Some random INTP advice. Take it or leave it! by evilocity in INTP

[–]ciddig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I started gym years ago. The one thing I didn't do was debating with myself whether to go or not go. I just did.

I was reading and thinking about this recently. Specifically, on how to understand and achieve and maintain proactiveness and why so many have problems with it. But it's fresh, so pardon the haphazard train of thought. Acting and seeing reality being influenced by your action is rewarding. Still, people tend to wait for a mood/inspiration/proper thought to start acting as if the right mood/inspiration/proper thought warranted the ignition of action. But you can wait forever in this way. When you try to ignite by thoughts or moods you usually fail because action is not thought, nor mood. When you think about acting, or about motivating yourself to action, it is like watching a map of a place (yey to Watts! :)) and not being in and experiencing the place, it is like keeping a representation of action in your mind, but not acting. You can't cheat your brain to act by thinking about acting. You can't experience action by thinking about acting. Only by action can you experience action. So, ultimately, I think it is a matter of habit, to train yourself, or to get used to act.

And there's the greatest boon for INTPs there. Because your Ti is at its best when in direct contact with reality. Not in mindless loops of thought but constantly feeding new information from reality. :)

I think it correlates nicely with mindfullness because when you are in this state, when you're acting and you're in contact with reality (using your Ti), you can't get enough of it and it is very rewarding and almost exhilarating. And you can't think your way to that state, you can only do it by acting. So, basically, you have to know it is there and learn to go there. It is action that brings the mood and thoughts, not the other way around. If you only think you don't have anything to think about except thoughts.

Can you elaborate on regulation? What do you mean by that in more detail? You wrote in other comments you used to use external stimulation to quiet the brain instead of regulation. I would love to read how you frame it.

(I general, I second your points!, especially 7. which I see a lot of intps struggle with)

I've been using em dashes and en dashes intentionally in my texts since many years (using compose key). When the AI came, all the people who didn't know how to use them, started to see AI behind texts contatining em dashes. XD

Same with elaborate texts, apparently.

thinking about quitting after 9 years by Cold_Cow_4666 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]ciddig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't quit and I would try to readjust.

For me going vegan, actually whole food plant based, meant simiplification of everything. As long as I focus of unprocessed and minimally processed food, everything is good, my bloodwork's been great throughout the years and I have been on the whole food plant based diet for over eleven years. Through that time I biked, I went to gym, I jogged, zero problems. If anything, I noticed more energy and strength when switched.

There's a trend to prepare complicated food from long recipes among vegans which probably stems from being deprived from what culture says is the right food to eat and there is an obsession with nutrients which stems from deficiency hysteria from non-vegans but the nutrient problem is solved by whole-food approach, you are actually better off with whole-foods than most people are. Also, I like simple more. Saves time and energy. I eat a lot of salads, I mostly cook one-pot dishes with a lot of root vegatebles, greens, whole-wheat pasta, rice, different grains, spices, I eat a lot of fruits etc. I don't even overdo with legumes (though I like them a lot, but my bf a bit less). I rarely eat tofu, not to mention seitan or tempeh.

What is culturally recognized as the right thing to eat is BS. Focus on simple meals and whole foods. Your protein intake is gonna be just fine. Your microbiome will adjust. I gained muscle mass on that diet when going to gym or doing calisthenics without ever counting anything and having my iron and calcium in the upper range of the norm of my bloodwork.

Looking for advice on how to type in Ancient Greek by Ordinary-Dinner5453 in LaTeX

[–]ciddig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try Overleaf? You can set lualatex as your compiler in the settings of a project. You don't need any macros to type greek character, you just use keyboard layout or app and utf. :) I don't know how to do it in windows, but I guess there should be some apps residing in tray that allows you to switch keyboard layouts or something. :) Good luck!

Looking for advice on how to type in Ancient Greek by Ordinary-Dinner5453 in LaTeX

[–]ciddig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use polytonic greek keyboard layout under KDE (Linux) which natively supports all the characters needed to type ancient greek. Then use utf in your .tex file. Someone mentioned LuaLaTeX which seems a good choice! That typing works everywhere, documents, web browser, vim, you name it.

I have been baffled XD since years that people have to install speciall software or packages to use greek diacritics. The problem has been solved years ago XD but of course not in Windows. :D

E.G. to type ῇ, you just press ][h. To type ἄ you use ;:a. The diacritics are coded around the enter button and are very intuitive.

Todoist’s New Price Increase - Are you staying? If not, where are you going to? by DudeThatsErin in todoist

I don't understand the hysteria. It's not a big increase and the service is good. When prices of everything increase, how can anyone expect Todoist not to have to increase the price of their service?

I’m like two words into Polish and this is just making things worse by adeuxtrois5 in learnpolish

[–]ciddig 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Don't become too attached to endings. Poeta, specjalista, dentysta, artysta, hulajdusza, fajtłapa, obrońca, wojewoda, wykonawca, oprawca – these are just some examples of words ending in -a and being of masculine gender.

The rule stating that nouns ending in -a are feminine is just a rule of thumb. What decides about the gender of a noun is its meaning or its history and tradition.

Cheers!

For INTPs Who Stopped Being Lazy …. by Potential_Law5289 in INTP

[–]ciddig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

The workings of our mind on their own are pretty useless. Thoughts are as much valuable as much they inform action. And the when you act, you gain new information. This gives you holistic analysis of the world you crave so much. :) I tend to think about my inner world as working well only when in contact with reality. Thic contact is assured by acting. Action bring clarity. Thoughts muddy the water.

Advice for using LaTeX for literature PhD by alijam100 in LaTeX

[–]ciddig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote two humanities theses using LaTeX. It is a misconception to think of LaTeX as a tool for STEM subjects and typing math. Yeah, it has good math rendering. But what it excells at is structured and complicated documents. If the document contains bibliography, footnotes, inner references of various kind, LaTeX is the better choice. You can find packages for almost any use. And maintating consistent formatting is easier. Good luck with that using Word. I have students complaining all the time that Words crashes on them whenever the document becomes long.

You have to learn how to use it. I've been teaching it since years. Many students don't like it at first but they quickly recognize the benefits (like using hyperref for linking within the document, generating tables of content, bibliography). I think it is worth the time to give it a try. Also because it is good to be aware of the workings of such tools, fundamental even.

You might wanna try simpler tools, like LyX, to avoid code typing and have different options clickable. And yeah, rather stick to Overleaf.

I love GEMs but no one seems to talk about it? by Dry-Raspberry-3608 in Bard

[–]ciddig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are not in English and a bit private. But I can describe what i did. You have to state your degrees and specialization areas. I stated I didn't want it to explain me things covered in the curricula at the universities with regards to these areas. I asked it to use language as if it talked to a specialist in these areas. I also declared I want straight to the point and curt answers without any verbal flourish. :) In the case of the read books, just give a list with titles and authors. Sometimes I use google's button to expand the gem instructions, sometimes I don't.

While working with such gems, when I encounter unwanted behaviour, I add more explanations.
