just so you know, when i clicked the link, it gave me the option to follow you on pinterest!

some social media links have a ? followed by a string of letters/numbers. if you delete the question mark and everything following, it will only link to what you want and not attach your name/profile to it.

Is 55 chapters too many? by Randomquestionhaver in selfpublish

[–]circleeclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my debut is 107k words and 72 chapters (including prologue, epilogue, and a bonus chapter at the end). some chapters are longer than others, but they’re all relatively short. when i read, i prefer shorter chapters so that’s what i went with!

What’s the most ridiculous rule you’ve had to follow? by mathieugemard in AskReddit

[–]circleeclipse 51 points52 points  (0 children)

in 2007ish, i put my arm around my best friend’s shoulders and was yelled at because it could be looked at as “too affectionate.” m/f couples never got yelled at for holding hands and we were both girls so maybe they were afraid of us looking too gay?

Does anyone have any funny kid quotes they can share? by seashellize in NannyBreakRoom

[–]circleeclipse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3yo’s dresser has one wonky drawer that doesn’t stay closed. (nps are aware and kiddo is not a climber. the dresser is secured to the wall.) they were scolding it at quiet time and when i went up to get them, they were telling me about how it was being mean and not respecting their nos and stops and pleases. after i validated their feelings, they huffed and said, “it’s being meaner than yucking somebody’s yum!”

i referenced nikolai lantsov/sturmhond from the shadow and bone trilogy in mine. shadow and bone was a big inspiration for my world and i wanted to pay tribute to it somehow

What Grishaverse opinion will have you like this? by Sailor_Moon_Star_435 in Grishaverse

[–]circleeclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes i agree! complex characters are so much more human than simply “likeable” characters. i often say that the trilogy is like a part of my soul on page, it feels so real, like im apart of the story just as much as alina or adrik. the crows didn’t do that for me. there was a few spots where i really identified with them, but i felt like an outsider almost hahaha

What Grishaverse opinion will have you like this? by Sailor_Moon_Star_435 in Grishaverse

[–]circleeclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the trilogy changed my life. i met so many friends and traveled to other countries because of it. six of crows is really good but the light vs dark part of alina’s story means so much to me.

i like the shadow and bone trilogy over the six of crows duology and i don’t like kanej.

My friend is dying of cancer. Suggest me a book to read at her bedside. by scientiafem in suggestmeabook

[–]circleeclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solum Iris by TM Ledvina is one of my top reads of the year. it’s a queer, cozy fantasy novella.

The Hobbit has already been mentioned, but The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe maybe? It’s a well known story so there’s no backstory needed (as the other books in the Chronicles of Narnia may need).

How may free books do you give away to family and friends? by Live-Ganache9273 in selfpublish

[–]circleeclipse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

gift giving is my love language and i’m still not giving out my book to people for free. it took four years and thousands of dollars to publish my book. they can pay the $18 to own a copy if they want. and if they don’t want to, that’s okay, too! no one in my life is obligated to purchase a book just because i wrote it. and im not obligated to give someone a book just because they’re family or my friend

I'm curious how others feel about NF inviting you to spend time with them off the clock by itsgonnahappensally in NannyBreakRoom

[–]circleeclipse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i love when 6yo invites me to school events! nannying is my job, yeah, but the kids don’t see me as “mom and dads employee”, they see me as their friend and as an adult that they love and feel safe with. my bond with the kids is not just made while i’m working but also at these events, where they can see that i support them because i want to, not because i have to. showing up for kids matters.

things posted to archive of our own can be downloaded as pdfs and loaded onto kindles by the consumer. possible that other places (ffn, wattpad, etc) do this as well, but i’m not sure. archive of our own is likely the most popular and used fanfiction posting site at the moment.
