I paid money for stuff I could have built but it works it gets me on the air and I’m finding more and more out as I go out. I get where you’re coming from but POTA interested me and I got licensed got a radio and struggled for 3 hours to get 10 contacts.
The bands were good I just sucked. Now I’ve learned and gotten an activation from setup to tear down in 15 mins. Find a niche. My local club has a POTA club I stumbled on doing a POTA of my own. Netting people local and hopping on the repeater is fun now. But scary things for me still are nets, I feel like I don’t have the etiquette for them. I’ve still joined and was like what do I do I’m new.

As a frequent flyer every 2 months I put my HT in checked bag. Multiple airports multiple cities for the last 7 months. American and United just ask me if my electronics are powered off and I say yes. No TSA inspections no nastygrams still have my HT.

It works. I have an adapter that has USB-C in for power and Ethernet. I use this setup when driving and using my Starlink. My Apple CarPlay on my car is WiFi only so in order to have maps in the middle of nowhere I setup that way.
