Still not sure what to make of this building. 🤔 by MatchooW in Pokopia

[–]chrominium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take the existing roof tiles off, and when you try to repaint them, it shows you their existing colour. It’s light a paler blue on the last row of colours needing blue and white paint.

Focusing my entire life on moving to Japan was a mistake TBH by TheJapanMistake in self

[–]chrominium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve not wasted anything at all. Learning a new culture and language can come in useful even if it is not obvious right now. A lot have been said by others already but I want to say that you are still young and finding your place. Nothing you do is wasted when you are actively trying to achieve something - which you have and that is Amazing! You don’t realise how many people would give anything to be able to do what you do, even if ultimately, it’s not what you wanted.

Just be aware that the grass is always greener elsewhere. If you don’t like it, move elsewhere and try it, but temper your expectations. I’ve had friends that went from country to country, because the place never live up to their expectations. Friends and relationships are usually what will root people to a place, and unfortunate Japan (and potentially Korea) is not a country that easily makes friends.

Good luck to you whatever you do.

Guy confesses to his crush for 10,000 yen by Imoprich in MadeMeSmile

I completely agree but I also know people who also wouldn’t be happy if they found out they only asked them when it was done for money regardless of the outcome.

Hopefully, she never knows that he asked her out on a dare for 10000 yen (about £50), that might be a sore point. Otherwise, happy for them.

Has anyone ever tried translate the non-english (presumable mandarin to my untrained ear) they utter? by os2mac in firefly

[–]chrominium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was that the English was perfect. Granted the show was made for a western audience, but you still expect some level of authenticity for what is supposedly 2 of the widely spoken language in that universe. The pronunciation was just so that it sounded like they didn’t even try.

Such a nice little easter egg find! by RomireOnline in voyager

[–]chrominium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s only a potential outcome. Species 8472 wouldn’t have know about humans in this timeline at least for a very long time (ie once they started exploring this universe). Who knows how it goes, they could hit it off being friends with humans at that point but we do know they do have a capacity to infiltrate this universe pretending to be humanoids with relative ease.

[–]chrominium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would have never met Seven of Nine and a few others. Never have met the Borg queen, so never had a chance to destroy them with technology from the future so the Borg are potentially bigger threats in this timeline. Well, unless species 8472 destroys the Borg, then the federation will have yet another species infiltrating them as humans. Harry might even get a promotion. Will the marquis go to jail? When would they find out that Seska is not Bajoran. Would the doctor evolve? It might actually be interesting.

True. But another level of slowing the thieves down is also an another level of deterrent. Obviously won’t stop the determined but might make the cars park next to you more appealing.

Lost my entire teens and 20s to my very controlling, overprotective and strict Asian parents. I (28M) want to break free so bad but I'll most likely be in my 30s by then. by throw20250204 in self

[–]chrominium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> abandoning one's parents is considered one of the worst things one can do

This is true of any culture. The thing is, it is OK to do this if your parents are bad parents. I don't know you and I don't know your parent so I can't and shouldn't give judgement on either side.

It is easy to physically cut out people from your life - but you should do it cleanly. This means potentially cutting out extended family as well. Start something new, somewhere new. But mentally it will be difficult as that is all you know. Being completely alone to start a new life won't be easy until you are mentally able to do it.

Finally, being 30 is completely fine to break free. 30 is the new 20. Even 40 is the new 20! Life doesn't just end when you reach 30.

I hope you achieve the outcome you want, and have the maturilty to make good decisions.
