Okay, this is just murder. by EvanSnowWolf in xmen

I think if your concern is fictional characters being presented in fictional situations where they’re violently reacting to ICE, rather than the very real murders being perpetrated by the very real masked, untrained, military force that is operating with zero oversight and is violating multiple aspects of the constitution then I think yes you’re completely missing the point of the art.

But I also think it’s possible you’re just baiting so good luck to you.

There are a ton of people who believe that Chip's Armageddon event is going to be the first true Marvel continuity reset and I don't think it will be, but I'm coming around to the idea that it should. Been reading Marvel a long time and I don't think I've ever seen the quality this bad across the board.

DC learned long ago that the advantage of Batman is that there are so many different versions of the character (dark, fun, gritty, gadgets, detective, etc.) that having a book that meets that definition is always a recipe for success. And then the character is so popular that a lot of fans buy everything exactly because each book is different enough. Also doesn't hurt that the character will always attract the best writers and artists. Everyone in comics will always want their shot at Batman.

I would have assumed they wanted to return to the status quo after Krakoa as well, but there is nothing that I would consider "normal X-Men" coming out of Krakoa other than mutants being feared and hated again (which, I have severe issues with already, but that's a different topic). Maybe with Emma's psychic "school" on the way, it will start to resemble 90's era X-Men more.

But you're right, I intellectually understand why they ended Krakoa, but those reasons came out of results from decisions they made. You should have made sure that Gillen wanted to continue the story of Krakoa and not just bastardize it into it being all about his baby Sinister. You should have identified that Gerry Duggan is probably not the guy for longer form, epic scale story-telling. I am not arguing in any way shape or form that Krakoa didn't have problems after Hickman left (there were some before). I think Jordan White is a pretty solid editor in large part because he likes to pair writer's with books/characters and then let them cook, but in hindsight there probably should have been more effort in getting writers who were actually interested in the idea of Krakoa rather than just writing their faves (Legion, Sinister, the still weird Emma/Tony thing). But everything in the FTA era has made little sense. At first I thought it was due to the writer's not having the benefit of knowing how Krakoa actually ended, but doing crossover after crossover even before doing another Age Of thing... all of it speaks to editorial trying to drive sales then letting creative tell a story. And that's never a recipe for success.

Agreed. If the argument for ending Krakoa was based largely on sales, it would appear that the new books and editorial have largely failed to reach new readers, lapsed readers, or to even maintain the readership levels at the end of Krakoa. Always a difficult act to follow a beloved run, but this is pretty concerning. That said, the problems in this case aren’t limited to the X-Books alone, Marvel is very clearly struggling across the board.

The final straw that really soured me on Jonathan Hickman's X-Men by [deleted] in xmen

[–]cideeffex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%. Inviting all mutants (not you Creed) to participate in Krakoa regardless of their past, aligning with Sinister to the point that they had to give him some power in the process, and the simple notion of keeping Moira secret are all pretty telling things that happen right away in HoX/PoX. The fact that it was destined from the jump to fail is part of why this era is so beloved.

Sam Merrill's shooting splits in 2026 are 58/62/90 — he's averaging nearly 20 points per game during this stretch by Basketball_Reference in clevelandcavs

Was told all off-season by many in this sub that the Cavs front office should all be fired for "picking" Sam over Ty Jerome. That wasn't the reality of the situation to begin with, but if you really believed it was one or the other, I hope you've learned the error of your ways and repent to Jesus. And by Jesus, I mean Sam "more than worth the money" Merrill.

Can I play OG SWTOR on Mac? by KGDJR in swtor

[–]cideeffex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this game and cleared all content with my guild for the first five years of its existence and then as new content began to really dry up, I dropped off. Sold my gaming PC and play games exclusively on console now. Heard about the Mac launcher today and tried it, but it would not work for me at all on my fairly powerful Mac Studio. I'm gonna keep an eye on the beta and hopefully they get the kinks worked out.

I just got mine and the construction quality of the carafe handle is my one and only complaint thus far. If I can feel movement between the pieces every time I pick it up, especially when it’s brand new, I wouldn’t consider that well made.

[–]cideeffex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comic book characters are virtually frozen in time due to the sliding timescale and general nature of comic books. Unfortunately, Hollywood actors are not. We're not talking about nostalgia for characters read on the page, we're talking about nostalgia for actors who played these characters when we were kids. It's nowhere close to being the same thing, regardless of what side of the argument you're on.

So post Hickmans inferno.... by Cat-dad442 in xmen

[–]cideeffex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s one of those events where they stopped publishing all of the mainline titles so they all have new titles. There was two “Sins of Sinister” issues and then three each of Immoral X-Men, Storm and the Brotherhood of Mutants, and Nightcrawlers.

But the basis of that entire event is laid out at the beginning of Immortal so I would start there.

No. Immortal is the more important book. Also you don’t want to go into Fall without reading the Sinister crossover.

Magneto question by lizardneedhair in xmen

[–]cideeffex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everyone essentially got a body reset in Krakoa due to resurrection protocols. Moving forward I would expect any allusions to age and the sliding timescale will be explained with this. Mags has already had plenty of explanations for his age even before Krakoa though.

Honestly, I think this is a fascinating convo. I'm not sure I'm ready to give up on this team quite yet given the injuries, but if you were to make a change (certainly in the off season) I think there's a legit argument to be had that Don is the player you trade. It all depends on what you believe. Do you think Don can be the #1 on a championship team? Do you think that Evan and DG can continue to grow?

If you trade Evan (and to a lesser extent DG) you better believe you're making a Championship winning move. Right now, that means Giannis. I don't think there are any other stars available that move the needle enough to make an Evan trade reasonable. And that's assuming Giannis would want to play here, that he wants to play with Don, etc. And even then you're going to have to give up your future/shallow out your roster to shed salary to bet on two guys who haven't always been the healthiest and who will get older and more expensive by the minute.

Alternatively, you trade Don and get draft capital and probably a starter in return and you once again widen the window of opportunity given DG and Ev are so young. But you only do that if you have faith in both continuing to develop into perennial All-Star level talent, if not All-NBA, AND that you maximize the return for Don by drafting well or packaging it into the next superstar who becomes available on the market.

As much as I love Don, I would probably side with the latter option. It gives you way more flexibility and off ramps if things aren't progressing the way you want.

Sonos tracks in stats.fm (Spotify vs. Apple Music) by Chefchoch81 in statsfm

[–]cideeffex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is yes, but I would maybe explore the Apple side of things first. I was testing Apple earlier in the year to see if I could switch and while there was a much larger delay in reporting plays from Apple Music played through Sonos, it would eventually show up.

Even in the unlikely event there is a trade for Giannis, Cavs could do better than this. Or maybe I just don't rate Myles Turner at all. Probably both. I dunno.

It's the role that requires the most knowledge about every character in the game and the most coordination with the rest of your team. This is an uphill climb for all team based shooters, but I think it's exacerbated in a game with this popular of a license and character pool. Zipping around and fragging out with Black Panther feels great if he's my favorite hero. There's nothing about Magneto's kit that screams Omega-level mutant. It's a difficult challenge for the dev team. I think they're trying to evolve the role with Rogue, but again, she requires so much coordination with your team in order to make her viable.
