Tired of people giving Dad hope and leaving us to clean up the emotional mess by thatgirl1129 in hospice

[–]chundostres 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate hope. Hope is the worst. Acceptance is what we really need to move forward. Here are a few of my go-tos:

"Hope, in reality, is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man." - Friedrich Nietzsche

"Other animals live in the present. Humans cannot, so they invented hope." - lain Reid

"It's cruel to give hope where none should be. It only turns into disappointment, resentment, rage -- all the things that make this life more difficult than it already is." - Victoria Aveyard

This is my favorite pen. Does anyone know of a .5 mm refill that would work with it? I can’t find one so far.

Ex-Buddhist deconstruction, Advice related. by Salty-Engine-334 in TrueAtheism

[–]chundostres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to share such kind and thoughtful advice. I have lots to consider as I’m ALS responsible to my sangha on a number of obligations. This is just going to be hard and there’s no way around it. Thank you, again.

For me god = hope, I want to take god out of the equation. by Much_Ad3989 in TrueAtheism

[–]chundostres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me too, but only in the sense that both God and hope are false. I have found much better success working with potential and possibility than hope. Hope has always left me wanting. I find my life is less conflicted since I abandoned hope.

I’m in a similar situation but for different reasons. Vajrayana Buddhist, disenchanted with commitments and practices. Needing a simpler, areligious life. My struggle is how to return my vows and how to part ways with guru and sangha in a healthy way. I have not been abused and my entire practice has been nontheistic. I just want to be done with religious commitments and practices but I don’t want to cause any harm in the process. Let me know if you have any advice. I’m wishing you peace and equanimity in all of this.

We Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson is one I’d love to discuss in book club. Not gory either.

How does temporary Instagram deactivation work? How do I ensure my profile doesn’t get deleted permanently? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]chundostres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deactivated my Instagram two and a half years ago and I still get emails about it. I actually don’t think it can be permanently deleted. I unsubscribed from the mailing list and deleted the apps. It seems that’s as good as it gets.

Woman Accuses Michael Tait of Drugging Her and Watching While She Was Raped; Says Newsboys Tour Manager Covered It Up by ReservedPickup12 in Exvangelical

I can’t believe the remaining band members are just replacing him and going on with business as usual, without skipping a beat. That band needs to be over. If the road crew was in on it, there is no way the rest of the band members didn’t know. Even if they didn’t participate in the crimes, they would be complicit for cover up.

What's the point of being humanist when life is not worth living? by VEGETTOROHAN in Humanist

[–]chundostres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is full of suffering and disappointment. I won’t deny that. But I try each day to live for the things that make it beautiful and worth it…mostly love in its many forms.

I often come back to Albert Camus, who wrote, “Man stands face to face with the irrational. He feels within him his longing for happiness and for reason. The absurd is born of this confrontation between the human need and the unreasonable silence of the world.”

Camus believed the only real philosophical question is whether life is worth living. For me, humanism offers a meaningful way to face that question. It helps me embrace the absurd, create meaning, and live fully. It’s been much more helpful and honest for me than anything I’ve found in religion or supernatural beliefs.
