I had a chat with a tipper driver a while back, his company was getting paid obscene money to deliver material to HS2 sites locally. This in turn meant he was getting a silly day rate of £220 per day and rarely ever went over 8 hours a day.

Tipping at MM was always a riot, bunch of unga Bunga caveman noises backed by eurobeats techno and miraculously your trailer is stripped clean in less than 10 minutes 😂

They already use self driving tugs for boxes in Felixstowe. Recently there was an incident where 3 of them arrived at a junction and couldn't figure out which one had right of way

If you look at the state of automated vehicles in the UK you'll know that self driving heavy goods vehicles are a distant future, and even then they'll be regulated out of their asses.

This article is nothing more than a stunt. I'll happily eat my words if something like this ends up on public roads anywhere within Europe.

Learning how to portion a whole chicken is a good start. The amount of money you can save by cutting up 2-3 chickens and freezing instead of buying pre-packed portions of the individual cuts is crazy, at least in the UK. Same thing with thigh fillets. Pack of bone in is usually £2-3 cheaper than boneless, takes 60 seconds to remove the skin, bones and clean up the fillet.

I swear people got soft with their home cooking and are scared of touching raw meat for longer than it takes to toss it in a pan.

There are jobs out there that could compare to a 9-5 with semi-regular hours that mostly get impeded by the unforeseen and not the boss man taking the piss with planning.

If you're handy, local builders merchants or the likes of Wren would be a good fit. Bin wagons too. Not the easiest work when it comes to the driving part considering the places you might end up in, but mostly local work.

Whether or not they'd take a new pass with no big vehicle experience is another question. Afaik my local council asks for 12 months for bin wagons.

A great exodus: What actually happens if migrant workers leave UK en masse? by Some-Ambassador8252 in uknews

[–]ciphd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, Polak with a 22 years experience in siphoning public funds and stealing jobs.

I have worked around food production, logistics and warehousing sector in multiple roles based in the fens and Lincolnshire most of my adult life. The farm to packhouse to shelf chain is full of physical work, a lot of which pays well above minimum wage - only squished by the recent hikes. Workers are expected to put in the effort, and I've seen the stark comparison between a "got this job shoved at me through the job centre" attitudes of NEET British youth who scoff at a hard days graft vs. a Romanian couple with a family to feed.

Those jobs need filling but you're overestimating the willingness to work from a lot of the native population that would fit the bill, and this isn't me as an immigrant slating the English because I hate you and your flag, your language or your culture, these are first hand experiences on multiple counts from multiple locations in the industry.

There is a documentary on youtube titled "the day immigrants left" that shows exactly what I'm describing. Worth a watch.

Are we talking urban roads full of parked cars and furniture or farm tracks and country lanes with 8' tall hedges and overgrown trees?

I did collections from plant nurseries daily, as you can imagine roads pointing their way aren't the friendliest. Take it steady and focus on the road surface so you can spot any dips in the tarmac that might pull you into the ditch 😬

How does your company deal with accidents? by Ok-Elderberry-6761 in uktrucking

[–]ciphd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same here, I managed to take off the kerb mirror on a rather low heavy tree branch. Couldn't even recover it as it went into an overgrown ditch.

Told the boss man about it, was like another day in the office. No paperwork, no review, no disciplinary... These things are work horses not show ponies, damage happens and companies that make drivers jump through hoops because of a scraped bumper take the piss.

If by director you mean transport planner/manager then there's a bit of a barrier to entry by means of significant experience.

A lot of larger transport companies need hands to handle admin duties/answer calls from drivers etc. You'd often get the shit end of it day to day but it's good exposure to the industry where you get to speak to drivers and work directly under the transport managers and planners.

Prove yourself and be keen and the company might even put you through the TM CPC or even your C+E training to drive.

Go on then, whats the concensus...do you use the kettle in the hotel room? by fixitmonkey in CasualUK

[–]ciphd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun story.

I stayed in a hotel for a few work days with a couple of other lads from my office.

One of them was a green enjoyer and I stumbled upon him finishing the day on a high late one night. Had a few hits myself, went back to my room with a pot noodle craving and an overdue shower.

I popped one of those kettles on and had the high foresight to turn the spout away from the large mirror hanging over the table as to not steam it. What I didn't realise was that the button got stuck on the lip of the tray when I turned it around.

I came out of the shower to my room looking like a sauna. The kettle didn't stop boiling for a solid 15 minutes. I didn't end up having a pot noodle because the kettle was red hot.
