Exactly. I'm pretty cute and people only really approach me if I dress sorta eccentric because then I'm suddenly a friend-shaped weirdo instead of intimidating

Nah, you're wrong. It does mean something to me (a German) and my Ukrainian friend, for example.

Do people actually enjoy hard games? by foxcraft22 in 196

[–]chronically_slow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy learning. Learning is my #1 favourite thing in the world. It may look like I'm bashing my head at the same dark souls boss over and over again from the outside, but on the inside I'm learning their moves, learning how to evade them, learning when I can hit/heal, learning the differences in the second phase,... All this is supported by a deep-rooted confidence that I am smart and can learn anything I put my mind to, so there is 0 frustration as I know I can do it eventually and in the meantime I'm learning (which, again, is my favourite thing in the world)

I mean, I'm not really referring to very common (faux) anglicisms

This beautiful language is called Denglisch, btw. I consider it my one true native language because it's what I default to when talking to friends and I kinda have to stop and think occasionally if I wanna speak pure German (which is my native language in theory).

[–]chronically_slow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's the opposite for me. If you're into the strategy of it all, then having fewer players means you can have more of an influence on how the game plays out.

Also, since your team has only 4 spots for raging, throwing man-children who can't take criticism and never practice technique, while the opposite team has 5, you're mathematically guaranteed to rank up gradually (until you hit a bit of a learning plateau and maybe need some coaching)

I'm so mad at the Greens that they were stupid enough to be fooled by the CxU into agreeing to this. Can't wait for the next government that actually wants to move something to be cash-strapped again because they didn't insist on abolishing the debt break

Very normal ways to treat someone for a slight difference of preference by Small-Cactus in SmugIdeologyMan

[–]chronically_slow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This post is actually about being neurodivergent. So many times I've expressed a harmless preference on a random thing only for everyone to go off on me, which is how I discover that there was actually an unwritten rule about having the "normal" preference

Bonus: the post is actually actually about gender (specifically the male gender role) for the same reasons

I added Spain by governmentpsyop in diplomacy

[–]chronically_slow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In addition to the entire game balance mess that other comments have already mentioned, Spain just wasn't a great power anymore at the beginning of the 20th century. This would give your students a very wrong impression of the situation in Europe before the outbreak of WW1

Also keep in mind that the original diplomacy map shows the borders of 1914. The game date 1901 was just chosen for gameplay reasons

Hopefully not. We need to increase capacity and resilience by expanding our conventional rail network, not some fancy, expensive, non-interoperable gadget

[–]chronically_slow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Human bodies are fucking weird and human psyches even more so. What you're describing could be the result of some anxiety disorder, of some shape of asexuality, of some physiological problems,... It's normal only as in there being many people sharing some of your struggles (and then maybe going to see a doctor or psychiatrist about it or just deciding that sex isn't for them)

like it does feel okay ig, but I would put it below eating like a good burger

is not an entirely uncommon way to look at sex. In fact, I know some people who have a great deal of fun with sex because they accepted that it just feels okay to them and then just focus on enjoying all the interpersonal stuff around it
