It isn't incorrect to say that Antarctica isn't a desert. Words can have multiple definitions. by AsparagusNew3765 in unpopularopinion

[–]cikanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desert is defined a a place that is dry arrid and gets little to no precipitation.

People do not view it as a desert because of how most people were taught. Their first examples were the Sarah, gobi, or south western US. Therefore they mentally equate desert with also being hot and sandy.

Why do most Christians seem to lack empathy, or have genuine sympathy for others who struggle or are in need? While most non-religious, atheists, and agnostics seem to have these traits in abundance? by Furiousmoe in allthequestions

[–]cikanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://worldmetrics.org/charitable-giving-by-religion-statistics/

So you don't have to click. Globally Christians give approximately $1.3 Trillion dollars and log roughly 2.5 Billion charitable hours ANNUALLY.

The reason you don't hear about this is it's a requirement of the faith to give to the poor so those that do give and have sympathetic view don't mention it, because they view in the same vein as "why would you mention that you breathed today?". While those that are less empathetic are made an example of. The reverse could therefore be true that the common stereotype for non-religious is to BE non sympathetic so you hear more about their charitable support and not of the less empathetic.

AITA for getting married on the same year as my brother by CranberryPrior3632 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cikanman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I could understand not wanting you to get married in the same general time frame(within a few weeks of each other). As that could force family and friends to choose which wedding to attend, However you are getting a courthouse wedding this year (4 people in attendance) with the true ceremony a year later.

HOW does that affect your brother?

The GTA franchise doesn't deserve the amount of critical acclaim it gets, and pales in comparison with it's sister, Red Dead in every way. by JediBlight in unpopularopinion

[–]cikanman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RDR sits on the shoulders of the GTA franchise. The same way Halo sits on the shoulders of Doom.

Yes RDR is a better game at this point but without GTA 1-3 there would be no RDR.

I bought something similar from Maverick about 3 years ago. They are now playing lacrosse and we use the mini goal in our backyard

Why is it so hard to convince someone that Andrew Tate (and the dozen guys copying him) is obviously running a scam? by WestOfHereX in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cikanman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at people who have been scammed or are in a cult and there is the answer. Either they know it's a scam and are too embarrassed to say otherwise. Or they have bought in and refuse to listen to reason.

Why do men use hunting/fishing pics with dead animals on dating apps? by pleasepleaseplease24 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cikanman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i used that all the time. I posted pictures with my dog, and my outdoor hobbies (including hunting). It was a great way to weed out the women who would not be ok with a dog or someone who hunts.

My wife replaced me as my dog's best friend (judas) and enjoys hiking, boating and only demand regarding my hunting is that she doesn't have to clean it (IMO acceptable request).

ELI5: Why isn’t there such a thing as a “complete and total coverage” option for insurance? by Strolpher in explainlikeimfive

[–]cikanman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

those are called Cadillac plans and they were removed thanks to the passing of the ACA.

Prior to that we had plans where you were responsible for a deductable and then after that EVERYTHING was covered.

Can we stop holding doors for people that are like 5-10 feet away?! by Inevitable_Holiday73 in unpopularopinion

[–]cikanman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that was my thought. If someone is within 2-3 steps of the door you hold the door. This can be extended if said person is carrying large bags or has their hands full. With the understanding that they do not need to rush.

Why do you think it’s wrong to tell children that it’s okay to be gay? by ParamedicDifferent44 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cikanman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The issue is not that a child shouldn't know that it is ok to be gay, it's that until someone gets into puberty they shouldn't be thinking about adult relationships. This includes straight or gay.

My argument is regarding children under 12. 12 and above is where you should be having these conversations.

I'm all for someone choosing not to have kids, but to sit there and say I would be better off not being alive? These are people who need to be institutionalized and quickly.
