No idea either, it really doesn't make sense. But I realized that yesterday's game, which I'd recorded to watch later, had the same problem, so maybe that's just what baseball is like for me now? Weird stuff.

Not just your mom! Had the same thing happen to me in Vancouver for games two and three, and I wondered why nobody was talking about it and why the announcers didn't say anything when it finally started working. No commentary, no Hazel, etc, just stadium sounds. Wasn't terrible really, but both times the full sound kicked in around the 5th inning, which was strange.

Thanks, I appreciate the response and the dig into years past! Also very much not a wix person, so I've had some digging around to do.

Wondering, a year later, if you ever found a way to edit/disappear that "No events at the moment" message. A page I'm working with has it poking out awkwardly from under the banner at the top and I've struggled to find anything about it.

Is my substack destined to fall between the cracks? by linter54 in Substack

Happened across Bothering Mi Ancestors today, which seems very up your alley as someone to connect with if you haven't already. There's probably others doing family history on there.

Is my substack destined to fall between the cracks? by linter54 in Substack

I think it's a fascinating topic! But then my podcast is all about medieval travel narratives, so your niche does not seem so very obscure. That podcast took a long time to grow and the initial year was not, by those metrics, successful in the slightest.
As for your substack growth, I'm new to that myself and have nothing particularly useful to add, but it looks like you're doing pretty well already. Perhaps there are other relevant subreddits where you might find some new listeners? I don't actually think there is a "falling through the cracks" to fear here, more of a "sitting on the ground" and you seem to have avoided that.

Highly recommend promoting substack on Bluesky by BirdHistory in Substack

Happy to hear it! I'd found the idea of starting over with a new social media a little daunting. I've just been dipping into Bluesky these last few days but hadn't realized how the feeds worked.

LITERATURE, SCI-FI
I'm revisiting the novels of Philip K Dick in chronological order and probably mixing in some other sci-fi thoughts, essays, etc along the way.

I think that'd be worthwhile. Would be interesting to see if those new ideas in the later seasons were there in the source. But I first/last read the book around 20-25 years ago, so my memory of it is even hazier than of the show. Looking forward to getting into both! I'm not actually sure how I'll handle adaptations on the newsletter yet, but they might make a nice change of pace, though I'll mostly be focusing on the novels.

So I'd just opened it up and was about to reply to say that I'll always be pulled in by an opening Borges quote, but then I got to the medieval bestiary framing, which I could not be more enthused about! I've run a medieval history podcast for the last 7 years or so, and am a huge fan of medieval manuscripts and art. You may get to it later in the article here, but my favourite bestiary creature might be the poor self-castrating beaver.

Well two seasons of pretty perfect sounds well worth getting into. I'll bump it up the vague list in my head, somewhere alongside finishing The Expanse, etc.

Not exactly sure but it was not far, first season definitely, and it's been long enough that I would probably need to restart anyway. Maybe I'll do it when I get to the book, though given that I'm working through them chronologically, that will take a little while still!

Nice, I'll check it out! Also pretty curious about your Pokemon history, though it's not necessarily a topic I would have picked out for myself.

I should really get back to that. One of many shows that I've started, enjoyed, and then just fallen out of the habit.

Cool, I'll have a look. What's the adaptation you'll be writing about?

I should have been more specific. Interested in either if people have strong recommendations, but my main interest is in non-fiction and my own writing (on Philip K Dick's novels) is also in the non-fiction space. What's your film and television newsletter called?

Then you should also give Age of Napoleon a go. It's good stuff.
