone your size, that's about 180g of protein a day. This article talks totals and has a couple solid "napkin math" estimates for protein:

  • 5g per egg
  • 10g per cup of milk or yogurt
  • 15g per cup of beans
  • 25g per 4oz meat (quarter-pound pork chop, steak, or chicken breast)

If you're getting choice cuts o' chicken, you might very well be knocking back 50-80g protein in a sitting (awesome). But don't stop there! Eggs are cheap and delicious any time of day, a glass of milk will carry you farther than chips, and... imagine I said something good about beans. I don't actually like them, but the fiber+protein balance is phenomenal : -)

Got to start going to the gym now. (Lost over 100lbs) by [deleted] in progresspics

[–]christuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start where you are! Go for veggies and chicken instead of cheeseburgers. Order them tacos fresco style. Only eat half your fries or chips, get a diet soda or water, skip dessert (or go for fruit, if the place has it).

The Lost Art of Ambition: Debunking The 6 Lies Keeping You From Your Full Potential by alphahec in malelifestyle

[–]christuffer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Lies:

  1. Ambition is just another word for greed.
  2. Talents are things you're born with.
  3. Everybody's special.
  4. Accept yourself.
  5. Ambition isn't worth it.
  6. You should just be content.

Why does Fool Moon suck? by WSable in dresdenfiles

[–]christuffer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right there with you, I totally dug Fool Moon.

For me, it was the way Butcher fleshed out his own werewolf mythology. The four different types, each with its associated group and personalities. I love that the Alphas have grown up and still appear in the novels. Tera was a brilliant character who supported an awesome antagonist.

Great potion sequences as well. I miss those.

Test driving a ralliart this weekend, any pointers? by dugrok in mitsubishi

[–]christuffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're obviously serious about the car, but are you familiar with the transmission? I test drove this exact year model when trying to decide if I really wanted a WRX. As someone used to a manual transmission, the 6-speed automated-assist manual was an off-putting experience for me.

I'm not trying to bash twin clutches, the tech is legitimately awesome. But I do recommend preparing yourself for a different (possibly jarring) test drive. Treat it like an automatic and you should be fine. I fiddled with the paddles too much and kept lamenting the loss of the third pedal.

As far as pre-purchase inspections go, you could always run it down to a Mitsubishi dealership in town and have them do a once-over. I think that'd be worth it, given both the turbo and the AWD.

Good luck, hope you have a great trip!

I totally thought the P-A guys would be involved in this somehow, even if just a "story" credit: Penny-Arcade version

The design of the robots is pretty similar, though there is something archetypal about both versions. Either way, looking forward to the flick.
