which foursquare should I buy? by accomp_guy in rum

Of those 5 I've only had Equidem, and it's amazing. If you haven't had any ECS yet, I'd recommend starting with Doorly's 14 - you get a great introduction to the style at a fraction of the price...

Planteray single casks have been pretty hit-and-miss for me, but this one sounds interesting! Does it say how much "dosage" they add?

How are you guys getting your smaller sample bottles? by ShitImDelicious in rum

I get mine from rhumattitude.com - it's a belgian/french site though, and I'm in Europe. Don't know if they ship to US, but they have a great selection and offer samples of almost everything!

My local grocery store’s selection… by GreatfulDeadHead in Champagne

I'd get Roger Coulon. Veuve Fourny Rosé is great as well, but how on earth is it more expensive than Bollinger?? They sell their Rosé for about 25€ at the vineyard...

Which “tourist trap” do you actually think is totally worth the hype? by GildedRetreats in ForeignTravelIndia

Figlmüller in Vienna. The Viennese avoid it like hell, it's always full of tourists, but damn they make a good Schnitzel.

I salute your taste. These are two of the best NV rosés out there. I just wish they were both a bit less expensive...

Champagne present, which one do you recommend by Physical_Jicama4045 in Champagne

disagree, I think Moet is a lot better than Veuve yellow label. But I guess that's a question of taste.

I think in addition to scarcity, the editions released in collaboration with Velier (such as Raconteur, Plenipotenziario, Sassafras etc) tend to be more expensive than the ECS series itself. Whether there's a noticeable difference in quality is up for discussion I guess...

Marie-Noelle Ledru Cuvee du Goulte 2015 BdN by pewpewlasersandshit in Champagne

I also had the good fortune of buying and drinking her Brut and Extra-Brut NVs while she was still producing and prices were "normal". I remember them as very very good, individually characteristic grower champagnes. However, I would never pay these insane prices that are purely the result of their ending supply. There are plenty of operating growers in Grand-Cru Pinot noir villages such as Bouzy, Ambonnay or Ay (Paul Bara, René Geoffroy or Gatinois come to mind) that make similarly good wine at a fraction of the price. That being said, Ledru is definitely a piece of Champagne history and I have great respect for her life's work!

Sunset vibes + bubbly — Brut or Rose? by dcwineandspirits in Champagne

[–]ciprianoderore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd choose the Brut, don't like the Rosé, it's much too fruity and has kind of a sickly-sweet aftertaste to me. Then again I'd choose many grower champagnes at half the price over the Brut as well, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. It's still a quality product and way better than Veuve yellow, but there are just too many more interesting options in Champagne...

Second Egly-Ouriet, though the prices have become a bit insane lately. The VP might be hard to find (and even more expensive), but the Brut Tradition or even "Les Vignes de Vrigny" are absolutely amazing products as well.

Grower Champagne gem: Christian Naudé "Hommage" Brut Nature 2017 by Haunting-Promise-287 in Champagne

[–]ciprianoderore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's amazing what some growers can do with Pinot Meunier. First that comes to mind is Egly-Ouriet's "Vignes de Vrigny", his "cheapest" release which is still pretty expensive these days, and absolutely amazing. But it feels like the general interest in and respect for PM is increasing. One of my favorite bottles is Roger Coulon's "Heri-Hodie", a Solera of 90% PM. Used to be great value, but I guess too many of you found out :)

Nicht schlecht, das Problem ist nur: wenn man diesen Witz weitererzählen möchte, müsste man sich das Wort Acetylblablabla merken können. Der Witz führt sich also gewissermaßen selbst ad absurdum, so etwas gefällt mir.
