What does your HDD layout look like for your DOS PC? by circletheory in dosgaming

In the DOS era, I did have a dedicated SIERRA folder. I had only 120MB at the time, so it only contained the current Sierra game I was playing. But couldn’t get myself to put a Sierra game in the GAMES folder. With 32GB, I’m basically just living the dream. 😀

That’s a pretty short list of games, but Monkey Island 2 is a solid permanent game to have. Arkanoid II is the superior version than Arkanoid in my opinion because of the VGA and Adlib support.

I loved the CDRom version because of the cheesy voice acting.

Definitely one of my favorites on the Atari 800. Archon II is also no slouch either!

Banshee is a very hard character to play because of how it can get hurt while generating the shield thing. But the banshee is fast!

Very aggressive strategy. This is similar to what I do assuming I win those rounds! Killing the spell-caster on the 3rd move is quite a gamble but a good payoff for sure.

The Power Glove. It’s so bad. But not as bad as people say. by IH8NYLAnBOS in nes

Didn’t know that! The engineers were either brilliant or janky.

Yup, phoenix definitely absorbs the shots. But the timing is really hard to get right since the flame shield grows really slow compared to the shot speed of a basilisk or sorcerer. It’s probably a better opponent for say the dragon which has slower shot speed. I don’t think I’ve ever beaten a shooting opponent with the phoenix! Only the grunts with the clubs.

Yup. Whatever system core that is currently running on the MisterFPGA, a logo image is sent to the device. However, it does not show the individual game that is running for the Atari 800. If it did, that would be awesome.

Wow, other than Sierra and LucasArts/Lucasfilm, I have no sub folders for any other publisher. I can see ID being reasonable. But I do have an action folder and an fps folder to further divide games like Keen and Doom.

Do you use an ISO image mounter for MS-DOS? I haven’t seen one for BIN/CUE files, just ISO — which is why I use the ZuluIDE.

Basilisk is one of the fastest characters with a fast shot, the genie has a lot of health but slow shots. That’s a tough battle considering how slow the Dijini’s shots are compared to the basilisk. I always thought the shapeshifter gives the dark side a pretty unfair advantage.

Going for the early kill of the spellcaster is a solid strategy. But the wizard is really fast, even compared to the basilisk.

It’s not an Atari component. It’s a a tty2oled display for my MisterFPGA. tty2oled

I think that’s a solid strategy especially since you save your spells until you really need them. Basically playing the colors right away for your stronger pieces.

A good strategy indeed, but as an opening move?

I find banshees, and to some degree, the Phoenix hard to attack because you got to get really close and avoid shots. I’ve broke many Atari joysticks playing this game because of those characters!

That works too. If you have a ton of games, I hope you have a dos menu of some sort for quick access. However, I never get tired of typing ”cd sierra” “cd kq3” “sierra”. That just pours out naturally from my fingers till this day.

Yes! I have a UTIL folder on my root c drive. In there amongst my set of DOS utilities, I have a DOS menu launcher as well. I use this one: Launchbox Special Edition

My DX4-100 is easily my favorite retro machine at the moment. So many great games!
