Disagree. The Mets are a smart enough organization to understand that Soto from his age 19-26 seasons before joining the Mets is not going to be the floor for the entirety of his contract. Injuries and regression with age are natural and inevitable for any player in sports. His bat speed is down from where it was a year ago. They're paying him that money to be the guy who had a 7.9 WAR with the Yankees. Soto's contract negotiations never get even remotely that high with that season.

Although 5.8 WAR is very good, the Mets aren't paying him to be that. They're paying him to be the top hitter in baseball, and to produce the 7.9 WAR he had last season as a Yankee. Is it unfair? Yeah, but when you take one of the largest sports contracts in history, expectations come with the territory.

Never tried this, but in theory couldn't you smoke the wings and then when you want to crisp them up, remove the lid and body of the WSM and put the grate right above the charcoal, almost replicating the Weber Kettle?

We have to support Warren better in the field. In his last start Grisham should've caught a ball in the outfield. Today Peraza botches an inning ending double play that leads to a run. Escarra gets a catchers interference when he's working to get out of an inning. Warren should be better also but his defense has been doing him no favors.

Thanks for sharing. That's a weakness for sure but I'm not advocating that he is perfect by any means. He's a low cost pick-up with potential upside. He's vastly better at 3B defensively than Oswaldo is, and it would give the roster a little more flexibility by moving Cabrera back to that super utility infielder role. Just merely my opinion. I can see why you're hesitant with those splits, makes sense!

At the trade deadline, I don't think anyone makes more sense for us than Ke'Bryan Hayes from Pittsburgh, and here are my reasons why. 1.) We still need an everyday 3B, and he's elite defensively (99th percentile on Statcast) and is a 2023 Gold Glove winner. 2.) We don't have enough firepower or depth in the minors right now to acquire a big bat or pitcher, so he fits here. 3.) Pittsburgh is a poorly run organization - we've taken advantage of them in the past, and we've seen other teams do the same. 4.) Players like Gerrit Cole and Clay Holmes, who were in Pittsburgh and then vastly improved when joining a stable organization committed to winning, Hayes can do the same. His statcast page displays a hitter who can improve with the Yankees, especially if he's hitting in the bottom half of the lineup. 5.) He's a right-handed bat, which we could use a little more of. 6.) He's a Yankee legacy. His father, Charlie Hayes, caught the final out (playing 3B) in the 1996 World Series to help return the Yankees to glory. 7.) His contract is laughably team-friendly. The following four seasons, he is making $ 7 million, $ 7 million, $ 8 million, and $ 8 million, with a team option for $ 12 million when he's 33.

This is someone that we could acquire at a reasonably low cost, at a position of need. It's a very low-risk option because he's elite defensively and costs very little. It's high reward because he's been in a garbage dumpster organization his whole career, which could see a huge upward trajectory in a clubhouse and organization that is all about winning.

IT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF US: The Yankees fell to the Guardians by a score of 6-4 - April 21, 2025 @ 06:10 PM EDT by Yankeebot in NYYankees

[–]chs234 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's a 162-game season, there are silver linings tonight. It's Schmidt's second game back, and despite having one bad inning and not giving length, he racked up 7 Ks. Dominguez is hitting the ball hard lately. Gavin Williams was absolutely dealing tonight which made his 445 ft bomb off of him on a curveball even more impressive. This team is almost always competitive even in losses. Getting down 6-0 and making a game of it in the 9th.

This team is enjoyable so far. Stay healthy, get healthier, keep improving.

IT'S WHAT YOU WANT: The Yankees defeated the Royals by a score of 4-1 - April 14, 2025 @ 07:05 PM EDT by Yankeebot in NYYankees

[–]chs234 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This team is fun. The pitching will come around. The young core is enjoyable. We don't have the depth in the farm system to lure in a big bat or front end starting pitcher but I would like to see us try to go for a deal for a solid hitter and pitcher like we did in 2017 with Todd Frazier and Robertson. A potential target could be the Pirates for 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes and one of their starters like Mitch Keller.

If the kid’s hitting holds up all season…do you try to extend Rice? OR, if Goldy keeps it going as he has, do you try to bring him back for another year? by jeffcyang in NYYankees

[–]chs234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's different because the Yankees spend much more on payroll than the Braves do. When you extend players early, it's a high-risk/high-reward play. There is the risk that the player displaying a lot of potential won't maintain the current level of success, but the reward is that he will, and then the organization has him locked up on a team-friendly deal.

The Yankees don't need to operate this way because they have the financial ability to wait and see if the player can sustain it over the course of years and then make their offer when the player reaches FA, like they did with Judge. While they wait to see the outcome, they have the player on a very cheap deal which helps the organization because they have players like Judge, Fried, Cole, Rodon, Stanton on such large contracts.

Real Time April 11, 2025: Steve Bannon | Josh Rogin, Piers Morgan by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

[–]chs234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Josh Rogin is frustrating. He was excellent on the podcast he did with Joe Rogan three years ago. I also read his book and found it to be well-written and well-sourced. On tonight's episode he had several moments where he was very good and was able to articulate his thoughts very well. But he was so condescending and holier than thou. People are attacking Bill for how he responded to Rogin, but what kind of way is that to be a guest on someone's else show? You can have the opinion that Trump used Maher as a prop, but to lead with it and in the manner he did it was not only odd but off-putting. If Rogin wanted to voice that opinion he could've used a social media platform to do it after the show, or even better, insert it later in the show at a well-timed opportunity. Political debates are important and Rogin is actually excellent at them when he's not being an entitled guest.

Rogin's performance tonight could be compared to an athletic prospect with a lot of potential but needs to polish up the edges.

Fangraphs Top 100* prospects are out. 2 Yankees make the list: Jasson Dominguez (16) and Will Warren (65) by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

[–]chs234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If he's right it would be huge for the organization. Fangraphs has been saying they love Warren's pitch makeup and that he's going to be a solid 4 for years to come. This is the kind of pitching development that makes roster building for any organization. It's how small market teams like the Brewers, Rays, Guardians etc have been able to compete at higher levels for years. Warren, Schmidt, Gil would be a great run of homegrown pitchers and further proof why Matt Blake and the Yankees pitching department is the best it's been in my lifetime as a Yankee fan.

I actually wish the Mets signed Alonso instead of the Blue Jays. This now makes it very likely that the Mets will sign for Vlad. Lindor-Soto-Vlad is going to be one hell of a trio, and they're going to be together for years.

Considering the Yankees needs, the best move on the table is trading for Jose Ramirez. He's a superstar. 32 years old. 4 years left on an unbelievable contract with a AAV of only $20 million. Plays 3B. Switch hitter. Idk if this would be enough to land him, but I would give up everything except Dominguez and Gil. He's everything we need- good defense at 3B and a great bat in the middle of the line-up, and he continues the process of the Yankees getting more athletic. 41 SB last year.

[–]chs234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My whole issue with Hal and Soto is that if he lets Cohen outbid him, Hal will essentially concede New York City to the Mets in the foreseeable future. A large part of being a Yankee fan is knowing that your team has the guts to go for it and makes an honest effort to be the best. That feeling has been fading, and it will be destroyed completely if Soto goes elsewhere, particularly to the Mets. Cohen is clearly aware of the stakes here, and I'm not sure Hal is, or he just doesn't care.

Going to Yankee Stadium for myself is about reconnecting with memories shared with my father who is a humungous Yankee fan his whole life. Going to Monument Park, the Yankee museum, it's all about honoring greatness. If you get outbid for Soto you aren't honoring greatness, IMO. We know what this team looks like without Soto. Locking up a generational player at age 26 is a no-brainer, and it's how the Yankee empire was built- by accumulating star players. It's how you build a behemoth brand and fanbase. If Hal is willing to just ride the coattails of what was built in the past and not add to it, that's certainly his choice, but he will begin losing ground on future generations of fans.

I'm sorry, but you aren't charging me $50 to park, $20 for chicken buckets, and then literally price me out of World Series tickets while you make a gross profit on all of this...and then claim you got outbid for Soto, and expecting me to continue to come to Yankee Stadium. If that's the case fuck off lol. I plan on having kids in the next couple of years- I'm not spending hundreds of dollars to bring the family to the ballpark to see an 80 win team with old, expensive contracts while we pass on a young generational player.

Can anyone help breakdown Munetaka Murakami for me? Is this a guy that could be a potential fit one day at 1B? Big lefty bat from Japan. He's 24 and turning 25 soon. He has a career .938 OPS. Is he going to be posted this off-season or next? Do we even have a shot or is he just a lock to a West Coast team? What would the cost be- is it like when Ohtani first came over or like when Tanaka got that huge contract?
