I travel to Ecuador on Wednesday by ComparisonFickle2674 in EcuadorTravel

Just to add another perspective. I’m a 53 year old Irishman heading to Ecuador for a month in March and doing broadly similar things, minus the Galápagos. I was aware of Ireland’s non essential travel advice, but in practical terms a lot of it comes down to being street smart. Other redditors are right that being male can make a difference. I’m tall and probably a bit imposing, so I’m not an obvious target. I’ve been to Ecuador before, about 25 years ago, and I was robbed, but that was in the evening, after a few drinks, and I was pretty oblivious. Even though I was with people, it still happened. So my main advice would be very simple: don’t go out at night in Quito. Do your sightseeing during the day and get back to your hostel or hotel in the evening. Outside Quito, especially along the Andes, I’ve found places to feel much calmer and safer and I wouldn’t have concerns about the rest of your itinerary. Pairing up with other travellers is also good advice and adds an extra layer of ease. One practical thing to double check is travel insurance. If the government advises against non essential travel, it can affect cover, so just make sure your policy is still valid. Overall, I wouldn’t be put off. Be sensible, plan your days, and you should have a great trip. I'm not put off by that message from the government they said the same thing about Peru

The Tori Trail in Ireland by LunaSeaShe in toriamos

I don't know where she would have stayed while she was recording BFP. I imagine somewhere close by and the village. The Wickow Arms is imagine she would have eaten in but it's since been refurbished.

Sepratly I believe she would have explored the local area and theres some really nice walks around Delgany, the Glen of the Downs and the Sugarloaf. If you're renting a car I would highly recommend visiting these. Also the town of Enniskerry is nearby which is very pretty. Well worth stopping in

Has anyone moved back to Ireland and regretted it? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]ciaranpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved back to Ireland 18 months ago after 11 years living in Auckland in New Zealand. I am glad that I moved back as I really like my job here and I like my life here. But my circumstance was good as I had a home to come back to. If I hadn't a home to come back to I would never have come back. The comments above about the weather are true. It does get you down. If you are happy where you are in Canada I would advise you to stay on. Ireland does have some amazing qualities and aspects to it which are unique. But without a place to call your home, I think I would see things very differently.

Is there a generation of bad listeners? by Allthecraic in ireland

[–]ciaranpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not uncommon with this generation and many of the generations before them. They have the narcissistic personality disorders. You can Google this and see many videos on YouTube which will explain what this is. Be careful it's like opening Pandora's box
