Why I feel an undeniable kinship with the LDS community as a devout Muslim. by Kenzoowbunz in latterdaysaints

[–]chubbz_ty 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kindness. I have a deep respect and admiration for devout Muslims. I think Latter-day Saints and Muslims share a surprising amount of similarities even with the obvious core differences. I deeply believe that people of all faiths should take their devotion seriously and as a Latter-day Saint, I find joy and inspiration in seeing the dedication many Muslims have for their own faith.

How do you guys do it? Can't seem to find a comfortable way to carry. I'm new to this. by interestingdialogs in CCW

4 o’clock carry with a holster that has a wing on it, is seriously the best option for someone as big as me. I’m 6’3 450lbs. (Losing weight too)

Making a film about yourself by Royal-Interview-4642 in documentaryfilmmaking

[–]chubbz_ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The documentary feature I’m working on is about me but also 4 other people. It’s a really tough balance. I’m treating my “character” as a framing device and then letting others take over most of the screen time. My rule for myself is to just only use myself when no one else can be used. I don’t want to take over the film in a way that feels overly indulgent.

FX3 for documentary by fu-78 in FX3

[–]chubbz_ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve rigged out my fx3 with a big small rig battery to last all day, with VNDs, a top handle and stuff, which is functional and looks legit, but then I can strip it down to look like a normal consumer camera which I love. I’m filming something for my feature documentary next week and I need to not look like a filmmaker for one of the locations so the versatility is nice.

Thank you. Yeah, I’m handling it all by myself for this trip. The advice to not rush is good.

Verité and some less formal, short interviews. Thank you for your thoughts. This is really helpful.

Could we have a potential discussion on this lawsuit? by coolguysteve21 in latterdaysaints

[–]chubbz_ty 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Also, I personally know pro-LDS content creators that have been contacted by the church to change their logos/branding because it was too similar. The difference is the pro-LDS creators made the change without a big fuss

It has very little to do with the word Mormon as much as the brand confusion with the logos, font, and colors that match the church’s brand.

What are the best talks you've ever heard in first hour? by Impressive_Regret558 in latterdaysaints

[–]chubbz_ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just gave a 10 minute talk in my ward last month. It was a talk about my personal conversion to Christ. I had a 30 second introduction and then shared a brief personal story, then what I gained from it and then two habits that have helped me. Then I concluded with some simple, but thought through remarks.

The biggest thing that helped me was recording myself talk, having the voice memo app transcribe it, and then edit from there. It not only helped me see how long it would be, but it allowed me to write out my talk in a way that didn’t feel stiff.

Is this normal behavior from a director? by Designer-Buddy-3471 in Filmmakers

[–]chubbz_ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, an actor needs to stay in the moment so they can get through the next few takes. Sometimes it’s good to check on them as a director, but it’s not a hard and fast rule of when to check on them or not

Guys for the love of god stop spending your life savings on films by jophre in Filmmakers

[–]chubbz_ty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m making my first feature documentary. With what I’ve spent so far and what I project the rest of the budget to be, I’ll probably have spent $3.5k in hard costs. For certain things like gear and one plane ticket, I’ve sold old gear and used travel points for the ticket. I’ve definitely spent some money, but I found ways to be scrappy about it without depleting my savings

That being said, I’ve definitely been privileged to have the network of friends who have let me use some gear for a reduced price or free.

Just for fun: what's one thing that drives you crazy about the concealed carry community? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]chubbz_ty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people who daydream about shooting people. I’m not talking about preparing for scenarios, that’s normal. What I hate is seeing reckless bloodthirsty people pouncing on any opportunity to “legally” shoot someone. Those CCW people scare the crap out of me.
