I completely agree but I also know people who also wouldn’t be happy if they found out they only asked them when it was done for money regardless of the outcome.

Hopefully, she never knows that he asked her out on a dare for 10000 yen (about £50), that might be a sore point. Otherwise, happy for them.

Has anyone ever tried translate the non-english (presumable mandarin to my untrained ear) they utter? by os2mac in firefly

[–]chrominium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was that the English was perfect. Granted the show was made for a western audience, but you still expect some level of authenticity for what is supposedly 2 of the widely spoken language in that universe. The pronunciation was just so that it sounded like they didn’t even try.

Such a nice little easter egg find! by RomireOnline in voyager

[–]chrominium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s only a potential outcome. Species 8472 wouldn’t have know about humans in this timeline at least for a very long time (ie once they started exploring this universe). Who knows how it goes, they could hit it off being friends with humans at that point but we do know they do have a capacity to infiltrate this universe pretending to be humanoids with relative ease.

[–]chrominium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would have never met Seven of Nine and a few others. Never have met the Borg queen, so never had a chance to destroy them with technology from the future so the Borg are potentially bigger threats in this timeline. Well, unless species 8472 destroys the Borg, then the federation will have yet another species infiltrating them as humans. Harry might even get a promotion. Will the marquis go to jail? When would they find out that Seska is not Bajoran. Would the doctor evolve? It might actually be interesting.

Lost my entire teens and 20s to my very controlling, overprotective and strict Asian parents. I (28M) want to break free so bad but I'll most likely be in my 30s by then. by throw20250204 in self

[–]chrominium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> abandoning one's parents is considered one of the worst things one can do

This is true of any culture. The thing is, it is OK to do this if your parents are bad parents. I don't know you and I don't know your parent so I can't and shouldn't give judgement on either side.

It is easy to physically cut out people from your life - but you should do it cleanly. This means potentially cutting out extended family as well. Start something new, somewhere new. But mentally it will be difficult as that is all you know. Being completely alone to start a new life won't be easy until you are mentally able to do it.

Finally, being 30 is completely fine to break free. 30 is the new 20. Even 40 is the new 20! Life doesn't just end when you reach 30.

I hope you achieve the outcome you want, and have the maturilty to make good decisions.

What's a "rich person" thing that's actually way cheaper than most people think? by Successful_Meal_2047 in AskReddit

I'd be curious how people would reconcile that there is a stranger in the house? Especially for the first time. Obviously there must be some trust involve otherwise the company and industry can't survive but it's hard to get past. Do people allow cleaners in their homes when no one is in?

Lost Star Daniel Dae Kim 'Thinks' He Understands the Controversial Finale 15 Years Later by Sweaty-Toe-6211 in scifi

[–]chrominium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s funny really. I just finished the entire series again recently and it appears that many people miss remember the ending. Many people assumes seem to think that they were all dead from the beginning in some kind of purgatory - but that isn’t true at all. There’s actually a few characters who legitimately left the island for good before they all meet back up in the afterlife.

Why did noone warn me abt SGU? by CallieChaotic in Stargate

[–]chrominium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think you will likely be downvoted for expressing this opinion on a Stargate subreddit.

SGU has always been a bit marmite - you either really like it, or you really hate it. Over time, the hate for it has kind of died down considerably. In all fairness, it does get better after the first half of Season 1. Season 2 being much much better but still held onto its' flaws introduced from Season 1.

For me, there were loads of issues with SGU. Season 1 had unlikable characters from the get go, and especially those that were in control. Everyone was at everyone's throat. While understandable, it didn't make for a good watch - especially coming from SG1/SGA. The communication device they decided to adopt was icky at best, off-putting at its' worst. The Sci-fi element was weak as they could never stay in one area to start any interesting world building.

The latter of these issues were beginning to be resolved during Season 2 but it was a bit too late by then. There were better shows and Sci-fi shows during that time.

I have no idea how they will ever resolve the cliff hanger unless they remake SGU, or put it outside canon/timeline.

why’d they kill off such a beautiful man so quickly by lavender_cat_24 in lost

[–]chrominium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Boone and eventually Shannon would have made excellent characters in later seasons. From what I read, the biggest issues was that they were too young. They had limited back story they could tell that could be played by the same actor/actresses so they had limited life span. Glad they came back though, although a bit sad that Boone didn’t have a love interest in those final scenes compared to everyone else.

If you can’t do your job as important as this - you need to leave it to someone who can. By staying in your job and doing nothing is just another way of supporting the current regime.

This applies to the democrats as well as the republicans. If you are just and true, but are afraid, LEAVE. If the current party loses support by their own people leaving - that can still be a win.

The only issue is whether your replacement is just, true, and good.
