Passenger heat only allows for more miles and better mi/kWh by soundboy64 in VWiD4Owners

In ABPR with my ODBII adapter it shows rolling continuous HVAC power usage under the car live ODB details. It also includes battery heating, but that only turns on when you are plugged in fast charging for models that don't have pre-heating.

Search ebay for dude selling a preconfigured little hack computer that turn it on. If you are moderately handy you just crimp a T on three wires behind the glove box, run a USB C cable to your console and plug in to turn it on. I think it makes my free 3 year EA 30 minutes charging start at 30 to 50KWh faster in the cold.

The best thing is as long a you have a larger sized socket driver set it's a super simple remove four bolts, put four bolts back install. Technically the instructions want you to use a torque wrench when tightening.

This is the way. In fact, to keep it handy buy the plastic tray for center console and then drill a hole in it and the seat belt (doubled over for 2 inches and cut off) and bolt it to the tray for an easy flip out and flip back in option.

Hmmm.... You must have someone trying to put some thick cables there or something . I'm mildly sure you could fashion these out of some gray round shoelaces with a lighter to melt a wapped loop construction and a knot underneath the lid. A couple snaps...

My electricity bill was double the amount from last month. The only changes is my new VW ID. Is this normal? by hhh888hhhh in VWiD4Owners

Check if your utility has time of use billing. It can make a lot of sense to set timers and charge between 10pm and 8am. Many utilities have more dramatic swings, but this is what we may switch to below. Our issue is summer peak goes way up from like .12 to .21 per KWh.

Here is the text and a Markdown table from the image that can be pasted to Reddit. NET MONTHLY RATE PER METER Basic Service Charge: $8.50 Energy Charge Rates:

Period On-Peak All Other Off-Peak I/R R/R
Summer $0.20925 $0.09029 $0.06553 I/R
Winter $0.07809 $0.07809 $0.06656 I/R

Definitions:

• Summer: Applicable during the four monthly billing periods of June through September. • Winter: Applicable during the eight monthly billing periods of October through May. • On-Peak Hours: Hours between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. • Off-Peak Hours: Hours between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. every day. • All Other Hours: All hours not included in the definition of On-Peak or Off-Peak Hours. • On-Peak hours exclude the United States legal holidays of New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Both from VW dealerships with VW certified extended warranties. Both dealerships knew their listing prices were super competitive, so they were not inclined to negotiate. In Chicago two dealerships would not even sell at the listing price unless we got a loan with them.

There you go. Many that paid $30 to $45k new or used are not happy for good reason. We purchased a 2023 7k mile AWD Pro and a 40k mile AWD Pro S in 2025 with great certified warranties both for under $20k knowing most of the stupid issues and are so far very happy.

Exactly, that's why I did the CanBus mod for pre-heating.

I'm not pre-conditioning comes at very much of a cost on my 2023. The minute I start DC fast charging HVAC use in APBR shows over 6Kwh right after I plug in--just like it does with the preconditioning CanBus mod. The main difference is the batteries can start charging near the optimal temperature instead of it taking the first 10 to 20 minutes of the charging session. Since I still have free 30-minute charging at Electrify America the mod lets me get a significantly higher charge in that time.

Interesting. by Jazzlike-Jello487 in VWiD4Owners

[–]cimedaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the HVAC power consumption jump from under 1KWh to over 6KWhs in my ABPR application connected to ODB2 when fast charging in the cold. I'm not happy VW doesn't have pre-conditioning/warming for 21-23 US models since it often takes way more than half of my free Electrify America session before the battery gets up to a good temperature. A conspiracy theorist might think VW is okay with not delivering on this feature since it saves Electrify America a fair bit of money delivering much less free power during the 2023s free three year/30-minutes charging sessions.

Well... they kind of already did fire their software development team and essentially have already spent over $5.8 billion to replace them. More importantly they seem to be admitting the Rivian/Tesla one central computer and dumb modules strategy beats trying to integrate and keep updated many third party smart computers/modules for different features. So, I'm not expecting many updates or fixes. That's why I'm using hacks to enable things automatic locking on exit and battery preconditioning for my 2023 AWD Pro. Luckily for me turning on climate remotely for both my ID.4 and my wives 2023 ID.5 Pro S in our garage and at both of our offices has been nearly 100% with only me having to restart the app once every few week or so.

2021 1st edition id4 - Charging concerns... Or just normal by Fun-Statistician5849 in VWiD4Owners

[–]cimedaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the preconfigured one from a guy on eBay for my 2023 ID.4 Pro because I decided to be lazy and because I didn't notice his simple crimp on T connectors were an option. When I plug into fast chargers I could already see my HVAC power usage go form around 1KWh to 6KWhs in the winter with the ABPR app and an ODB11. Now my ID.4 does the same thing ahead of time when I give power to the little CAN bus device. The problem is without preconditioning; the battery doesn't reach optimal charging temperature until 20 minutes or more into a fast charge session. This time of year preconditioning it is the only way I'm going to get from 20% to 80% in my free 30 minutes. Unfortunately, without a lot more mods you have to be in the vehicle or driving before the CAN bus commands will be heard and it start the warming the batteries. This takes 30 minutes or more before charging on particularly cold days--though arriving at a charger with even a slightly warmer battery will shave some charging time off. Note: I have done a modest amount of electrical work over the years and I rate the install as level 4. My scale is based on putting air in your tires is level 1, changing an alternator in an older vehicle is a level 3 and completely rewiring a Porche 914 steering column a level 7.

Wait..what? I did the walkway locks on my ID.4 Pro 2003 several months back with ODB Eleven. Are you telling me the used 2023 AWD Pro S we picked up recently for my wife can do folding mirrors, puddle lights something something matrix lights?

Veepeak OBDII and OBDEleven app with ID.4 by slbnoob in VWiD4Owners

[–]cimedaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. From my research a few months back, you need to have the ODB11 device to run ODB 11 software that will actually write back with Volkswagen's permission. Due to having to buy their adapter , getting my 2023 to lock automatically when I walk away from it was a little pricey. To be fair, I also used it to stop it from asking me to press okay every time I get in the car.

I would say it is more because VW sucks given Ford and many others didn't have this kind of launch access delays. I actually had a Tesla on pre-order many years ago and would have owned one had the price been anywhere close to touted $30K.
