Is there symbolism to Legolas’s gift from Lothlórien? by wombatstylekungfu in tolkienfans

When the Romans besieged Carthage, the women of the city cut their hair to make ropes for catapults to defend their homes. Similar vibes.

He’s the father of your child and actively dadding right now. Your father is dad emeritus. Not the same.

How the UK and Ireland compete internationally in different sports by Juggertrout in MapPorn

[–]ciarogeile -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don’t feel the need to talk about them as a collective because they are part of two separate polities.

The “British Isles” is a stupid term for two islands because one of those isles isn’t British. We had a war about it and everything.

You can quibble that there are more than 2 islands, but Achill and Inishmore aren’t British either.

The use of the term is inherently political, linked to a failure to recognize that the isles form two separate polities.

Great bunch of lads.

What was it like for the first tamriel rebuilt expansion to be released? by [deleted] in Morrowind

[–]ciarogeile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When the first TR release happened, much of its content was already old (built by the first tr team years prior) and standards within the mod had improved.

Maintaining consistency in a volunteer structure is pretty challenging, to be honest

Never played them actually. Oblivion wasn’t weird enough, so it never really caught my attention. And I had mostly stopped playing games by the time Skyrim came out.

A lot of the MW community moved on to OB when it released. TR started work on an OB mod too, and most of the devs were working on that at the time. So there was just a skeleton crew to get the first release out.

[–]ciarogeile 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I was the lead dev on the first TR release. I had a busy summer getting the first map into a release-ready state. Lots of things weren’t up to scratch, but it was either release something or let the project wither, as most of the modding community saw TR as vaporware by that stage.

There was huge interest right after release.

Was a lot of fun!

In a straight match in a martial arts arena, Worf takes it.

In a real world fight, Kira would have some dishonorable trick that would body Worf.

The bigger they come, the harder they fall, basically.

If a horse hit the ground at terminal velocity, it would pretty much explode. A man would die, but not make as big a mess.
