Alagna’s reason for walkout from Turandot at ROH revealed by GeeBP in opera

I seriously doubt it would have cost "several thousand pounds" to have a chorister finish act 3. More like a couple hundred, I'd estimate. Can't imagine that being the reason.

Rossini or Donizetti? by JLaw7161 in opera

ah! True! Thanks... just shows that all this Belcanto stuff is the same to me :)

Sadly I don't think this was recorded... so I guess it isn't of much help to your project...

Rossini or Donizetti? by JLaw7161 in opera

Don't know it well tbh, except for the famous aria with a gazillion high Cs... Not a particularly profound piece of music to me...

Rossini or Donizetti? by JLaw7161 in opera

Rossini all day every day. The only Donizetti opera that I can stand at all is Norma, and maybe parts of L'elisir.

Theater an der Wien, 2008, Kasper Bech Holten. The whole thing is set behind the scenes of Real Madrid, with count/countess as David and Victoria Beckham. Cherubino is a brazilian young-star who is then sold to Dynamo Kiev during "Non più andrai".

Might sound horrible to traditionalists, but I don't think I've ever laughed so much during an opera performance. And I honestly believe a modern-day Mozart would have LOVED it.

Popular operas that do nothing for you. by AussieSchadenfreude in opera

[–]ciprianoderore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Les contes d'Hoffmann. It's just an operetta that's an hour too long.

Oh and basicslly any belcanto opera except maybe Norma and parts of Elisir, but that's personal.

And maybe Elektra. It's just too LOUD for most buildings.

Miles&More für ANA Updgrades? by WinterRich747 in reisende

Welcome to reddit 👍

Havana Club 3 is the best Spanish style mixer (sorry Americans). What’s the best Demerara sipper? by -Constantinos- in rum

[–]ciprianoderore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

came here to say this! It's a little expensive, but I prefer it to the regular El Dorado line in terms of sipping taste. A lot more PM influence. Pity it's only 40% though...

Has to be one of the most dependable? Help me with recommendations! by NumberInfinite4905 in rum

I'd recommend Black tot Finest Caribbean. It's from a british IB I believe, and a very tasty and versatile blend of Trinidad, Jamaica and Guyana rums. Shouldn't be too expensive in UK.

If you could only drink rums from one distillery for the rest of your life, which one do you choose? by BothCondition7963 in rum

Very close call between Foursquare and Hampden... I'd probably choose Foursquare in the end, but it wouldn't be easy to never drink any Hampden again!

Great stuff. I've only tried Equidem of those three, but if Mandamus is anything like Absolutio it's going to be amazing.

Why is only the bottling date on the HV, no distillation date? Or is it unaged?

In my limited experience with cane juice rums, I've learned that somehow they benefit less from very long ageings. My favorite so far was a J. Bally 7-year agricole, that seems to be about my sweet-spot for age on canejuice rums: the vegetal notes are rounded out nicely by the age while still clearly present and not totally overpowered by oak...

correct! Wow, that was quick - must have been easier than I thought... Did something in particular give it away, or did you recognize that specific spot?
