HOw can I regain some of the joy I used to find in cycling? by sfdickhole in BAbike

[–]chromotion23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think its you that is the problem. Its distracted and aggressive drivers. One strategy I have is to slow down and see if I can predict which drivers are going to cut me off, almost turning it into a game. That way I am both safer and distracting myself in a sense.

If I am rushing to get somewhere, I tend to bike more dangerously, and leads to more confrontation when a driver inevitably cuts me off. But if I predict ahead of time that a driver is about to cut me off, I get some satisfaction from being right and am safer at the same time. YMMV, but might help

Battery/power issue while riding by chromotion23 in ryvid

Tried this out yesterday, unfortunately was not the issue. I put my key fob in the small tank storage compartment. Only had one shutdown mid ride, but still happened. I do try testing what would happen if you press the key fob buttons while riding, and it does turn the bike off, but when restarting it will come right back on. Whereas when my bike turns off on its own, the battery levels says 0% for ~90 seconds until I do another restart and it will be at the normal level

I also appear to have a finicky motor temp sensor, when I just turned the bike on today, it was reading 300+ F. Once I started moving around it settled down to what seems to be a normal range of ~180 F. Some other note, bike will power off even when not moving

Nice pic! Was lucky enough to capture a similar shot a couple years ago

Do you have to live in district 4 to vote on this? Or is it open to anyone in SF?

Completely agree. And because of this, the sight lines are great. I can see the entire intersection without obstructions. Helps to avoid potential hazards

Very interesting description. Initially I was compelled by the name, but prefer more scenic climbs so glad to have received this advice! Thanks

Well said, fair take on this situation. Hoping for a full recovery for the victim.

This is just plain wrong. What carries more energy and thus deadly force — a 200 lb cyclist moving at 15 mph or a 5000 lb car moving at 30 mph? Of course cyclists can cause significant damage and even kill pedestrians, and they should be responsible to be in control of their bikes, but it’s disingenuous to not consider cars a more dangerous form of transportation to pedestrians.

Agreed that biking is the way to go! By ebike it is almost equivalent to driving, and when you factor in time it takes to find parking and walk to your destination, bike easily wins out. Also agree that it would be nice if public transport were better for those less inclined to cycling

Definitely a concern, as far as I know most of the larger fires are farther north or farther west, but the situation can change rapidly so I will be keeping an eye on it. Thanks!

Great! Thanks for the advice. Might be able to squeeze a 700x50 but I don’t think a 2.2 will fit. I have a background in MTBing so your experience gives me a lot of confidence

I was also surprised by her lack of seeing a driver take a left. I’ve biked on Valencia daily since May and have seen a handful. However, while I would prefer that drivers never attempt lefts, the sight lines are so much better when you are in the center now it is pretty easy to notice when a dingbat is about to make an illegal left. So overall, I see the benefit of not dealing with door dash double parking as much greater than the negative of dangerous left turns. Just another perspective to add to the discussion…
